About Comet Pulse: Score After Dark

Comet Pulse: Score After Dark is a night shift in a neon parcel depot, seen from straight above. In the middle of the floor is a carousel sorter: three steel rings that turn at their own speeds round a launcher. You aim the launcher with the left and right keys, a stick, the on-screen pair or the mouse, and you fire with one button that you hold and let go. The longer you hold, the further the parcel flies: a short tap lobs it to the cyan bins on the inner ring, a hold to the magenta chutes in the middle, and a full charge to the amber express gates on the outside.

Every parcel that lands keeps your chain alive for three seconds and pays more as the chain grows, so there is always a choice to make. The bins are wide and slow and pay little. The express gates are narrow and fast, pay five times as much, and each has a shutter that slams shut on a beat: a parcel that hits a shut gate blows a fuse. A parcel that misses clanks off the ring, breaks the chain and drops your multiplier. And the feed belt never waits: when it backs up, a fuse blows too.

Eight orders make a shift, each with its own rings, speeds and gate rhythm, and the shots you miss leave a jam that keeps the next order’s shutters shut longer. Sort twelve in a row and the sorter goes into Overload: the wheel runs hot, the shutters stand open and every parcel scores double for seven seconds. Each night adds a rule of its own, today’s shift is the same for everyone, and your best run of it fires beside you as a ghost.

How to play

  1. Aim with the left and right arrows or A and D, a controller’s left stick, the on-screen pair, or the mouse pointer.
  2. Hold Space, Enter, the up arrow, Ⓐ or the Fire button to charge, and let go to fire. The charge picks the ring: short for the bins, longer for the chutes, full for the express gates.
  3. Watch the sights: the aim line turns green when the parcel would land on a target, and the target lights up.
  4. Every parcel that lands keeps the chain alive for three seconds. A miss breaks the chain and drops the multiplier by a step.
  5. A parcel that reaches an express gate while its shutter is shut blows a fuse. The shutters flash before they close.
  6. The belt feeds a new parcel every second or so: when it backs up, a fuse blows. Chain twelve to start Overload.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose which ring to shoot at?

By how long you hold the fire button. A tap goes to the bins, a medium hold to the chutes and a full hold to the express gates. The aim line grows to the ring you have picked.

Why did my shot miss when I aimed right at a target?

The rings keep turning while the parcel flies, and further rings take longer to reach. The sights show where a parcel fired now would land: wait for the line to turn green.

What do the shutters do?

Each express gate has a shutter that closes on a beat and flashes before it does. A parcel that hits a shut gate blows a fuse. In Overload every shutter stays open.

Why does a fuse blow when I do nothing?

The belt feeds a new parcel every second or so. If you let it back up past the end, it jams and blows a fuse, so keep firing.

Can I slow it down?

Yes. In Settings, Pace: Relaxed runs at three-quarter speed, Assist widens every target, and Toggle instead of hold makes the fire button press-to-charge, press-to-fire.
