About the Image Color Blindness Simulator
Inspect colour differences in screenshots, maps, charts and photographs with protan, deutan and tritan simulations or a grayscale achromatopsia approximation. Compare the original and simulation side by side or in a split image. The free preview is marked and reduced; a Pro pass opens the complete simulated PNG and a report of changed pixels and mean RGB channel change. This is a design aid, not a vision test or a diagnosis.
How to use it
- Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image from your device.
- Select the colour-vision type and severity. Recommended mode uses Machado for intermediate severities and Brettel for full dichromacy.
- Choose side-by-side or split comparison. Use the split position slider to reveal the original.
- Generate the simulation, then download the PNG or copy the simulation report with a pass.
Examples
Chart screenshot, deutan, 100% severity
A simulated view to compare with the original. Add labels or distinct shapes where series are difficult to tell apart.
Models and colour handling
The simulation decodes sRGB into linear light before applying the matrices and then encodes it back to sRGB. Intermediate Machado matrices are interpolated from the research authors’ published tables. Full dichromacy uses the two-plane Brettel projection; Viénot is available for protan and deutan, but not tritan. The implementation coefficients are documented by DaltonLens. The grayscale approximation uses linear-light luminance and does not model all aspects of achromatopsia.
Limitations
- A simulation cannot reproduce every person’s visual experience, display calibration or viewing condition. It does not certify accessibility.
- Changed-pixel percentage and mean absolute RGB channel change describe pixel changes; they are not perceptual scores or measures of a person’s vision.
- Do not rely on colour alone: add labels, shapes, patterns and sufficient contrast.
- Animated files use one decoded frame. Metadata is not copied. Inputs are limited to 16 megapixels to bound memory use; use a smaller image if this device cannot process it.

Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Image Color Blindness Simulator shows a reduced, watermarked simulation and its changed-pixel percentage; the image and complete simulation report open after unlock. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
Which model should I choose?
Recommended selects Machado for partial severity and Brettel for full dichromacy. Viénot provides an alternative for protanopia and deuteranopia. Comparing models can help reveal where a design depends heavily on colour.
Is this a colour-vision test?
No. It transforms an image to support design review. For concerns about your vision, ask an eye-care professional.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Image decoding, colour transforms and PNG exports all happen in your browser.
