About the Sweden ISK Tax Calculator (Investeringssparkonto)

Work out the yearly tax on a Swedish investment savings account (investeringssparkonto, ISK). An ISK is not taxed on its gains, dividends or withdrawals; instead it has a standard income (schablonintäkt) on its capital base, taxed at 30 %. The calculator adds the account’s value at the start of each quarter and the deposits of the year, divides by four, applies the year’s rate of 3,55 % and takes off the deduction for the tax-free level of 300 000 kr.

If you also save in a kapitalförsäkring or a PEPP product, they share the same tax-free level, and the ISK uses it first: enter their capital base to see what is left for them. You can also compare the ISK tax with 30 % tax on the same year’s return in a regular account. Nothing you type leaves your browser. Without a pass the page shows a free preview of your own result: your ISK tax and the rules of the year, with the first rows of the working, while every other figure stays hidden until you unlock it with a Pro pass.

How to use it

  1. Enter the account’s value at the start of January, April, July and October, and the money you deposited during the year — or the capital base from your bank’s or broker’s statement.
  2. Leave out transfers from another of your own ISKs: they are not deposits.
  3. Add the capital base of any kapitalförsäkring or PEPP savings to see how the tax-free level is shared, and a return to compare with a regular account.
  4. Read the ISK tax for the year, the standard income and the deduction, line by line.
  5. With a Pro pass, or after unlocking this result, copy the summary or download it as a CSV file; without one the page shows a free preview.

Examples

Skatteverket’s example: a capital base of 350 000 kr
Result
Standard income 12 425 kr, deduction 10 650 kr, tax 532 kr.
A capital base of 250 000 kr, within the tax-free level
Result
Standard income 8 875 kr, deduction 8 875 kr, no tax.
400 000 kr, 420 000 kr, 430 000 kr and 450 000 kr at the quarters, 60 000 kr deposited
Result
Capital base 440 000 kr; tax 1 491 kr, 0,339 % of the capital base.
A capital base of 1 000 000 kr
Result
Tax 7 455 kr: a regular account would cost more whenever the year’s return is above 2,49 %.

How the ISK tax is worked out

  • Capital base (kapitalunderlag): the value at the start of each quarter plus every deposit of the year, divided by four (Skatteverket).
  • Standard income (schablonintäkt): the capital base × the government bond rate (statslåneränta) on 30 November of the year before plus one percentage point, never less than 1,25 %: 2,55 % + 1 = 3,55 % (Belopp och procent).
  • Tax-free level: your ISK, kapitalförsäkring and PEPP savings together have a level of 300 000 kr, given as a deduction of at most 10 650 kr (300 000 kr × 3,55 %), the ISK first.
  • Tax: 30 % of the standard income left — 1,065 % of the capital base above the level.

ISK or a regular account

In a regular account (depå) you pay 30 % on gains when you sell and on dividends. An ISK costs a fixed share of its capital each year instead, whatever the return. Above the tax-free level the ISK costs less in a year whose return is above about 3,55 %; within the level it costs nothing. The comparison here is for one year, as if the whole return were taxed that year.

Limitations

  • The tax on a kapitalförsäkring itself (avkastningsskatt) is not worked out: only its share of the tax-free level.
  • Interest on cash in the account above the year’s standard rate, and foreign tax on dividends, have rules of their own.
  • People who are not taxed in Sweden for the whole year have rules of their own.
  • Uses the rate and the tax-free level of income year 2026; an estimate, not tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, Sweden ISK Tax Calculator (Investeringssparkonto) shows your isk tax for the year in full, with the rules of the year and the first rows of the working (up to 3); every other figure is hidden. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment unless you choose automatic renewal, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

How much tax do I pay on an ISK?

1,065 % of the capital base above the tax-free level of 300 000 kr: the standard income of 3,55 % taxed at 30 %. On a capital base of 1 000 000 kr that is 7 455 kr.

What is the capital base (kapitalunderlag)?

The value of the account at the start of January, April, July and October, plus every deposit of the year, divided by four. Transfers from another of your own ISKs are not deposits.

Is the tax-free level per account?

No. It is 300 000 kr for your ISK, kapitalförsäkring and PEPP savings together, and the ISK uses it first.

Do I pay tax when I sell shares or take money out?

No. Gains, dividends and withdrawals inside an ISK are not taxed, and losses cannot be deducted; only the standard income is.

Is what I enter sent anywhere?

No. Everything is worked out in your browser; nothing you enter is uploaded or stored on a server.
