About the Lorem Ipsum Generator
Lorem ipsum is the scrambled Latin that designers and developers use to fill a layout before the real copy is ready. It looks like text but cannot be read, so people judge the design (fonts, spacing, line length) instead of the words.
Generate exactly the amount you need: paragraphs (short, medium or long), sentences, an exact number of words, or list items, as plain text or ready-to-paste HTML with <p> and <ul> tags. Every result has a seed: enter the same seed with the same settings and you get the same text again, which keeps mock-ups, screenshots and tests stable.
How to use it

Where lorem ipsum comes from
The text is based on a passage from Cicero’s De finibus bonorum et malorum (“On the ends of good and evil”, 45 BC), sections 1.10.32–33. Words were cut short, scrambled and altered, so dolorem ipsum (“pain itself”) became lorem ipsum: it reads like Latin but means nothing. It spread through dry-transfer lettering sheets in the 1960s and later through desktop publishing software.
Using placeholder text well
- Match the length of the real content: a product card needs a short line, an article page needs long paragraphs.
- Use words when a field needs an exact word count, such as a 50-word author bio.
- Use HTML output to drop paragraphs and lists straight into a prototype.
- Replace every placeholder before launch. Leftover lorem ipsum confuses readers, so search your pages for “lorem” before you publish.
Seeds and repeatable text
The generator uses a seeded pseudo-random sequence, so the same seed with the same settings produces exactly the same text in every browser. Share a seed with a teammate, keep screenshots identical between design reviews, or use fixed text in automated tests. Asking for more paragraphs keeps the earlier ones unchanged; changing the paragraph length or the unit gives new text.
Limitations
- The text is pseudo-Latin, so it does not show how real words in your language wrap or hyphenate. Do a final check with real copy.
- Up to 100 paragraphs, 500 sentences, 10,000 words or 200 list items at a time.

Frequently asked questions
What does lorem ipsum mean?
Nothing; it is deliberately meaningless. It comes from a scrambled passage by Cicero, in which dolorem ipsum means “pain itself”.
How do I get the same text again?
Note the seed shown under the result (it is also in the Seed box) and enter it again with the same settings. The text is calculated from the seed, not stored anywhere.
Can I get HTML?
Yes. Choose HTML to get paragraphs wrapped in <p> tags, or list items in a <ul> list, ready to paste into a page or prototype.
Can I use the text in commercial work?
Yes. Lorem ipsum is based on Cicero’s Latin, which is in the public domain, and there are no restrictions on using the generated text.
