About the Ad Revenue & RPM Calculator

For publishers: enter your page views, how many ad units a page shows, the share of ad requests that are filled (your report calls it coverage) and the rate you are paid, and the calculator estimates what your display ads earn, with every RPM and a day, week, month and year. The rate can be an impression RPM (eCPM), a page RPM, or a viewable CPM paid on viewable impressions only; an optional partner’s share gives what is left after an ad partner’s cut.

There is no built-in “typical” rate: RPMs differ too much by country, topic, device and season for any average to tell you what your pages earn, so the calculator waits for the rate from your own report. Already have a report? Switch to Work out RPM and enter its earnings, page views and ad impressions for the page RPM, the impression RPM and what one page view earns.

Without a pass, you see a free preview: the estimated earnings per month (or the RPM of your report) in full, with the first rows of the projection table, a day and a week; the year, the other RPMs, the partner’s share and the rest of the figures are hidden. All of them, Copy result and the CSV unlock with a Pro pass.

How to use it

  1. Choose Estimate earnings (traffic and a rate in, earnings out) or Work out RPM (a report in, its RPMs out), and your currency.
  2. Estimate: enter the page views and whether they are per day, per month or per year, the average number of ad units per page, and the coverage from your report (leave it empty to count every request as filled).
  3. Pick what your rate is per 1,000 of — impressions, page views or viewable impressions (then add the viewability) — and enter the rate from your ad network’s report. Add a partner’s share if a partner keeps a cut.
  4. Read the estimated earnings per month, the chain from page views to earnings, every RPM and the projection for a day, a week, a month and a year.
  5. Work out RPM: enter the estimated earnings, the page views and the ad impressions of one report, and its length in days for the projection. With a pass, or after unlocking this result, copy the figures or download the projection as CSV.

Common uses

  • Estimating what a site would earn from display ads before you apply to an ad network or add more ad units.
  • Turning a monthly report into page RPM and impression RPM, so months, sites and ad networks can be compared.
  • Seeing what a traffic goal is worth: the same page RPM at twice the page views.
  • Checking the cut of an ad partner: earnings before and after its share.

The formulas

  • Ad requests = page views × ad units per page. AdSense: “If you have 3 ad units on a page, you’ll generate 3 ad requests”, and a page view is counted once “regardless of the number of ads displayed on that page” (Coverage, Page view).
  • Impressions = ad requests × coverage, where “Coverage = (Ad requests that returned ads / total ad requests) * 100”; an impression is counted for each ad request where at least one ad has begun to download (Impressions).
  • Earnings = impressions × impression RPM ÷ 1,000 — or page views × page RPM ÷ 1,000, or viewable impressions × viewable CPM ÷ 1,000.
  • Page RPM = “(Estimated earnings / Number of page views) * 1000” and Impression RPM = “(Estimated earnings / Impressions) * 1000” (Page RPM, Impression RPM). So page RPM = impression RPM × impressions per page view.
  • Viewable impressions = impressions × viewability, the share of measurable impressions that were viewable (Active View Viewable).
  • A month is a twelfth of a year of 365 days (30.42 days).

Why there is no typical rate

An RPM depends on who visits (their country and device), what the page is about, how many ads it shows and where, the season, and how much advertisers bid that week. An average across other sites can be far from yours in either direction, and a calculator that fills one in quietly makes its estimate look more certain than it is. So this one uses only the rate you enter: take it from your ad network’s report for the same kind of traffic — or, for a new site, enter the rate an offer quotes you and check it against your first month.

Estimated earnings are not payments

Google AdSense says that “RPM doesn’t represent how much you’ve actually earned” (RPM): it is worked out from estimated earnings, and earnings can still be adjusted — for example, “publishers aren’t paid for clicks that are discovered to be invalid” (Adjustments to earnings). Use the estimate to compare and plan, and your network’s payment reports for what you receive.

Limitations

  • An estimate is a straight line: the same rate on every page view of every day. Real RPMs change with the season, the traffic mix and the auctions.
  • Ad units, coverage and viewability are averages: pages with more ads, or fewer filled requests, earn differently.
  • Ad blockers, consent choices and invalid-traffic adjustments lower what is counted and paid; use figures from the same report so they are already included.
  • Amounts are in the currency you choose and are not converted. A planning aid, not financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, Ad Revenue & RPM Calculator shows the estimated earnings per month (or the RPM of your report) in full, with the first rows of the projection table; every other figure is hidden. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

How do I calculate page RPM?

Divide the estimated earnings by the page views and multiply by 1,000. AdSense’s own example: $0.15 from 25 page views is ($0.15 ÷ 25) × 1,000 = $6.00. Use Work out RPM to do it for a whole report.

What is the difference between page RPM and impression RPM?

Both are earnings per 1,000, but page RPM counts page views and impression RPM counts ad impressions. A page with three ad units that are all filled makes three impressions per page view, so its page RPM is three times its impression RPM.

How much will my website earn from AdSense?

Multiply your page views by your page RPM and divide by 1,000: 50,000 page views a month at a page RPM of 5.40 earn 270 a month. Your RPM comes from your own report: it varies too much between sites, countries and topics for anyone to tell you yours in advance.

What is coverage, and what should I enter?

Coverage is the share of ad requests that returned an ad. A page with three ad units makes three ad requests; if two show ads, coverage is 66.67%. Copy it from your report, or leave the field empty to count every request as filled.

Is eCPM the same as impression RPM?

Yes, for publishers: both are earnings ÷ impressions × 1,000. Advertisers use CPM for what they pay; the CPM calculator works out CPM, eCPM and cost per click from either side.

Why does the estimate change between a day, a month and a year?

Only because of the number of days: the projection assumes the same traffic and rate every day, with a year of 365 days and a month of a twelfth of that. Seasonal traffic and RPMs make real months differ.
