About Static Pulse: Arcade Weather
Static Pulse: Arcade Weather is a storm-chasing arcade game played on a weather radar. You drive Unit 9, the Static Pulse storm desk's chase van, across a county of square fields and farm roads seen from above, and the van has two ways to move: Road and Field.
On the road it locks onto the asphalt and runs the grid fast, turning at the junctions; a gust front sweeping across the map cannot shift a van on the road. In a field it leaves the road and drives free, with momentum, pushed about by the wind and slowed by the mud; only a van out in a field is safe when a lightning surge runs down every power line of the grid. Hail cores, painted on the radar in green, yellow, red and magenta, hurt in either mode and have to be driven round. Switch just before the mode you are leaving would have been caught and that is a clean switch.
The broadcast runs for eight rounds of twenty seconds, and the weather changes the pattern every round. Wind brings gust fronts and pushes the van in the fields; rain brings surges, hail and mud; fog dims the map, so readings show only when the radar sweep passes over them. Readings picked up in quick succession build the Feed chain and climb the multiplier from ×1 to ×8, and a round without a hit earns a clean round bonus. A chain of ten opens the eye of the storm: the clouds part, every hazard clears, the wind drops and a gold spiral of readings worth double forms round the van for six seconds. Three hits and the signal is lost. Each broadcast draws one desk rule, the daily broadcast is the same county and weather for everyone that day, and Pace and Assist are in the settings. How to play
- Drive with the arrow keys, WASD, a stick or the on-screen stick. Space, Shift, Ⓐ or the Switch button switches between Road and Field.
- Road: the van runs the road grid fast and turns at junctions. Gust fronts pass over it harmlessly.
- Field: the van drives anywhere with momentum. It is the only safe place when lightning runs down the roads.
- Hail cores hurt in both modes: drive round them. Pick up readings one after another to build the Feed chain.
- Each round has its own weather: wind, rain or fog. A chain of ten opens the eye of the storm for six calm seconds.
Controls
- Arrow keys, WASD, left stick, D-pad or the on-screen stick — drive
- Space, Shift, E, Ⓐ or the Switch button — switch Road and Field

Frequently asked questions
When should I drive on the road and when in a field?
Stay on a road when a gust front is coming: it passes over a van on the road. Get out into a field, away from every road, when the roads crackle blue: a surge is about to run down all of them. Fields are also where the field readings are.
How do I turn on the road?
Push the stick the way you want to go. The van drives on to the next junction and turns there; push back the other way to turn round at once.
What does each weather do?
Wind sends gust fronts across the map and pushes a van in the fields. Rain brings lightning surges and hail, and the mud slows the van off the road. Fog dims the map and the readings only show for a moment after the radar sweep passes over them.
What is the eye of the storm?
Pick up ten readings in one Feed chain and the eye opens round the van: every hazard clears, the weather lifts and a gold spiral of readings worth double points waits for six seconds. It can open once per round.
Is there an easier way to play?
Yes. In Settings, Pace set to Relaxed runs the weather at three-quarter speed, and Assist makes hazards a little smaller, readings easier to reach and adds a breather between waves.
Does the game save?
A broadcast you leave is kept in this browser and picks up at the start of the wave you were in. Best scores, the daily result and badges stay in this browser and are never uploaded.
