About the Ad Character Counter (All Platforms)
Type your ad once — headlines, descriptions, the primary text or post, display paths and a business or account name — and see it checked against the text fields of every major ad platform: Google Ads responsive search ads and Performance Max, Microsoft Advertising, Meta’s Facebook and Instagram Feed ads, LinkedIn single image ads, X posts, Pinterest Pins, TikTok In-Feed ads and Google Business Profile posts. Each field shows its length against that platform’s limit, counted the way the platform counts, with Fits, Check or Over.
Where a line is too long, you see the part that fits and the part that would be cut. The counter knows each platform’s rules: Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters count double on Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising, emoji count double on Microsoft Advertising and X, links count 23 on X, and Meta’s numbers are recommendations rather than limits. Add your own limits for anything else.
Without a pass you see a free preview: the verdict for every platform, with the first half of each platform’s fields. Every field, Copy summary and the CSV unlock with a Pro pass.
How to use it
- Type or paste your ad: one headline per line in Headlines, one description per line in Descriptions, and the post or primary text in Primary text or post. Add display paths and a business or account name where the format has them.
- Untick the platforms you don’t advertise on. Each platform shows Fits, Check or Over, and each field its length against the limit.
- Where a line is too long, the counter marks the part that would be cut: shorten it until it fits.
- Add a custom limit for a field or platform the list doesn’t cover, such as your own house style.
- With a pass, or after unlocking this result, Copy summary or Download CSV with every field’s length.

Common uses
- Write one set of ad copy and check it for every platform of a campaign before you build the ads.
- See which headline breaks the Google Ads or Performance Max limit, and by how much.
- Check that Chinese, Japanese or Korean copy still fits once its characters count double.
- Keep house-style limits next to the platforms’ own, as custom limits.
The limits this counter applies
- Google Ads, responsive search ads: 3–15 headlines of up to 30 characters, 2–4 descriptions of up to 90, two paths of up to 15 (About responsive search ads).
- Google Ads, Performance Max: 3–15 headlines of 30 (at least one of 15 or less), 1–5 long headlines of 90, 2–5 descriptions of 90, a business name of 25 and display paths of 15 (Performance Max specs).
- Microsoft Advertising, responsive search ads: headlines of 30, descriptions of 90 and paths of 15; Path 2 only with Path 1, no slash in a path, and a space shown as an underscore (ResponsiveSearchAd).
- Meta: Facebook Feed image ads 50–150 characters of primary text and a headline of 27; Instagram Feed image ads 125 and 40, with up to 30 hashtags. These are Meta’s text recommendations, not limits (Facebook Feed, Instagram Feed).
- LinkedIn, single image ads: introductory text up to 3,000 characters (150 avoids truncation, up to 10 emojis), headline 200 (70), description 300 (100) (Single image ads specifications).
- X: 280, with every link counted as 23 and emoji and Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters as 2 (Counting characters).
- Pinterest: titles up to 100 characters, of which feeds may show the first 40 (30 in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and other double-byte languages); descriptions up to 800 (Review ad specs).
- TikTok, In-Feed ads: an account name of 20 characters, or 10 in Chinese, Japanese or Korean; captions of non-Spark ads show no clickable links, @ symbols or hashtags (TikTok Auction In-Feed Ads).
- Google Business Profile posts: the help page gives no length limit; a post with a phone number in its text may be rejected unless the number can be verified as the business’s (Create & manage posts).
How the platforms count
Google Ads counts each Chinese, Japanese or Korean character as 2. Microsoft Advertising counts those and emoji as 2. X counts every link as 23, and emoji and Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters as 2. For the platforms that publish no counting rule, the counter counts characters as you see them: an accented letter, a flag or an emoji with a skin tone is one. Each field is counted by its own platform’s rule, so one line can fit one platform and not another.
Limitations
- Limits are the ones on each platform’s spec page; platforms change them, and some placements cut text sooner.
- Meta’s numbers are recommendations, so longer text is marked Check, not Over.
- TikTok captions and Google Business Profile posts have no published length limit: the counter shows their length without a verdict, and a custom limit adds one.
- Ad review is more than length: platforms also check wording, claims, capitals and landing pages, which this tool doesn’t.
- MySmartCoPilot is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google, Microsoft, Meta, LinkedIn, X, Pinterest or TikTok; they are named only to say whose published ad text limits the counter uses.

Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Ad Character Counter (All Platforms) shows the verdict for every platform, with the first half of each platform’s fields: their lengths, what fits and where the text is cut. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment unless you choose automatic renewal, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
How long can a Google Ads headline be?
30 characters, a description 90 and each display path 15, in responsive search ads and Performance Max alike; Performance Max also takes long headlines of 90 and a business name of 25. Each Chinese, Japanese or Korean character counts as 2.
Are Meta’s ad text lengths limits?
No. The Meta Ads Guide lists them as text recommendations: 50–150 characters of primary text and a headline of 27 for Facebook Feed image ads, 125 and 40 for Instagram Feed. So this counter shows Check, not Over, when text is longer, and marks where the recommended length ends.
Why does an emoji count as 2?
Because two platforms say so: Microsoft Advertising counts emoji as double-width characters, like Chinese, Japanese and Korean ones, and X counts every emoji as 2, whatever it is made of. For the other platforms the counter counts an emoji as one character, the way you see it.
Does TikTok publish a character limit for ad text?
Not on its In-Feed ads spec page, which gives the account name’s limit (20 characters, or 10 in Chinese, Japanese or Korean) and says non-Spark captions support no clickable links, @ symbols or hashtags. The counter shows the caption’s length and flags those; add a custom limit if you work to one.
Is my ad copy sent anywhere?
No. It is counted in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to MySmartCoPilot or to an ad platform.
