About Comet Signal: Arcade Weather
Comet Signal: Arcade Weather puts you behind the glass of a midnight city tram. The line runs ahead to a vanishing point in the dark, and signal lamps rise out of it and swing out past the cab one after another. All you have to work with is the wiper. Move the blade with the mouse, a finger on the window, the arrow keys or a stick, and it clears whatever is on the glass under it.
The weather is on the glass, and it changes every round. Rain drops patter down in the drizzle. Fog creeps in from the edges of the window in the fog bank. In the gale, a gust shows you a sheet of paper coming and then slaps it on the lamp you were about to read. The frost clears slowly, and in the thunderstorm every flash whites the window out for a moment. To read a lamp you wipe the glass over it and keep it clear for half a second. A red lamp also needs the brake, pressed after you have read it and before it goes by.
A lamp that slips past unread, or a red one you did not brake for, costs a safety light, and the lamps you miss leave smears on the next round’s glass. Three lights and the run is over; six rounds make the line. Read six lamps in a row and the Green Wave sweeps the glass clean and doubles the points for a few seconds. Each run adds a rule of its own, tonight’s line is the same for everyone, and your best run of it wipes alongside you as a ghost blade.
How to play
- Move the wiper blade with the mouse, a finger on the glass, the arrow keys or WASD, or a stick.
- Wipe the glass over a lamp and keep it clear for half a second to read it. Reading it early, while it is still small, pays more.
- After you read a red lamp, press Space, Enter or Brake before it passes. Do not brake when no red lamp is waiting.
- Watch for the weather: rain, fog, gusts, frost and lightning. A flash stops the reading for a moment.
- A missed lamp or an unbraked red costs a safety light. Three lights and the run ends.
- Read six lamps in a row to set off the Green Wave: the glass clears and every read scores double for a few seconds.
Controls
- Mouse or a finger on the glass, arrow keys or WASD, left stick, the on-screen stick — move the wiper
- Space, Enter, Ⓐ or RT, the Brake button — brake
- P, Escape or Start — pause
Frequently asked questions
How do I read a lamp?
Wipe the glass over it and keep it clear. When it has been clear for half a second the lamp is read. Rain, fog or a flash can interrupt it, and a lamp you have not wiped at all cannot be read yet.
When do I brake?
Only for a red lamp, and only after you have read it: press Space, Enter or the Brake button before the lamp goes by. Braking when no red lamp is waiting breaks your chain.
What do the gusts and the lightning do?
A gust shows a sheet of paper coming and then slaps it on the glass, usually where a lamp is. Lightning flashes whiten the window for a moment, and nothing can be read until it passes.
What is the Green Wave?
Read six lamps in a row without a miss and the glass sweeps clean, and every read scores double for eight seconds. A missed lamp, an unbraked red lamp or a wrong brake starts the count again.
Can I slow it down?
Yes. In Settings, Pace: Relaxed runs at three-quarter speed, and Assist widens the wiper blade, slows the fog and gives the lamps more time.
