About Quiet Deck: Suit Garden

Quiet Deck: Suit Garden is a solo card puzzle set on a travelling apothecary's wagon, parked on a village green as the light goes. The side of the wagon is let down to make a counter, and on it lie thirty-two cards, Ace to Eight in four suits: sixteen in five racks shaped like a cradle, four, three, two, three and four, and sixteen more in the herb box. Above the cards stand four tincture bottles on a shelf, one for each suit: sage, roses, amber and lavender.

A bottle is filled by planting its suit from the Ace up to the Eight, one rank at a time. The last card of a rack is open to plant; three hooks hold a card aside; the herb box turns a card onto the tray, and the tray's top card can be planted too. The tray may be tipped back into the box twice. Every card poured raises the tincture in its bottle, and when the Eighth is in, the cork pops and a coloured steam rises. Clearing a rack turns the worth of the suits over by a step, and four cream tags under the bottles show what each plant is worth now.

Once in each deal you can use the echo card. It repeats your last move: plant the next cards of the bottle you filled last, as many as the counter offers, up to five; or draw again, or hang another card on a hook, when that was your last move. Every move it makes is one the table would have let you make yourself, and it never makes one that leaves the deal impossible to clear. The bottle it feeds glows while it works.

Every deal is checked by a solving player before you see it, so it can always be cleared, and its par shows what a sharp player can reach. A deal saves where you leave it, in this browser only; nothing is uploaded. When the fourth bottle is full the four corks pop one after another and the steams twine over the wagon.

How to play

  1. Tap the last card of a rack, or drag it to its bottle, when it is the next rank for that suit. Each bottle starts at the Ace and is full at the Eight.
  2. Hang a card on a hook to reach the one beneath: drag it there, or tap it and then the hook. A card on a hook can be planted from there.
  3. Turn a card from the herb box when no plant is left. The box can be refilled from the tray twice.
  4. Use the Echo button, or press G, once a deal. It repeats your last move for as long as the counter allows, and only when a safe repeat exists.
  5. Fill all four bottles to win. Press H or the Hint button for a good move, and U or the Undo button to take a move back.

Frequently asked questions

What do I plant?

The cards of each suit, in order, from the Ace up to the Eight. Only the next rank for a suit can go into its bottle, and only from the end of a rack, a hook or the tray.

What does the echo card do?

Once in each deal it repeats your last move: it plants the next cards of the bottle you filled last, or draws again, or hangs another card, as far as the counter allows and up to five times. It is lit only when a safe repeat exists.

Can the echo spoil a deal?

No. Every move it makes is an ordinary legal move, and it only chooses moves after which the deal can still be cleared. If there is none, the button stays dark and the echo is kept.

Can every deal be cleared?

With "Winnable deals only" (the default, and always for today's challenge) a solving player has cleared the deal before you see it. Choose "Any shuffle" in the settings for the luck of the draw.

Does it save my game?

Yes, in this browser only. Your unfinished deal, best scores and badges are never uploaded. The echo card is renewed when you resume a deal.
