About the GIF Resizer & Cropper
Change the size of an animated GIF without breaking it: every frame is drawn exactly as a browser shows it, cropped, rotated or mirrored, scaled with a high-quality filter and saved again with the original frame delays and looping. Give the new size in pixels (keeping the proportions or not), as a percentage, or pick a preset such as 128 × 128 for chat emoji or 512 × 512 for stickers; when the shape changes, choose whether the GIF fits inside with transparent edges, is cropped to fill, or is stretched.
Scaling blends colours, so instead of forcing them back into the old palette — which causes banding — the resized frames get a fresh palette (one for the whole animation, or one per frame). Pixel art stays crisp with Sharp pixels. A preview of the first frame updates as you change settings; the whole GIF is then processed in a background worker in your browser and never uploaded.
How to use it
- Choose, drop or paste a GIF.
- Under New size, enter a width and/or height in pixels, a percentage, or pick a preset. If the shape changes, choose Fit inside, Crop to fill or Stretch.
- Optional: rotate or mirror it, or tick Crop before resizing and drag the box (or type X, Y, width and height). The preview shows the first frame as it will be.
- Select Resize GIF, check the animated result, then Download.
Examples
480 × 270 · Preset 128 × 128 · Fit inside
128 × 128 GIF; the picture is 128 × 72 with transparent bands above and below
480 × 270 · Preset 128 × 128 · Crop to fill
128 × 128 GIF showing the middle 270 × 270 part of every frame
32 × 32 · Percentage 400 · Sharp pixels
128 × 128 GIF where every original pixel becomes a crisp 4 × 4 block
Common uses
- Making a square 128 × 128 emoji or a 512 × 512 sticker from a reaction GIF.
- Cropping a GIF to the part that matters, or to a square or 16:9 shape.
- Fixing a sideways GIF recorded on a phone by rotating it.
- Scaling pixel-art animations up for a website without blurring them.
Why resizing a GIF is harder than resizing a photo
Most frames of an animated GIF store only the part that changed, with transparent holes where the previous frame should show through, and each frame says what happens to it afterwards (its disposal method in the GIF89a specification). Scaling those pieces separately leaves gaps and smears. This tool first rebuilds every full frame as it appears on screen, then crops, rotates and scales the full frames, and finally optimises them again so only the changes are stored.
Shrinking averages all source pixels that fall into each new pixel (premultiplied by transparency, so edges do not darken); enlarging interpolates smoothly, or copies pixels with Sharp pixels. GIF transparency is all-or-nothing, so edge pixels that end up half-transparent become either fully visible or fully transparent.
Sizes for emoji and stickers
- Many chat apps display custom emoji at 128 × 128 or smaller; Discord’s developer documentation describes emoji uploads as 128 × 128 images.
- Discord stickers are “constrained to … 320 x 320 pixels” according to its sticker documentation.
- Square shapes work best for emoji: choose Fit inside to keep the whole picture or Crop to fill to use the full square.
File size limits are a separate matter — after resizing, use the GIF Compressor to fit a platform limit.
Limitations
- GIFs up to 100 MB, 4,096 pixels on each side and 2,000 frames; results up to 4,096 pixels on each side.
- Rotation is in 90° steps.
- GIF allows only fully visible or fully transparent pixels, so soft edges cannot be kept when resizing transparent GIFs.
- Resizing does not shrink the file to a size limit by itself — use the GIF Compressor for that.

Frequently asked questions
Will my GIF keep its speed and frames?
Yes. Every frame is kept, each with its original delay, and the loop setting is kept unless you change it. Frames that become identical after resizing are merged into one with their combined delay, which plays the same.
How do I make a GIF square without stretching it?
Choose the Preset 128 × 128 (or enter the same width and height and untick Keep proportions), then pick Fit inside to add transparent edges or Crop to fill to cut off the sides. You can also crop to a 1:1 box yourself first.
Why do the colours look slightly different?
A GIF can hold at most 256 colours. Scaling mixes neighbouring colours, so the resized GIF gets a new palette that suits the new pixels. Turn on Dithering under Colours and looping for smoother gradients, or use One per frame for GIFs whose scenes change completely.
Is the GIF uploaded?
No. It is decoded, resized and encoded by your browser on your device, and the tool works offline once the page has loaded.
