About Static Juggler: Score After Dark
Static Juggler: Score After Dark is a night-time score chase down through a floating carnival. Mira, the Static Juggler, steps off the top of the carnival with three clubs in the air and comes down past its islands of tents, carousels and helter-skelters, and she has two ways to fall: Glide and Drop.
In Glide her striped parasol is open. She floats down slowly and steers freely, and holding up slows her almost to a hover; lanterns are caught in the parasol, and the sideshow fans blow her sideways. In Drop the parasol snaps shut and she dives, fast and nearly straight, too heavy for the fans. Garlands of pennants are strung across the sky with a single lamp-lit gap to slip through, which is easiest to line up in Glide. Firework rows light a band of sky for a moment: dive through before the fuse reaches the end, or float above until the rockets have gone. Pinwheels spin in the way. Switch just before the old mode would have been caught and that is a clean switch.
Stars and lanterns caught in quick succession build the Juggle chain and climb the multiplier from ×1 to ×8. A chain of seven throws the Cascade: every club goes up in a fountain, the garlands on screen burst into fireworks, gold stars rain down beside her and every catch counts double for six seconds. Each hit drops a club, and the third ends the act. The fall speeds up the further she goes. Score After Dark is played against your own records: the best act on each seed comes down beside you as a ghost, tonight's daily act is the same sky for everyone, and each act draws one rule. Pace and Assist are in the settings, and your best scores and badges stay in this browser.
How to play
- Steer with the arrow keys, WASD, a stick or the on-screen stick. Space, Shift, Ⓐ or the Switch button switches between Glide and Drop.
- Glide: slow and free to steer; hold up to float almost still. The parasol catches lanterns, and fans blow it sideways.
- Drop: a fast, nearly straight dive that the fans cannot push.
- Thread the gap in each garland, dive through or wait out each firework row, and steer round the pinwheels.
- A Juggle chain of seven throws the Cascade. Each hit drops a club; the third one ends the act.
Controls
- Arrow keys, WASD, left stick, D-pad or the on-screen stick — steer (up slows the parasol)
- Space, Shift, E, Ⓐ or the Switch button — switch Glide and Drop
- P, Escape or Start — pause
Frequently asked questions
When should I glide and when should I drop?
Glide to line up with a garland gap, to catch lanterns and to wait above a firework row until it has burned. Drop to get through a row before it lights and to cross a fan band without being blown off your line.
How do I slow down?
In Glide, hold up on the stick or the arrow keys: the parasol fills and Mira floats almost still. Drop has no brake.
What is the Cascade?
Catch seven stars or lanterns in one Juggle chain and Mira throws every club up in a fountain. The garlands and pinwheels on screen burst into fireworks, gold stars fall beside her and every catch counts double for six seconds.
What is the ghost?
The best act you have played on the same seed, saved in this browser, comes down beside you as a pale Mira. The top of the screen shows how far ahead of it you are. You can turn it off in Settings.
Is there an easier way to play?
Yes. In Settings, Pace set to Relaxed slows the whole act to three-quarter speed, and Assist widens the catch reach, trims the hazards and adds a breather between waves.
Does the game save?
An act you leave is kept in this browser and picks up at the start of the wave you were in. Best scores, ghosts, the daily result and badges stay in this browser and are never uploaded.
