Press Record, speak, then press Stop. Up to 10 minutes; the recording stays in this page and is never uploaded.

2. Choose an effect

Each effect plays as soon as it is ready; press another to compare.

Higher and deeper

Four semitones lower, with the voice’s resonances lowered a little too, so it sounds like a bigger voice at the same speed.

Eight semitones lower with the resonances following: a huge, slow-sounding voice that still speaks at your speed.

Four semitones higher, with the resonances raised a little, so it still sounds like a person rather than a cartoon.

Nine semitones higher with the resonances following, the classic helium voice, at your own speed.

Characters

Ring modulation at 55 Hz and a short metallic echo: the classic electronic robot sound.

Seven semitones lower, roughened with distortion and a fast growl, with the highs taken off.

Ten semitones lower with a slow ring modulation, some distortion and a dark, booming reverb.

Three semitones higher, ring-modulated at 300 Hz and wobbling: a voice from somewhere else.

A reverse reverb: the room’s echo swells up before every word, as in a horror film.

A strong vibrato that bends the pitch up and down five times a second.

Phone and radio

Only the band a classic phone line carries, roughly 300 to 3,400 Hz, slightly crunchy and compressed.

A narrow, mid-heavy band with warm distortion and a little hiss, like an old valve radio.

A thin, crushed band with heavy clipping and hiss, like a two-way radio.

A loud, honking mid band driven hard, like a voice through a loud hailer.

Echo and rooms

Repeats a third of a second apart, each a little quieter, as across a valley.

A long, dark reverb with a close slap-back, like talking in a big cave.

A two-second reverb, like a large hall or an empty stadium.

Muffled below 500 Hz, slowly wavering and a little reverberant, as if heard under water.

Speed and reverse

Played at 0.7 times the speed, like a slowed tape: slower and deeper together.

Played at 1.45 times the speed, like a fast tape: quicker and higher together.

Your recording backwards, from the last sound to the first.

Your own pitch

12 semitones is an octave. The speed stays the same.

About the Voice Changer

Record your voice in the page or open a recording, then tap an effect to hear it changed: deeper, higher or chipmunk, a robot, a monster, a demon, an alien or a ghost, a telephone, an old radio, a walkie-talkie or a megaphone, an echo, a cave, a hall or under water, slow motion, fast forward or backwards. 21 effects in all, plus a pitch slider of your own, and each one plays the moment it is ready, so you can compare them one after another.

The higher and deeper voices change the pitch without changing the speed, so your words keep their timing. When you like one, download it with a pass, or after unlocking it, as an MP3 that plays everywhere or as an exact WAV. Everything happens on your device: the recording stays in this page and nothing is uploaded.

Without a pass, each effect plays as a free preview: the first half of the changed clip (up to 30 seconds) with a short MySmartCoPilot chime every 10 seconds.

How to use it

  1. Choose Record and press the button to record your voice (allow the microphone when the browser asks), then press Stop. Or choose Open a file and pick a voice note, an MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG, or a video.
  2. Tap an effect such as Deep voice, Robot or Telephone. It plays as soon as it is ready; tap another to compare.
  3. For a pitch of your own, move the Pitch slider (12 semitones is an octave), choose Keep it natural or not, and press Apply this pitch.
  4. Press Download MP3 or Download WAV to save the effect you like, with a pass or after unlocking it. Without a pass each effect plays a free preview instead: the first half (up to 30 seconds) with a short MySmartCoPilot chime every 10 seconds.

Examples

A deeper voice at the same speed
Input
A 10-second voice note · Deep voice
Result
The same 10 seconds, four semitones lower, as an MP3

Pitch effects keep the timing. Slow motion is the other way of sounding deeper: slower and lower together, like a slowed tape.

A robot announcement
Input
A recording of “Welcome, human” · Robot
Result
The voice ring-modulated at 55 Hz with a short metallic echo

Speak slowly and evenly: robot voices sound best without much expression.

A phone call in a video
Input
A line of dialogue · Telephone
Result
Only the band between about 300 and 3,400 Hz, slightly crunchy and compressed

Common uses

  • Funny voices for videos, reels and voice notes.
  • Character voices for games, stories and school projects.
  • A telephone or radio sound for a scene in a film or podcast.
  • Disguising your voice for a game or a quiz with friends.
  • Checking how a recorded line sounds with echo or in a hall.

The effects

  • Higher and deeper: Deep voice and Higher voice keep the voice natural; Giant and Chipmunk let its resonances move with the pitch for a bigger or smaller speaker.
  • Characters: Robot, Monster, Demon, Alien, Ghost (the room’s echo swells up before every word) and Wobbly.
  • Phone and radio: Telephone, Old radio, Walkie-talkie and Megaphone, each with its own band of frequencies, distortion and hiss.
  • Echo and rooms: Echo, Cave, Hall and Underwater.
  • Speed and reverse: Slow motion and Fast forward change speed and pitch together, like a tape; Reverse plays the clip backwards.

Every result is set to the same peak level, its loudest moment just under full scale (a very quiet recording is turned up by at most 18 dB), so effects can be compared fairly.

How the effects are made

Pitch changes split the sound into very short overlapping pieces and move their frequencies up or down without stretching time, so a voice four semitones lower still says each word at the same moment. Keep it natural also keeps the voice’s resonances, the formants that make it sound like you, in place; without it they move with the pitch, which is what makes a chipmunk sound small. The other effects are classic studio processing: band-pass filters for the telephone and radio, ring modulation (the voice multiplied by a low tone) for the robot and the alien, soft distortion, a compressor, delay lines for echo and vibrato, and reverb from a simulated room. All of it runs on your device.

Getting a good recording

  • Hold the phone or the microphone a hand’s width from your mouth and record somewhere quiet: echo and radio effects make background noise louder.
  • If the level meter reaches the red end, move back a little.
  • Leave a moment of silence at the start and the end; the echo and reverb effects add a tail after your last word.

Limitations

  • Clips up to 10 minutes. Cut a longer file down first, for example with the MP3 Cutter.
  • Effects are applied to a recording or a file; this page does not change your voice live in calls or games.
  • Recordings are made in mono, and stereo files are mixed to mono.
  • Very noisy recordings stay noisy; the effects do not remove background noise.
  • Use voice effects for fun and creative work, never to deceive anyone about who is speaking.

Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, Voice Changer shows every effect on your own voice, the first half of the changed clip (up to 30 seconds) with a short MySmartCoPilot chime every 10 seconds. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

Do I need a pass?

To download the changed voice as MP3 or WAV, yes: a Pro pass unlocks every Pro tool. Without a pass you hear a free preview of your own recording: every effect and your own pitch play the first half of the changed clip (up to 30 seconds), with a short MySmartCoPilot chime every 10 seconds. An unlock of one result (Ways to unlock lists how) gives that effect in full. You don’t need an account.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. Your voice is recorded and changed on your device, and the recording stays in this page until you close it. Only parts of the page itself, such as the pitch engine and the MP3 encoder, download from MySmartCoPilot the first time you use them.

How do I make my voice deeper?

Tap Deep voice for a natural, lower voice at the same speed, or Giant for a much bigger one. For a precise change, move the Pitch slider below zero and press Apply this pitch; −12 is a full octave lower.

Which files can I open?

Voice notes and recordings in MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, OGG, Opus, FLAC and WebM, and the sound of MP4, MOV and MKV videos. If one does not open, convert it with the Audio Converter first.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Recording works in current mobile browsers once you allow the microphone, and so does opening a voice note from your files. Downloads go to your phone’s downloads.

Why does the result sound longer than my recording?

Echo, Cave, Hall, Underwater, Demon and Ghost add the sound of the room after your last word (Ghost before your first), and Slow motion plays the clip more slowly. The other effects keep its length.
