About Woven Chapel: Fortune Lane

Woven Chapel: Fortune Lane is a solo card game set in the forgotten royal archive of a chapel, a long stone hall lit by the moon. A full deck lies on a crimson runner in a diamond of five shelves of three, four, five, four and three cards. The lowest card of a shelf is read onto the reading stand when it is one rank above or below the card on it, with the Ace and the King side by side. Two book rests hold a card aside, and the document box holds thirteen more to draw.

A lane is five deals, and the lane is a banner hanging on the archive's old loom, five bare panels wide. Before each deal you take one of two rule cards that change something about the hall, such as a deeper box or a spare rest. Clear the deal and its panel is woven, a picture in gold thread rising from the foot: a crown, a tower, a stag, a ship and a sun. Fail to clear it and the panel is left frayed. The points of every deal are added down the lane.

Clearing a shelf turns every suit up a step in value, and four inkwells before the loom show what each suit is worth, with a dot of gold for every step. When the fifth deal ends, gold sweeps across the banner. Weave four panels or more and the banner is whole, with a gold edge, horns and a bell, and the hall fills with falling gold.

Every deal is checked by a solving player before you see it, so each one can be cleared. Only score counts here: nothing else is ever on the line. Your lane and best scores are saved in this browser, and nothing is uploaded.

How to play

  1. Before each deal, take one of the two rule cards on offer. Its rule applies to that deal only, and a card you have taken does not come back down the lane.
  2. Tap the lowest card of a shelf, or drag it to the reading stand, when it is one rank above or below the card on top. The Ace and the King count as neighbours.
  3. Hold a card aside on a book rest to reach the one beneath it, and draw from the document box when nothing fits. It holds thirteen cards.
  4. Clear all five shelves of a deal to weave its panel. Clearing a shelf moves every suit up a step in value, so the dearest suit changes.
  5. Weave four panels or more across the lane and the banner is whole. Press H or the Hint button for a good move, and U or the Undo button to take a move back.

Frequently asked questions

What is a lane?

Five deals played one after another. Before each you take one of two rule cards, and the points of every deal are added together down the lane.

What do the banner's panels mean?

Each panel is one deal of the lane. A cleared deal weaves its panel with a picture in gold thread; a deal that ends unfinished leaves it frayed; the next panel has a bright edge.

Is any of it for real?

No. It is a score only. The game never asks for anything in return for a deal or a rule card, and nothing is gained or lost beyond points.

Can every deal be cleared?

Each deal is checked by a solving player before you see it, whichever rule card you took. Choose "Any shuffle" in the settings for the luck of the draw.

Does it save my game?

Yes, in this browser only. Your lane in progress, best scores and badges are never uploaded.
