About Moonlit Chapel: Suit Garden

Moonlit Chapel: Suit Garden is a solo card puzzle set at a travelling apothecary's counter, a slab of grey marble lit by a lantern and crowded with bottles. The apothecary has a short deck, Ace to Nine in four suits, and lays twenty-four of its cards on the marble in six shelves. Above the counter stand four glass cloches, one for each suit's herb: sage, roses, chamomile and juniper berries.

Plant a herb from the Ace up. Only the lowest card of a shelf is open, and it can go under its cloche only when it is the next rank for its suit, so the card you need is often beneath the one you do not. Three jars hold a card each while you dig. The seed drawer turns over one card at a time onto the tray, and the tray can be turned back into the drawer three times. Every card planted grows the herb a little: a sprout, leaves, a bud, and then the flower in its own colour.

Clearing a whole shelf winds every suit up a step in value, and the mortar on the counter grinds to mark it. A card scores by what its suit is worth, streaks of plays without a draw score more, and each herb brought to flower adds a bonus. When all four flower, the cloches lift off their saucers on a run of wind chimes and the cards fountain over the marble.

Every deal is checked by a solving player before you see it, so it can always be cleared, and its par shows what a sharp player can reach. A deal saves where you leave it, in this browser only; nothing is uploaded.

How to play

  1. Tap the lowest card of a shelf, or drag it to its cloche, when it is the next rank for its suit. Each herb starts at the Ace and grows to the Nine.
  2. Put a card in a jar to reach the one beneath: drag it there, or tap it and then the jar. A card in a jar can be planted from there.
  3. Turn a card over from the seed drawer when no plant is possible. The tray can be turned back into the drawer three times.
  4. Clear a whole shelf and every suit is worth a step more. The labels under the cloches show what each herb is worth now.
  5. Bring all four herbs to flower to win. Press H or the Hint button for a good move, and U or the Undo button to take a move back.

Frequently asked questions

What do I plant?

The cards of each suit, in order, from the Ace up to the Nine. Only the next rank for a suit can go under its cloche, and only from the end of a shelf, a jar or the tray.

How does a herb grow?

A little with every card planted: a sprout, leaves, a bud, and then its flower opens with the Nine. All four in flower wins the deal.

What do the jars do?

Each holds one card aside so you can reach the card beneath it. A card in a jar can still be planted later.

Can every deal be cleared?

With "Winnable deals only" (the default, and always for today's challenge) a solving player has cleared the deal before you see it. Choose "Any shuffle" in the settings for the luck of the draw.

Does it save my game?

Yes, in this browser only. Your unfinished deal, best scores and badges are never uploaded.
