About the Spain Net Salary Calculator (Sueldo neto: IRPF + Seguridad Social)
Turn a Spanish gross salary (salario bruto) into the pay that reaches your account each month. The calculator takes off your Social Security contributions, 6,5 % of your pay on a permanent contract, and works out the IRPF withholding rate (tipo de retención) the way an employer's payroll does it: the general procedure of the Reglamento del IRPF, from your yearly pay and the family details you give on form 145.
It shows your payslip (nómina) line by line, for a normal month and for an extra payment when you are paid 14 times a year, the withholding working from your yearly pay to the rate, your personal and family minimum, the year's net pay and what your job costs your employer. Nothing you type leaves your browser. Without a pass the page shows a free preview of your own result: your net pay a month and the first rows of each table, while every other figure stays hidden until you unlock it with a Pro pass.
How to use it
- Enter your gross salary for the year, with the extra payments, and say whether you are paid in 14 or 12 payments.
- Choose a permanent or fixed-term contract, and tick the box if a fixed-term contract lasts less than a year.
- Pick your family situation and the number of children, as on form 145 (modelo 145). Open “More about you” for age, disability, parents living with you, a pre-2013 home loan or work in Ceuta or Melilla.
- Read your net pay, the payslip, the withholding rate and how it is worked out.
- With a Pro pass, or after unlocking this result, copy the summary or download it as a CSV file; without one the page shows a free preview.
Examples
Social Security 162,50 € a month, withholding 16,42 %: net pay 1.628,50 € a month and 1.791,00 € in each extra payment, 23.124,00 € a year.
The work-income reduction and the 43 % limit bring the rate down to 8,87 %: net pay 1.410,51 € a month.
With yearly pay up to 35.200 €, the withholding is never more than 43 % of the pay above the no-withholding amount for your situation.
Withholding 3,06 % for situation 3: net pay 1.091,05 € a month and 1.183,64 € in each extra payment.
Withholding 17,61 %; net pay 2.404,49 € a month.
Contributions stop at the maximum base and the solidarity contribution starts above it: 334,77 € a month; withholding 28,92 %; net pay 4.403,90 € a month.
What comes off your salary
- Common contingencies (contingencias comunes): 4,7 % of your contribution base.
- Unemployment (desempleo): 1,55 % on a permanent contract, 1,6 % on a fixed-term one.
- Vocational training (formación profesional): 0,1 %.
- Intergenerational equity mechanism (MEI): 0,15 %.
- Solidarity contribution (cotización adicional de solidaridad): on monthly pay above the maximum base, 0,19 % up to 10 % above it, 0,21 % up to 50 % above and 0,24 % beyond.
- IRPF withholding (retención): the rate the calculator works out, on every payment.
The contribution base is the year's pay divided by 12, so two extra payments are spread over the twelve monthly payslips; it is never below your group's minimum (1.424,40 € a month for groups 4 to 11) nor above 5.101,20 € (Orden PJC/297/2026; Seguridad Social).
How the withholding rate is worked out
Your employer starts from your pay for the year and takes off your Social Security contributions, 2.000 € of other expenses (more if you moved for a job or have a disability) and, when your net work income is under 19.747,50 €, the reduction for work income. The scale of RIRPF art. 85 (19 % up to 12.450 €, then 24 %, 30 %, 37 %, 45 % and 47 % above 300.000 €) is applied to that base and to your personal and family minimum, and the difference is the year's withholding; divided by your pay, it is the rate, with two decimals (Reglamento del IRPF, arts. 80 to 86; Ley del IRPF).
Nothing is withheld up to 15.876 € a year in the general case, 17.197 € when your spouse earns little and 17.644 € for a single parent with one child; with pay up to 35.200 € the withholding is at most 43 % of the pay above that amount.
Your region and the yearly return
Withholding is the same in every region of the common regime: the regulation has one scale for all of them. Your region’s own income tax scale and deductions apply in the yearly return (declaración de la renta), which settles the difference between what was withheld and what you owe. The Basque Country and Navarre run their own income tax and are not covered here; work done in Ceuta or Melilla has its withholding rate reduced by 60 %.
Limitations
- One employer for the whole year. A second job, a start or end during the year, or a pay rise makes your employer regularise the rate during the year.
- The employer’s cost leaves out the occupational accident premium (AT/EP), which depends on the activity, and the extra contribution an employer pays when a fixed-term contract shorter than 30 days ends (LGSS art. 151).
- Not covered: income from earlier years, pensions to a spouse or child support ordered by a court, special employment relationships, the extra minimum for a child or parent with a disability (LIRPF art. 60.2), and the Basque Country and Navarre.
- Part-time pay uses your pay itself for contributions; Social Security’s hourly minimum bases are not applied.
- An estimate from the Reglamento del IRPF and the Social Security contribution rules, not tax advice: your payslip and your employer’s payroll decide.

Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Spain Net Salary Calculator (Sueldo neto: IRPF + Seguridad Social) shows your net pay a month in full, with the first rows of the payslip and of the withholding working and the rules that apply; every other figure is hidden. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment unless you choose automatic renewal, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
How much is 30.000 € gross a year net in Spain?
About 1.628,50 € a month in 14 payments (1.791,00 € in each extra payment) for a single person without children: 162,50 € of Social Security a month and 16,42 % withheld. Over the year that is 23.124,00 €.
Do I get more by being paid in 12 or in 14 payments?
The year’s net pay is the same: the contributions and the rate are worked out on the yearly pay. With 14 payments each month is smaller and the two extra payments, which carry no Social Security deduction, are bigger.
Why does my withholding rate change during the year?
Your employer must recalculate it when your pay or your family situation changes, for example after a pay rise or the birth of a child. The new rate makes up the difference over the rest of the year.
Does the region I live in change my net pay?
Not the withholding on your payslip, which follows one scale for the whole common regime. Your region’s scale applies in your yearly return, where you pay or get back the difference.
What does my job cost my employer?
Your gross pay plus the employer's contributions: 23,6 % for common contingencies, 5,5 % for unemployment on a permanent contract, 0,2 % for the wage guarantee fund, 0,6 % for training and 0,75 % for the MEI, plus the accident premium of the activity. For 30.000 € that is 39.195,00 € a year before the accident premium.
Is my salary sent anywhere?
No. Everything is worked out in your browser; nothing you enter is uploaded or stored on a server.
