About Reversi

A browser version of Reversi, also widely known as Othello, played on the standard 8x8 board. Place a disc so it traps a line of your opponent's discs between your new disc and another of your own, and every disc in that line flips to your colour.

Play against the built-in computer opponent, which pays attention to corners and edges. The game ends when neither side has a legal move, and whoever holds more discs wins.

How to play

  1. Click or tap a highlighted square to place a disc there.
  2. A legal move must trap at least one line of your opponent's discs between your new disc and an existing one of your colour.
  3. Every trapped disc flips to your colour immediately.
  4. If you have no legal move, your turn is skipped automatically.
  5. When neither side can move, the player with the most discs on the board wins.

Controls

  • Click or tap a highlighted square — place a disc

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I have no legal move?

Your turn is skipped automatically and play passes back to the other side, as in standard Othello rules.

Why does the computer favour the corners?

A disc in a corner can never be flipped again, so the computer opponent weighs corners and edges more heavily than the centre.
