About Static Pulse: Score After Dark

Static Pulse: Score After Dark is a night score chase in a neon parcel depot seen from above. You work the night shift as Volt, a round parcel bot with a lime rim, and Volt gets about in two ways: rolling on the deck or hovering just above it on four little fans.

Rolling is quick and grippy, and it is the only way to pick a parcel up. Hovering is slower and drifts, but it floats over everything on the floor. The depot works around you in two layers, and each hazard shows which one it belongs to before it can hurt. Floor hazards are orange and striped: crusher plates, scanner sweeps and conveyor bars that only catch a rolling Volt. Air hazards are cyan, dashed and cast a shadow: crane hooks, drone lines and pulse rings that only catch a hovering one. Switch at the right moment and the hazard passes harmlessly; switch just before it would have caught you and that is a clean switch, which scores.

Pick up a parcel, carry it to the lit chute and keep the deliveries coming: each one in a row adds to the Pulse chain and the multiplier climbs from ×1 to ×8. Every forty seconds the depot’s power surges and the whole floor goes live. Hover through it to soak up static, and the chute turns gold for a few seconds so every delivery counts triple. Three strikes end the shift, and dawn ends it at four minutes. Each night draws one rule, the daily shift is the same depot for everyone that day, and your best scores, the records for every rule and your badges stay in this browser. Pace and Assist are in the settings.

How to play

  1. Move with the arrow keys, WASD, a stick or the on-screen stick. Space, Shift, Ⓐ or the Switch button switches between Roll and Hover.
  2. Rolling is quick and picks parcels up. Hovering is slower and drifts, and floats over the floor.
  3. Orange striped hazards are on the floor and hurt only a rolling Volt. Cyan dashed hazards cast a shadow and hurt only a hovering Volt.
  4. Carry each parcel to the lit chute. Deliveries in a row and clean switches build the Pulse chain and the multiplier.
  5. When the power surges, hover: the whole floor goes live. Soaking up static turns the chute gold for triple deliveries.

Controls

  • Arrow keys, WASD, left stick, D-pad or the on-screen stick — move
  • Space, Shift, E, Ⓐ or the Switch button — switch Roll and Hover

Frequently asked questions

How do I tell floor hazards from air hazards?

Floor hazards are orange with diagonal stripes and sit flat on the deck. Air hazards are cyan with a dashed outline and cast a dark shadow on the deck. With Dim the safe layer on, the ones that cannot hurt you in your current mode are drawn fainter.

What is a clean switch?

Switching modes when a hazard of the layer you are leaving would have caught you within about half a second. It scores and keeps the multiplier climbing, so the best players switch late on purpose.

How does the power surge work?

An alarm sounds and the deck starts to glow; then the whole floor is live for a few seconds. A rolling Volt takes a strike. A hovering Volt soaks up static for points, and afterwards the chute is gold: deliveries count triple for seven seconds.

How long is a shift?

Until three strikes, or dawn at four minutes. A first shift may be over in seconds, and Play again starts the next one at once.

Can I carry more than one parcel?

No, one at a time. A strike knocks the parcel off Volt’s back onto the deck, where you can roll back over it before the sorter takes it away.

Does the game save?

A shift you leave is kept in this browser and picks up at the start of the wave you were in. Best scores, the record for each night rule and badges stay in this browser and are never uploaded.
