About the Podcast RSS Feed Validator

Validate the complete podcast XML you paste or upload on this device. The tool checks XML names and namespaces, RSS channel and episode fields, Apple podcast metadata, and the current Podcast Namespace vocabulary. It keeps every episode, identifies duplicated identifiers and media declarations, and gives a location and a suggested fix for each issue. Select the actual show-cover image to check its complete decoded pixels, dimensions, color and alpha.

How to use it

  1. Paste the complete XML or select a UTF-8 XML file. Choose whether to include Apple-specific rules.
  2. Select the corresponding local artwork file to check PNG/JPEG structure and complete decoded pixels. A declared image URL does not establish its size.
  3. Validate and inspect errors, warnings and unverified remote checks separately. Copy or download the complete report with a Pro pass.

Examples

A duplicate episode identifier
Input
Two items use the same opaque GUID with isPermaLink="false".
Result
The duplicate is reported at the second item; every submitted episode is retained.

Rules and reference sources

Rules follow the RSS Advisory Board specification, XML 1.0, XML namespaces, podcast feed requirements and the Podcast Namespace. Dates use RFC 2822; recurrence and geo fields use their cited standard grammars.

Artwork checks

The show-cover requirements accept square RSS artwork from 1,400 to 3,000 pixels in PNG or JPEG. Supplied valid-size files are fully decoded and their alpha pixels are inspected. A file whose dimensions already fail is rejected before allocating its pixels.

Limitations

  • This browser tool does not fetch a visitor URL, feed, media enclosure or remote artwork. The server URL-fetch branch and its private-network protections are deferred. Upload or paste the feed and select its actual artwork file.
  • Local syntax and metadata checks do not prove hosting availability, HTTP HEAD/byte-range support, remote lengths/MIME types, publisher reciprocity, stable GUID history or directory approval. These remain unverified.
  • DTD and entity declarations are refused and never loaded. Remove the declaration and use predefined or numeric references. XML 1.0 is supported.
  • Every submitted episode is checked. A platform’s latest-episode display policy does not cap parsing here. Source-defined metadata field limits produce warnings without discarding the document.
  • Unknown future namespace extensions remain visible with a warning. Unsupported external semantics are not silently declared valid.
  • MySmartCoPilot is not affiliated with or endorsed by Apple Podcasts or Podcast Index.
  • The free preview shows counts and a shortened or masked report. Complete reports and exports require a pass.

Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, Podcast RSS Feed Validator shows the issue counts and a shortened or masked report; complete reports and exports unlock with a pass. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

Does checking a URL in the XML contact that address?

No. URLs are checked as strings. Feeds, media and remote artwork are never fetched by this browser tool.

Why are remote checks unverified when the XML has no errors?

A well-formed declaration does not prove that a host serves the declared file, length, MIME type or byte ranges. Those checks need the deferred server service.

How is artwork size verified?

Select the actual image. The tool checks its complete PNG/JPEG container and, for valid-size images, decodes all pixels and checks the dimensions and transparency. It does not infer dimensions from a URL.

Does an opaque GUID have to be a UUID?

An RSS episode GUID may be an opaque stable string when isPermaLink is false. The separate podcast:guid is the channel’s version-5 UUID; those identifiers have different rules.
