About the Stock Market Hours & Trading Sessions
See at a glance which stock exchanges and forex sessions are open now, when each one opens or closes next, and its trading hours in your own time zone. The list covers the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq, the Toronto Stock Exchange, the London Stock Exchange, Xetra, Euronext Paris, Amsterdam and Milan, the Bolsa de Madrid, India’s National Stock Exchange, the Tokyo Stock Exchange with its lunch break and the ASX, plus the four conventional forex sessions.
Every time is worked out in your browser from each exchange’s published regular hours and the time-zone rules of your device, so daylight saving time is right on every date: the United States and Europe change their clocks on different Sundays, and Sydney’s summer time runs through the northern winter. The 24-hour timeline shows the sessions of your own day side by side, with a line at the current time.
How to use it
- Open the page: it starts in your device’s time zone. To see the day from somewhere else, pick another zone in the list.
- Read each market’s status — Open, Lunch break, Closed or Closed for the weekend — and the countdown to its next open or close.
- Use the filter to show your own country’s exchanges, a region, or the forex sessions only.
- Check the timeline to see when sessions overlap in your day, such as London and New York in the afternoon in Europe.
- Before you trade on a particular day, check the exchange’s own calendar for holidays and early closes, which this page does not show.
Examples
Open: New York (10:00), Toronto, London (15:00), Xetra (16:00), Euronext · Closed: National Stock Exchange (20:30 in India), Tokyo, ASX
London and New York overlap for a few hours each weekday afternoon in Europe.
NYSE: Closed for the weekend · opens in 13 h 30 min · Tokyo and the ASX are already open on Monday morning
Tokyo Stock Exchange: Lunch break · opens in 30 min (afternoon session 12:30–15:30 Tokyo time)
09:30–16:00 New York time is 19:00–01:30 in India while New York is on daylight saving time (March to November), and 20:00–02:30 in the northern winter
Where the hours come from
The regular continuous-trading hours are restated from each exchange’s official pages, in its own local time:
- New York Stock Exchange: 09:30–16:00 New York time (NYSE hours)
- Nasdaq: 09:30–16:00 New York time (Nasdaq trading hours)
- Toronto Stock Exchange: 09:30–16:00 Toronto time (TSX trading hours)
- London Stock Exchange: 08:00–16:30 London time (LSE business days and trading parameters)
- Xetra: 09:00–17:30 Frankfurt time (Deutsche Börse trading hours)
- Euronext Paris, Amsterdam and Milan: 09:00–17:30 local time (Euronext trading hours)
- Bolsa de Madrid: 09:00–17:30 Madrid time (BME trading hours)
- National Stock Exchange of India: 09:15–15:30 India time (NSE market timings)
- Tokyo Stock Exchange: 09:00–11:30 and 12:30–15:30 Tokyo time (JPX trading hours)
- ASX: 10:00–16:00 Sydney time (ASX trading hours)
How the times are worked out
For the moment you open the page, the tool reads each exchange’s local weekday and time from your browser’s time-zone database. To find the next open or close it builds each session of the next eight local days in the exchange’s own zone and converts it with that date’s offset, so a session after a clock change is placed correctly even when your own zone has not changed. Countdowns round up to the next whole minute and count regular trading days only.
The forex sessions
The currency market has no single exchange: banks and brokers trade from Sunday evening to Friday evening, New York time. Traders still speak of four sessions by the financial centre that is busiest. The windows used here are conventions — Sydney 07:00–16:00, Tokyo 09:00–18:00, London 08:00–17:00 and New York 08:00–17:00, each in its own city’s time — not exchange hours, and brokers may draw them differently.
What it leaves out
- Holidays and early closes. Exchanges close on public holidays and some close early before them; the status here assumes a regular trading day.
- Auctions and extended sessions. Opening and closing auctions, pre-market and after-hours trading are not shown.
- Other venues and products. Derivatives, bond and commodity markets keep their own hours, as do brokers’ own trading hours.
Limitations
- Regular sessions only: no exchange holidays, early closes, auctions or extended-hours trading.
- The times depend on your device’s time-zone rules; a device with outdated rules can be an hour off after a government changes its clocks.
- Forex session windows are conventions, not exchange hours.
- Exchanges not listed here keep their own hours: check their official websites.

Frequently asked questions
Is the stock market open right now?
The page shows each listed exchange as Open, Lunch break, Closed or Closed for the weekend at this moment, with the time to its next open or close. It assumes a regular trading day, so check the exchange’s calendar on public holidays.
What time does the New York Stock Exchange open in my time zone?
At 09:30 New York time. The page converts it to your zone for today’s date, including daylight saving time: for a visitor in India it is 19:00 while New York is on daylight saving time (from March to November) and 20:00 in the northern winter.
Why is the gap between London and New York sometimes 4 hours instead of 5?
The United States moves its clocks forward on the second Sunday of March and back on the first Sunday of November; the United Kingdom changes on the last Sundays of March and October. For two or three weeks each spring and one week each autumn the two cities are 4 hours apart, and the page shows the times for each date as they are.
Does the Tokyo Stock Exchange close for lunch?
Yes. It trades from 09:00 to 11:30 and from 12:30 to 15:30 Tokyo time; between the two sessions the page shows a lunch break and the time to the afternoon open.
Does it show exchange holidays?
No. Holiday calendars change every year, so the page shows regular trading days and links to each exchange’s own hours page, where its calendar is published.
What are the forex trading sessions?
Sydney, Tokyo, London and New York are the conventional names for the busiest hours of the currency market, which trades around the clock from Sunday evening to Friday evening New York time. Their overlaps, such as London and New York, are usually the most active hours.
Why is my country’s exchange not in the list?
The list covers the exchanges linked under “Where the hours come from”. For any other exchange, its official website publishes its trading hours and holidays.
