Check an IFSC or MICR code
Find a branch’s IFSC
Branch list: RBI’s lists of IFSCs for NEFT and RTGS, compiled in the razorpay/ifsc dataset v2.0.62 — 1,83,214 branches, searched on this device.
Results are estimates for general information and planning, not financial advice. Banks and institutions may calculate differently (rounding, fees, rate changes). Confirm figures with your lender or a qualified adviser before deciding.
About the IFSC Code Finder & Validator
Look up the IFSC and MICR code of any bank branch in India, or check that an IFSC you were given is real before you send money. Type an IFSC to see the bank, branch, full address, MICR code and whether the branch is listed for NEFT and RTGS; type the 9-digit MICR code from a cheque to find its branch; or pick a bank, state and district — or search by area — to find the code you need.
The list has 1,83,214 branches under 260 bank codes — including over a thousand smaller banks that use a larger bank’s codes — from RBI’s lists of IFSCs for NEFT and RTGS as compiled in the open razorpay/ifsc dataset (release v2.0.62). It is searched in your browser: the branch list is downloaded from this site in parts, and what you type is never sent anywhere.
How to use it
- To check a code, type or paste the IFSC (for example SBIN0000691) or the 9-digit MICR code. The result appears as soon as the code is complete.
- To find a code, type the bank’s name — or a short form such as SBI, PNB or BoB — and pick it from the list.
- Choose the state and district to list every branch there, or type an area, street or branch name in Search this bank’s branches.
- Use Copy next to the IFSC or MICR, Copy details for the whole branch, or Download CSV for the list.
Examples
SBIN0000691
State Bank of India · NEW DELHI MAIN BRANCH · MICR 110002087 · NEFT ✓ RTGS ✓
The address is shown as the bank lists it: "11SANSAD MARG, NEW DELHI 110 001".
SBINO000691
Read as SBIN0000691 — the fifth character of every IFSC is the digit 0.
110002087
State Bank of India, New Delhi Main Branch (IFSC SBIN0000691)
Bank: Canara Bank · State: Karnataka · District: Udupi
The 87 Canara Bank branches listed under Udupi, each with its IFSC, MICR and address
Banks spell districts differently, so a district can appear more than once (here also “UDUPI DIST”) — search by name to catch every spelling.
Common uses
- Adding a beneficiary for NEFT, RTGS or IMPS and checking the IFSC first.
- Finding the IFSC of your own branch for a salary account, refund or KYC form.
- Identifying the bank and branch of a cheque from its MICR code.
- Getting the full address of a bank branch for a letter or a visit.
What an IFSC is
The Indian Financial System Code identifies a bank branch in NEFT and RTGS. RBI describes it as "an alpha-numeric code that uniquely identifies a bank-branch participating in the NEFT system": 11 characters, the first 4 letters representing the bank, the fifth always 0 (zero), and the last 6 characters representing the branch. RBI has also asked banks to print each branch’s IFSC on its cheques (RBI FAQs on NEFT).
So SBIN0000691 is State Bank of India (SBIN), branch 000691. Some co-operative banks do not have their own bank code and use a larger bank’s codes — their branches appear here under the co-operative bank’s own name.
MICR codes
The 9-digit MICR code printed at the bottom of a cheque identifies the branch for cheque clearing. In RBI’s lists the middle three digits identify the bank — 002 for State Bank of India, 024 for Punjab National Bank, 240 for HDFC Bank — and the first three usually match the first three digits of the branch’s PIN code. Not every branch has a MICR code in the lists.
NEFT, RTGS and UPI status
- NEFT and RTGS show whether the branch appears in RBI’s list of branches for that system.
- Bank on UPI shows whether the bank is listed as live on UPI (from NPCI’s list, as compiled in the dataset) — it is a bank-wide fact, not a branch one. It is not shown for co-operative banks that use another bank’s codes, because the list gives the status of that other bank, not theirs.
- IMPS is not shown: there is no published branch-wise list for it, so the dataset cannot say.
If a branch is "not listed" for a system, ask the bank before relying on it.
Where the data comes from
RBI publishes bank-wise lists of IFSCs for NEFT and RTGS. The open razorpay/ifsc project (MIT licence) combines them into one dataset with bank names and NPCI’s UPI list, and makes a new release every few weeks; this page uses release v2.0.62 (release notes), with a few misspelt state names corrected. Branches opened, closed, renamed or merged after RBI’s lists were taken may be missing — for a large transfer, confirm the IFSC with the bank or the payee.
Limitations
- The list is a copy of RBI’s lists from a razorpay/ifsc release. A new branch, or a code changed after a merger, may be missing until the next update.
- Addresses, phone numbers and district names are shown as the banks report them to RBI; spellings vary and some are incomplete.
- An IFSC identifies a branch, not an account: checking it does not prove that an account exists or who holds it.
- Some codes in the list are for a bank’s central or IMPS processing office rather than a branch you can visit.
Privacy
Everything happens in your browser. What you enter or open here is not uploaded or stored by MySmartCoPilot. Downloads the branch list from this site in small parts as you search (one part per code you check, or the chosen bank’s branches). What you type is matched on your device and never sent.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the IFSC code of my bank branch?
It is printed on your cheque leaves and usually in the passbook and net banking. Here, choose your bank, then the state and district, or search for the branch or area name — the IFSC is shown for every branch, with a Copy button.
How can I check whether an IFSC is correct?
Type it in Check an IFSC or MICR code. The format is checked first (11 characters: 4 letters, the digit 0, then 6 letters or digits), then the code is looked up in RBI’s lists, and the bank and branch are shown so you can confirm they are the payee’s.
Is the fifth character of an IFSC a zero or the letter O?
Always the digit zero. RBI’s FAQs say "the 5th character is 0 (zero)". If you type the letter O there, the tool reads it as 0 and tells you so.
Is the IFSC the same for every branch of a bank?
No. The first four letters are the same for the whole bank (SBIN for State Bank of India), but the last six characters identify the branch, so each branch has its own IFSC.
What is the difference between IFSC and MICR?
The IFSC (11 characters) routes electronic payments such as NEFT and RTGS to a branch; the MICR code (9 digits) identifies the branch for cheque clearing and is printed in magnetic ink on cheques. This tool shows both and can look up a branch from either.
Why is an IFSC from my old cheque book not found?
Either it is mistyped, or the branch was closed, moved or renamed — or the bank merged into another one and the codes changed. Ask the bank for the current IFSC before sending money.
