About Woven Chapel: Suit Garden

Woven Chapel: Suit Garden is a solo card game set on a travelling apothecary's wagon, drawn up beside an old chapel at dusk. A short deck, Ace to Seven in four suits, is stacked on a patchwork quilt in two hills of crates: two, four and six crates, over a shared row of seven. A crate can be opened only when nothing lies on it, and the card inside is planted in its herb's pot.

Each suit is a herb with a clay pot of its own, planted from the Ace up: sage for spades, poppies for hearts, marigolds for diamonds and lavender for clubs. Every card pushes its herb up another leaf, and the Seven makes it flower. The deal is won when all four pots are in flower. Three drawstring pouches hold a card each, and the seed tin turns over one card at a time onto the scale pan and can be turned back twice.

Clearing a shelf of crates turns the loom of values: every suit moves up a step, and the dearest herb becomes the cheapest, so the order you empty the hills in changes what each plant is worth. Above the crates a drying beam hangs with bundles of herbs that sway, and a lantern flickers at its end. When the last herb flowers the lantern flares, fireflies rise from the pots and wind chimes ring through the wagon.

Every deal is checked by a solving player before you see it, so it can always be won, and its par shows what a sharp gardener can reach. Tonight's rule changes one thing about the wagon. A deal saves where you leave it, in this browser only; nothing is uploaded.

How to play

  1. Open an uncovered crate by tapping it, or dragging it to its herb's pot, when it is the next card of that suit: the Ace first, then the Two, and so on up to the Seven.
  2. Every card planted grows its herb a leaf taller. The Seven makes it flower. Flower all four herbs to win.
  3. Hold a card aside in a pouch to reach the one beneath it: drag it there, or tap it and then the pouch. It can be planted from there later.
  4. Draw from the seed tin when nothing can be planted. Its cards go onto the scale pan, and the pan can be turned back into the tin twice.
  5. Clearing a shelf moves every suit up a step in value, so the dearest herb passes to another suit. Press H or the Hint button for a good move, and U or the Undo button to take a move back.

Frequently asked questions

How do I grow a herb?

Plant its cards in order from the Ace up to the Seven. Each card adds a leaf, and the Seven makes the herb flower.

What do the pouches do?

Each holds one card aside so you can reach the card beneath it. A card in a pouch can still be planted whenever it is the next one for its herb.

What does clearing a shelf do?

It moves every suit up a step in value, so the dearest herb becomes the cheapest. The values change the points a card scores, not what you can plant.

Can every deal be won?

With "Winnable deals only" (the default, and always for today's challenge) a solving player has won the deal before you see it. Choose "Any shuffle" in the settings for the luck of the draw.

Does it save my game?

Yes, in this browser only. Your unfinished deal, best scores and badges are never uploaded.
