About the Shop POS Billing (barcode till, UPI and thermal receipts)

A till for a shop that runs in your browser and keeps everything on your own device. Add your items once — name, price, barcode, tax rate and stock, typed in or imported from a spreadsheet — and ring up a bill by scanning barcodes (a USB or Bluetooth scanner types into the page; a phone or laptop camera reads codes too), typing a code or a few letters of the name, or pressing a quick button. The bill works out discounts, GST (CGST + SGST, or IGST for a customer in another State), VAT or sales tax, and rounds the total if you want.

Take cash (with the change worked out), UPI (a QR code with the amount for the customer to scan), card, a split of them, or put the bill on a customer’s account (udhaar) and record what they pay later. Every bill gets the next number; the Sales tab adds up each day by payment method and tax rate, and the receipt comes out on a 58 or 80 mm thermal roll or an A4, A5 or Letter sheet, through the print dialog or straight to an ESC/POS receipt printer. In the free preview, receipts, summaries and statements show as page images marked “MySmartCoPilot preview · not for use”, with their totals hidden, and the till’s UPI QR code cannot be scanned; a Premium pass gives the clean receipts and the QR code. Receipts never carry a “Powered by” line.

    How to use it

    1. Open Settings and fill in your shop: name, address, phone, your GSTIN (India) or VAT number, the tax on sales, whether your prices include it, your UPI ID and the receipt paper.
    2. Add your items under Items — or import them from a spreadsheet (Data & backup has a template). Tick Quick button on the ones you sell most.
    3. On the Bill tab, scan each item or type its name or code and press Enter. Change a quantity with − and +, or press Price, discount to change one line. Choose a customer if the bill goes on their account or needs their name.
    4. Choose how they pay — cash (type what they hand over to see the change), UPI, card, on account or split — and press Complete sale (or Ctrl + Enter). The bill is saved with its number.
    5. Without a pass the receipt stays a free preview; with a Premium pass, Print, Download PDF or send it to your receipt printer. The Sales tab shows the day’s totals, and Data & backup keeps an encrypted backup of everything.

    Examples

GST inside a shelf price (India)
    Input
A pen set at ₹100 including 18% GST, sold within your State
    Result
    Taxable value ₹84.74, CGST 9% ₹7.63, SGST 9% ₹7.63 — total ₹100.00

The tax is 100 × 18 ÷ 118; each half is rounded on its own, so CGST and SGST are always the same amount.

    Cash and change
    Input
Bill of ₹430, the customer hands over ₹500
    Result
Change ₹70; the quick buttons offer ₹440, ₹450, ₹500 and ₹600 as amounts received
    On account (udhaar)
    Input
Bill of ₹240 for Asha, she pays ₹200 in cash; she owed ₹150 before
    Result
₹40 goes on her account; her balance is ₹190, with a WhatsApp or SMS reminder you send yourself
    VAT in a UK shop
    Input
    A notebook at £12.00 including 20% VAT
    Result
Net £10.00, VAT £2.00, total £12.00, with your VAT number on the receipt

    Common uses

    • Grocery and general stores, stationers, chemists, hardware and mobile shops billing at the counter with a barcode scanner.
    • Market stalls and small kiosks billing from a phone, with the camera reading barcodes and a Bluetooth receipt printer.
    • Shops that sell on credit to regular customers and want the balances, reminders and statements in one place.
    • Owners who want the day’s sales by cash, UPI and card, the cash expected in the drawer and the tax by rate for their accountant.

What a GST bill shows (India)

Rule 46 of the CGST Rules lists what a tax invoice must carry. The till prints them from your settings and the bill:

    • your name, address and GSTIN, and a serial number of up to 16 characters (letters, digits, “-” and “/”), unique for the financial year — the till restarts the numbers each year when you choose a financial-year number;
    • the date, and the customer’s name, address and GSTIN when they are registered;
    • for a customer without a GSTIN, their name, address and State when the taxable value is ₹50,000 or more (rule 46(e)) — the till warns you;
    • the HSN or SAC code, description, quantity and unit of each item, the taxable value after discounts, and the rate and amount of CGST and SGST (UTGST in some Union territories) or IGST;
    • the place of supply with the State for a customer in another State, and a signature line.

How many digits of the HSN code a bill needs depends on your turnover: the HSN Code Finder explains the rule and finds the codes.

Bills of supply, composition and small sales

    • Items with no GST (exempt goods) go on a bill of supply (rule 49), and a bill with both taxed and exempt items for an unregistered customer becomes an invoice-cum-bill of supply (rule 46A). The till picks the title by itself.
    • A composition taxpayer charges no GST and issues bills of supply with the words “composition taxable person, not eligible to collect tax on supplies” at the top (rule 5(1)(f)): tick Composition taxpayer under Settings.
    • For a sale of less than ₹200 to an unregistered customer who does not ask for one, a tax invoice may be left out, provided a consolidated tax invoice is issued for all such sales at the close of the day (section 31(3)(b) of the CGST Act and rule 46). The day summary lists the day’s sales by rate.

    Barcode scanners and the camera

    • A USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner works like a keyboard: it types the code and presses Enter. Keep the cursor in the scan box, or anywhere on the Bill tab outside a text box — fast typing that ends in Enter is taken as a scan.
    • Camera: press Camera and hold the barcode in the frame; every code read goes on the bill. The browser’s own barcode reader is used where it has one, otherwise a reader made for this site (it downloads once).
    • EAN-13, UPC-A, EAN-8, Code 128 and QR codes are read. A 12-digit UPC is also found as the 13-digit EAN with a leading 0, and the other way round.
    • An unknown code offers to create the item with it. Labels for your own items come from the Label Sheet Maker.

    Receipt printers

    • Print dialog (any printer): the receipt is drawn at the roll’s own size (58 or 80 mm wide, as long as the receipt) or on a sheet. Choose the receipt printer and its paper size in the dialog, with margins off and the scale at 100%.
    • Straight to the printer (ESC/POS): in Chrome or Edge, the till sends the receipt to a printer that understands ESC/POS commands — most 58 and 80 mm receipt printers. Bluetooth reaches Bluetooth Low Energy printers only (Web Bluetooth cannot use “classic” Bluetooth); on a computer, a printer on a serial port (a USB-serial printer, or a Bluetooth printer paired with the computer) works too.
    • Picture prints every language, your logo and the QR code exactly as on screen; Text uses the printer’s own font, sends far less data and prints only English letters, digits and basic signs. Print a test slip first: it shows whether the width is right.
    • Printers differ: if a printer prints nothing or garbage, try the other width, Text mode, or the print dialog.

Your data stays on this device

    • Items, customers, bills and accounts are kept in this browser on this device (IndexedDB). Nothing is uploaded, and you don’t need an account.
    • Set a passcode under Data & backup to keep the register encrypted (AES-256) and locked when you step away.
    • Clearing the browser’s site data deletes the register: download an encrypted backup regularly (the till reminds you), and restore it on another device to move the shop there. Your own data — items, customers, bills, payments — also downloads as CSV for a spreadsheet or your accountant.

    Outside India

Choose VAT or GST (one rate per item, usually included in the shelf price — the receipt shows the net amount and the tax) or Sales tax (added at the till, as in the United States, where you type your state and local rate). The currency, number style and paper size start from your country and can be changed under Settings. UPI payments are offered for rupee bills only.

    Limitations

    • One device: the till does not sync between devices. Two tabs on the same device share it safely; to move to another device, restore a backup there.
    • The till cannot see your bank, UPI app or card machine: check that a payment arrived before you complete the sale.
    • No e-invoices (IRN) and no GST returns are made here. Returns after a sale need a credit note (Credit Note Generator); a bill can only be cancelled.
    • Up to 20,000 items and 20,000 customers; a bill has at most 300 lines.
    • Direct printing needs Chrome or Edge and a printer that understands ESC/POS; other printers print through the print dialog.

    Privacy

Your items, customers, bills and payments are kept in this browser on this device and never uploaded. The camera picture is read on the device and never stored or sent. Receipts go only to the printer you choose.

    Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, Shop POS Billing (barcode till, UPI and thermal receipts) shows the whole till on this device, its UPI QR code unscannable; receipts, summaries and statements as page images marked “not for use”, with their totals hidden. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded, copied, printed or shared. A Premium pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes, once it has been opened with a connection: the till, items, customers and bills are all on this device. The receipt fonts, the PDF engine and the camera’s barcode reader download the first time they are used; after that they come from the browser’s copy. Installing the site as an app keeps the page at hand.

Which barcode scanner can I use?

Any USB or Bluetooth scanner that works as a keyboard (most do, out of the box): plug it in or pair it, put the cursor in the scan box and scan. A phone or laptop camera works too with the Camera button.

How do I print on my 58 mm Bluetooth printer from an Android phone?

In Chrome, set Settings → Receipt printer → Straight to a receipt printer, connection Bluetooth, width 58 mm, then Connect the printer and pick it from the list. If it does not appear, it is probably a “classic” Bluetooth printer, which web pages cannot reach: print through the print dialog instead, with a print service app for that printer if Android asks for one.

Can I sell on credit (udhaar) and remind customers?

Yes. Choose the customer and pay On account (or part of the bill), and the rest goes on their balance. Their page on the Customers tab lists every bill and payment; Payment received records what they pay, and the WhatsApp or SMS button opens a reminder with their balance that you send yourself.

Do the bill numbers meet the GST rules?

With Financial year numbering, the numbers — your prefix, the financial year and a serial number — are consecutive, at most 16 characters of letters, digits, “-” and “/”, and restart each financial year, as rule 46(b) asks. The till warns when your prefix makes them longer, and never gives a number out twice — also across tabs.

    What happens to stock?

With Count stock on, each sale takes the quantities off the items that have a stock figure and a cancelled bill puts them back. Items at or below their warning level are listed under Items → Low on stock.

    Is a cancelled bill deleted?

No. It stays in the day’s list marked cancelled, with the reason, and its number is not given out again; it is left out of the day’s totals, and anything it put on a customer’s account comes off.
