About Brass Chapel: Last Draw

Brass Chapel: Last Draw is a solo card game set in a hill chapel made over into a lunar observatory. On the slate floor, over a silver chart of the moon's seas, a full deck stands in a pyramid of seven courses, and a card is open once the two cards below it are gone. Open cards are played onto the moon dial, but what fits there is not always the usual rank up or down: the moon in the tall pointed window sets the rule.

At new moon a card fits one rank up or down, with the King and the Ace side by side. At first quarter it fits within two ranks, though never the same rank. At full moon the two ranks must add up to fourteen, so a Six goes on an Eight and a Seven on a Seven. At last quarter they must be exactly two apart. Every course you clear turns the phase, and the rule with it, so the order you clear the courses in is the whole puzzle.

The plate box holds fourteen cards and is never turned back. A wax candle beside it burns down as you draw and gutters over the last three, and every plate left when the pyramid is clear scores well. Two niches hold a card each. Four silver stars in the window show what each suit is worth, and clearing a course turns their order upside down. Clear the pyramid and the moon is eclipsed, washed copper by the earth's shadow. A new rule each night adds a twist. Every deal is checked by a solving player first, and the par shows what a careful player can reach. Your best scores and badges stay in this browser.

How to play

  1. Play an open card of the pyramid onto the moon dial when it fits the moon's rule. A card is open when the two cards below it are gone.
  2. The rule follows the phase: new moon, one rank up or down; first quarter, within two ranks; full moon, the ranks add up to fourteen; last quarter, exactly two apart.
  3. Each course you clear turns the moon to its next phase, and turns the suits' worth upside down.
  4. When nothing fits, draw a plate from the box. There are only fourteen and the box is never turned back.
  5. Park a card in one of the two niches to reach the card beneath it, or to keep it for a later phase.
  6. Press H or the Hint button for a good move, and U or the Undo button to take a move back.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the rule change?

The moon sets which cards match the dial, and its phase turns each time you clear a course of the pyramid: new moon, first quarter, full moon, last quarter, then new moon again.

What does "add up to fourteen" mean?

At full moon a card fits when its rank and the dial card's rank make fourteen. An Ace is one and a King thirteen, so an Ace goes on a King, a Six on an Eight and a Seven on a Seven.

Why is it called Last Draw?

The plate box holds only fourteen cards and is never turned back, so the last plates decide the deal. Every plate left when the pyramid is clear scores extra.

Can every deal be cleared?

With "Winnable deals only" (the default, and always for today's challenge) a solving player has cleared the deal before you see it. Choose "Any shuffle" in the settings for the luck of the draw.

Does it save my game?

Your unfinished deal, best scores and badges are saved in this browser only, and nothing is uploaded.
