About Afterglow Postcard: Unread Chapters
Afterglow Postcard: Unread Chapters is an illustrated interactive story aboard the Dawnward, a night train that leaves at dusk from wherever it leaves and always arrives at dawn, wherever it is going. Its guard keeps the Timetable of Small Hours, a book with a chapter for every station the train passes in the dark, and this week five of those chapters came back blank. You are the new guard. Five passengers each remember one of the lost stations: Mrs. Brack slept through Hobb’s Halt at nineteen while a young man waited on the platform with sweet peas; Tomasz worked the signal box at Saltpan Junction for thirty-one years; Pim waits all night for the owls of Owlbridge; Dr. Vance first saw the stars from the Glass Viaduct; and Bellamy the cook fed a snowbound train in Ninefold Cutting. Sit with them in any order the night allows, though some will only talk once another station is back in the book, and write each chapter in one of three inks: gold for a beginning, blue for a farewell, green for a marvel. Every passenger hints at the ink they hope for. No single page decides the dawn: the ending reads the inks of the whole book and how many passengers found their station written the way they keep it, and pages written beside one already restored join it. Each night brings a twist, from a passenger too fast asleep to wake to a timetable printed backwards, and there is a daily challenge. The text goes up to Largest, every line is announced to screen readers, you can go back to any choice, and nothing is timed.
How to play
- Press Go on or tap the page to continue, and tap a choice (or press 1 to 5) to answer. Z or the Back button returns to your last choice.
- In the corridor, choose a passenger to sit with. A passenger who will not talk yet shows why, and opens once another chapter is back.
- Listen to their station, then write the chapter in gold, blue or green ink. Their words hint at the ink they hope for.
- Write a chapter next to one already restored to join them. The route map shows each chapter in its ink.
- When all five chapters are back the train reaches dawn, and the ending depends on the whole book. Change the text size with T or the Text button.

Frequently asked questions
How long is a story?
About fifteen to twenty-five minutes for the five chapters. There are five endings.
Does the order matter?
You can restore the chapters in any order the night allows. Some passengers will only talk once another station is back, and a chapter written beside one already restored joins it, which the score counts.
Which ink is right?
None is wrong. Each passenger hints at the ink they hope for, and the ending reads the whole book: most of it in one ink, or all three inks with three passengers honoured.
What is the score?
Pages: every chapter back, every passenger honoured, every join and the ending you reach.
Can I play with a keyboard or a screen reader?
Yes. Every line and choice is announced, every button works with the keyboard or a controller, the text goes up to Largest, and nothing is timed.
Does it save?
Yes, in this browser: the chapters you have written back, the endings you have found and your settings. Nothing is uploaded.
