About the Cab & Rideshare Driver Earnings Calculator
Driving for an app looks like good money until the costs come off. This calculator works out what a cab, taxi or rideshare driver really takes home: the fares, tips and incentives, less the platform’s commission or subscription, fuel or charging for every km — the empty ones to pickups too — service and tyres, the car’s EMI or a fleet’s rent, insurance, permits, the phone and other costs. You see it a month, a day, a trip, an online hour and a km, how much of your time online is spent waiting, where every ₹100 a rider pays goes, the fare you need to break even and the trips a day for the take-home you want.
Switch to Track your days to log every day you drive — or read your own spreadsheet, or the earnings or trip file your app gives you (one row a day or a trip) — and get a monthly report: take-home, per hour and per trip, the best and weakest days and your best days of the week. Everything is worked out in your browser, and the log stays on your device.
Without a pass, the free preview shows the take-home a month in full, with the first rows of each table, the first step of the working and the charts marked as a preview; a Pro pass unlocks every figure, the monthly reports, the copy, the CSV and the PDF reports.
How to use it
- Choose the currency and km or miles. Under A typical day, enter the days you drive a month, the hours online, the trips, the average fare a rider pays, the distance of a trip and the distance you drive without a rider.
- Under The platform, choose whether it takes a commission, a subscription or both, and how much. Under Your car, enter the fuel, its economy and price (Indian metros’ petrol and diesel prices can be filled in), and whether the car is on a loan, rented from a fleet or paid off, with its costs.
- Read your take-home a month, a day, a trip and an hour, where the money goes, the break-even fare and the trips for your goal.
- To track real days, choose Track your days: add a day, read a CSV of your days or trips, or try the sample month. The monthly report follows the costs you entered above.
- Copy a summary, download the CSV or a PDF report, or print — with a pass, or after unlocking this result. The backup of your log and the template download whenever you like.
Examples
26 days a month, 11 hours online, 14 trips of 9 km at ₹240, 45 km a day without a rider · CNG at 26 km a kg and ₹77 · EMI ₹16,500, insurance ₹22,000 and permits ₹9,000 a year, service ₹1.20 a km · tips ₹40 and incentives ₹150 a day
Take-home ₹35,242 a month · ₹1,355 a day · ₹96.82 a trip · ₹123.23 an hour online · the platform keeps ₹17,472 · break-even fare ₹118.98 · 15.2 trips a day for ₹40,000
The platform takes ₹9,204 a month instead of ₹17,472: ₹8,268 more take-home
Rent of ₹900 a day is ₹23,400 a month, ₹6,900 more than the EMI: take-home ₹28,342
Common uses
- See what you really earn an hour once fuel, the EMI and the empty km are counted.
- Compare a commission plan with a daily subscription, or your own car with a fleet’s rent.
- Find the fare and the trips a day you need for the income you want.
- Keep a log of every day and see each month’s take-home and your best days.
How the take-home is worked out
- Fares = trips a day × the average fare × days; tips and incentives come on top.
- Platform fees = commission × fares, and/or the subscription × days, plus any GST the platform adds to its own fee.
- Distance = (trips × the distance of a trip + the distance without a rider) × days. Fuel or charging = distance × litres, kg or kWh per km × the price; service, tyres and repairs = distance × a cost per km.
- The car: the EMI a month, a fleet’s rent a day × days, or nothing for a car that is paid off (enter its loss of value to count it). Insurance and permits are spread over 12 months.
- Take-home = fares + tips + incentives − platform fees − every cost, before income tax. Tax the app deducts (TDS) is shown apart: it counts towards your income tax.
- Idle time = hours online − trips × (minutes with a rider + minutes to the pickup).
- Break-even fare = (costs + subscription − tips − incentives) ÷ (trips × (1 − commission)). Trips for a goal = the trips a day whose fares, less the platform’s cut and the cost of driving them, give that take-home.
Tracking your days
The log keeps one line a day: hours online, trips, distance, fares (what riders paid, or what the app paid you — say which), tips, incentives, platform fees if you know them, fuel bought and other costs. A file is read by its column names, in any order, with ₹ and $ signs, Indian or Western digit grouping, quoted fields and dates written as 14/10/2026, 2026-10-14 or 14 Oct 2026; a file with one row a trip is added up by day. Fuel is entered on the day it is bought: a month’s fill-ups are its fuel, shared over its days by their distance, and a month without any uses the fuel economy and price of the plan. Days without platform fees use the plan’s commission or subscription, and each month’s fixed costs — EMI, insurance, permits, phone — are taken off once.
Tax notes
In India, the GST on rides booked through an app is paid by the app as the electronic commerce operator (section 9(5) of the CGST Act), so it is not one of your costs; GST that the app adds to its own fee is. In the US, the IRS standard mileage rate for business use is 72.5 cents a mile for 1 January to 30 June 2026 and 76 cents for 1 July to 31 December 2026: with US dollars the calculator shows the deduction your work miles would give, as an alternative to deducting the car’s actual costs.

Limitations
- Every figure is yours to enter; the examples, the CNG price and the commission are starting points, not any app’s terms.
- The take-home is before income tax and social security contributions; it is not a tax computation.
- Incentives, surge and cancellations change from day to day: use averages, or track real days.

On this device: nothing is sent
Everything is calculated in your browser. The figures you enter and the days you log stay on your device; they are kept in this browser so they are there next time, and a file you read is never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Cab & Rideshare Driver Earnings Calculator shows the take-home pay a month in full, with the first rows of each table (up to 3), the first step of the working and watermarked charts; other figures are hidden. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded, copied or printed. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
How much does a cab driver earn in India after expenses?
It depends on the trips, the fares and the car’s costs. In the example on the page — 14 trips a day at ₹240 for 26 days, a CNG car on a ₹16,500 EMI and a 20% commission — ₹92,300 comes in, the platform keeps ₹17,472, the costs come to ₹39,586 and the driver takes home ₹35,242 a month, about ₹123 an hour online.
How do I work out my take-home per trip?
Add up a month’s fares, tips and incentives, take off the platform’s fees and every cost — fuel for all the km including the empty ones, service, the EMI or rent, insurance, permits, the phone — and divide by the trips. In the example it is ₹35,242 ÷ 364 trips = ₹96.82 a trip, while the average fare is ₹240.
What fare do I need to break even?
The fare at which the take-home is zero: the month’s costs and subscription, less tips and incentives, divided by the trips × what you keep of each fare after the commission. In the example it is ₹34,646 ÷ (364 × 0.8) = ₹118.98 a trip.
Is a subscription better than a commission?
Only above a certain number of trips. With a commission the platform takes a share of every fare; a subscription is a fixed amount a day. In the example, a ₹300 a day subscription with 18% GST costs ₹9,204 a month against ₹17,472 of commission, so the driver keeps ₹8,268 more; on a slow month with few trips the commission can cost less.
Do I pay GST on the fares of app rides?
In India the app pays the GST on rides booked through it, as the electronic commerce operator (section 9(5) of the CGST Act), so the fare you are paid is not reduced by it. GST charged on the app’s own commission or subscription is a cost: enter it under GST added to its fee if the app adds it.
Can I track my daily earnings and get a monthly report?
Yes: choose Track your days, add each day or read a CSV — your own spreadsheet, or the earnings or trip file your app gives you — and the tool adds the days up by month with your fixed costs. The days stay in this browser; back them up as a CSV whenever you like.
