About Brass Deck: Suit Garden

Brass Deck: Suit Garden is a solo card puzzle set in the brass-bound chest of a travelling apothecary. Opened on its quilted indigo velvet, the chest holds a short deck, Ace to Eight in four suits of mortars, flames, crystals and phials, laid in six small drawers of two, three and four cards, deepest in the middle. Above the drawers stands a brass rack with four glass flasks, one for each suit.

Each flask is planted from the Ace up. The open card at the foot of each drawer can be taken when it is the next rank for its suit, and every card you plant drops a crystal into its flask and raises the tincture, until the Eight opens a crystal blossom on the flask's neck. The deal is won when all four flasks are in bloom. Two phials hold a card each while you reach deeper into a drawer, and the satchel turns over one card at a time onto the mortar; it can go back into the satchel twice.

A stack of brass weights before each flask shows what its suit is worth, one to four weights a card. Each drawer you clear swaps the heaviest and the lightest suits, so it pays to choose which drawer to empty while a rich suit still has cards to plant. A new rule each night changes something in the chest. Every deal is checked by a solving player before you see it, and the par shows what a careful hand can reach. How to play

  1. Plant each suit in its flask from the Ace up to the Eight. Tap a card that is next in line, or drag it to its flask.
  2. Only the open card at the foot of a drawer can be played. Playing it opens the card above it.
  3. Put a card in one of the two phials to reach the card behind it: drag it to an empty phial, or tap it and then the phial.
  4. Turn the satchel over one card at a time onto the mortar. The mortar goes back into the satchel twice.
  5. Clearing a drawer swaps the most and the least valuable suits, shown by the brass weights.
  6. Bring all four flasks to bloom to win. Press H or the Hint button for a good move, and U or the Undo button to take a move back.

Frequently asked questions

How does a flask bloom?

Each flask is planted from the Ace up. Every card drops a crystal in and raises the tincture, and the Eight opens a crystal blossom on its neck.

What are the phials for?

Each holds one card from the foot of a drawer, so you can reach the card above it. A card in a phial can still be planted when its turn comes.

What do the brass weights mean?

They show what each suit is worth, one to four weights a card. Clearing a drawer swaps the heaviest and the lightest suits.

Can every deal be won?

With "Winnable deals only" (the default, and always for today's challenge) a solving player has won the deal before you see it. Choose "Any shuffle" in the settings for the luck of the draw.
