About Checkers
A browser version of Checkers, also called draughts, played on the standard 8x8 board with the usual English-draughts rules: captures are forced when available, a piece reaching the far row becomes a king, and multi-jumps chain together automatically.
Play against the built-in computer opponent. There is no betting, no stakes and nothing to buy — just a classic board game for a short break.
How to play
- Click or tap one of your pieces, then click or tap a highlighted square to move it.
- If a capture is available, you must take it — the board only highlights legal captures when one exists.
- Jump over an opponent piece into an empty square to capture it; chain further jumps from the same piece when possible.
- A piece that reaches the far row becomes a king and can move and capture both forward and backward.
- Win by capturing all of your opponent's pieces, or by leaving them with no legal move.
Controls
- Click or tap a piece, then a highlighted square — move or capture
- Tab and Enter — keyboard play
Frequently asked questions
Is capturing really mandatory?
Yes — standard English-draughts rules force a capture whenever one is legally available for the side to move.
Can a king move backward?
Yes. A regular piece can only move and capture toward the far row, but once it is crowned a king it can move and capture in either direction.
