About the Timer

Start a timer in one click with a preset — 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, 25, 30 or 60 minutes — or type any duration up to 99 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds. Give it a label, run more timers alongside it, and pause, reset or add a minute at any time.

When a timer reaches zero, an alarm plays until you stop it, the browser tab shows Time’s up, and — if you allow it — a notification appears. Each timer remembers exactly when it ends, so it stays accurate in a background tab and carries on if you reload the page.

How to use it

  1. Click a preset to start a timer straight away, or enter hours, minutes and seconds and press Start timer.
  2. Optionally add a label (Tea, Pasta, Break) to tell several timers apart.
  3. Use Pause, +1 min and Reset on a timer while it runs. The time left is also shown in the browser tab.
  4. When the alarm rings, press Stop alarm (or Esc). Restart runs the same timer again.

Examples

A Pomodoro work session
Input

Three kitchen timers at once
Input
Pasta 9 min · Sauce 15 min · Bread 40 min
Result
Three cards count down side by side; one second in, the tab title starts with “08:59 Pasta +2”.
Minutes over 59 are fine
Input
0 hours · 90 minutes · 0 seconds
Result
1:30:00

Common uses

  • Cooking and baking, with a separate timer for each dish.
  • Focus sessions and breaks (Pomodoro), study blocks and exam practice.
  • Workouts, stretching and rest intervals.
  • Keeping meetings, presentations and classroom activities on time.

Presets for common tasks

  • 1, 3 and 5 minutes — short breaks, tea, quick exercises
  • 10 and 15 minutes — focused tasks, power naps, stretching
  • 25 minutes — one Pomodoro work interval; a 5-minute break usually follows
  • 30 and 60 minutes — study blocks, meetings, cooking and baking

For anything else, type the hours, minutes and seconds. Minutes and seconds can be larger than 59: 90 minutes becomes 1:30:00.

Accurate in the background

Each timer stores the moment it will finish, and the display is recalculated from your device’s clock. Browsers slow down hidden tabs to save battery, but that cannot make the timer drift: the alarm is scheduled for the finish time, and if it is delayed (for example while a laptop sleeps) the timer shows the right state as soon as the page wakes up.

Phones may pause pages that are in the background. For important timers, keep the page open and turn on Keep screen on where it is offered.

Why the alarm needs a click first

Browsers do not let websites play sound until you have interacted with the page. Starting a timer counts, so the alarm can play. If you reload the page while timers are running, click or tap anywhere once to allow the alarm again — the page reminds you.

Limitations

  • The alarm and notifications only work while this page is open in a tab. Closing the tab silences them; the timers are remembered and shown when you come back.
  • On iPhone, the ring/silent switch can mute website sounds. On iPhone and iPad, notifications only work for web apps added to the home screen.
  • Up to 12 timers can run at once, each up to 99:59:59.

Frequently asked questions

Will the alarm ring if the tab is in the background?

Yes, as long as the tab stays open: the timer is scheduled for its exact end time and the alarm repeats until you stop it. Phones may pause background pages, so keep the page open (and the screen on) for important timers.

Can I run more than one timer at the same time?

Yes, up to 12. Each has its own label, controls and progress bar, and the tab title shows the one that ends next.

Does the timer keep going if I reload or close the page?

Timers are saved in this browser with their end time. Reload the page and running timers carry on; timers that finished while the page was closed are shown as finished.

How do I stop the alarm?

Press Stop alarm on the timer, Stop all alarms above the timers, or the Esc key. +1 min silences it and gives you one more minute.

Can I change the alarm sound?

Yes. Under Alarm, choose Beep, Chime or Alert, set the volume and press Test sound. The sounds are generated by your browser — nothing is downloaded.
