About the EPF Withdrawal Calculator (India): Amount, Eligibility, Tax
Your PF can be drawn in two ways. A partial withdrawal (an advance) leaves the account open: under the Employees’ Provident Funds Scheme, 2026, which replaced the 1952 Scheme, you may take up to 100% of the eligible balance — everything above a minimum balance of 25% — for illness, education, marriage, a house or special circumstances, once you have 12 months of membership. A full withdrawal (final settlement) closes it: at 55 or later, on permanent incapacity, retrenchment, voluntary retirement or a move abroad, or 12 months after you leave a job and stay out of EPF-covered work.
Enter your passbook balances, your service and the reason, and the calculator shows what you can withdraw today, what must stay, how many claims of that kind you have left, or the date a final settlement opens. For a final settlement it adds the TDS (10%, or 20% without a PAN) and whether the money is taxable — it is when service is under five years — and your pension options: the EPS withdrawal benefit from Table-IV of the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 2026, or a scheme certificate. Everything is worked out in your browser.
How to use it
- Choose what the withdrawal is for. The first five reasons are partial withdrawals; the others are a full withdrawal of your PF.
- Enter the employee and employer shares from your EPFO passbook (with interest) and the service counted — include an earlier job only if its PF was transferred into this account.
- For a partial withdrawal, enter how many times you have already used this purpose under the 2026 Scheme (this financial year for special circumstances) and any earlier partial withdrawals in rupees.
- For a full withdrawal, enter your date of birth and your last day of employment, tick whether EPFO has your PAN, and add your EPS service and basic + DA at exit for the pension options.
- Read the amount, the conditions met or still open, the TDS and tax, and your EPS choice. Copy the summary or download it as CSV — with a pass, or after unlocking this result.
Examples
You can withdraw up to ₹3,00,000; ₹1,00,000 (25%) must stay. This is 1 of the 10 education claims allowed.
Full withdrawal open: ₹3,50,000 less ₹35,000 TDS (10%) = ₹3,15,000. Taxable, because service is under five years.
EPS: 40 months at wages capped at ₹15,000 × 3.32 (Table-IV) = a withdrawal benefit of ₹49,800, claimable 36 months after the last contribution fell due — or keep a scheme certificate instead.
Not taxed and no TDS: five years of continuous service makes the whole payout exempt.
Not open again until the next financial year; another purpose (illness, education, marriage or housing) may still be.
Partial withdrawals: the three kinds and their limits
Paragraph 46 of the 2026 Scheme replaced the many separate advance rules with three kinds — essential needs (illness, education, marriage of you or a family member), housing (buying a flat or house, a site, building, repaying a home loan, additions or repairs) and special circumstances, for which the Scheme names no particular purpose.
- What you can take: up to 100% of the Eligible Member Balance — the balance after keeping the Minimum Balance, 25% of the total contributions credited (employee’s and employer’s shares with interest). In practice, about 75% of your PF.
- Membership: 12 months of total membership for every kind. Earlier service counts under paragraph 47 when that PF was not withdrawn. A member who leaves a job before 12 months may still withdraw up to the eligible balance (paragraph 46(5)).
- How often: education up to 10 times and marriage up to 5 times during your membership, housing up to 5 times, special circumstances twice in a financial year; illness has no stated limit. The counts start afresh under the 2026 Scheme (paragraph 46(6)).
- Smallest claim: ₹1,000.
Full withdrawal: when the whole PF can be taken
Under paragraph 49 the whole balance is paid on retirement at 55 or later, on permanent and total incapacity, just before moving abroad to settle or work, on retrenchment and under a voluntary retirement scheme. Where a unit closes or you move to an establishment the Code does not cover, payment comes after two months. In any other case you may withdraw everything once you have not worked in any EPF-covered establishment for 12 months; a woman who resigns to get married need not wait. After a withdrawal on leaving, a later job makes you a fresh member, so transferring the balance to your new employer’s account is usually better.
Your pension money (EPS)
The employer’s 8.33% that goes to the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 2026 is not part of your PF balance. With less than 9½ years of EPS service (six months or more counts as a year, paragraph 9) you can take a withdrawal benefit — the wages at exit × the Table-IV factor for your months of service (12 months 1.02, 24 months 1.99, 60 months 5.02, 108 months and more 9.33) — or a scheme certificate that carries the service to your next job. The wages are the weighted average over the wage-ceiling periods of your service: ₹15,000 a month up to 16 September 2026 and ₹25,000 after (S.O. 5109(E)). If you leave before 58, the benefit can be claimed 36 months after your last contribution fell due, or at 58 if that comes first. With 9½ years or more you have earned a pension from 58 (from 50 at 4% less for each year early) and there is no withdrawal benefit.
Tax and TDS
A partial withdrawal is not taxed. TDS under section 392(7) of the Income-tax Act, 2025 applies to the accumulated balance paid when you leave.
- Exempt: after five years of continuous service — earlier employers count when their balance was transferred — or when your service ended through ill-health, contraction or closure of the employer’s business, or another cause beyond your control (Schedule XI, Part A, paragraph 8). A transfer to a new employer’s PF is never taxed.
- Taxable: otherwise the balance is taxed as if the fund had not been recognised for each year concerned (paragraph 9): the employer’s share and its interest as salary, and any deduction you took for your own contributions is reversed.
- TDS: 10% when the taxable payout is ₹50,000 or more; 20% if EPFO does not have your PAN (section 397(2)); none when you give a valid Form No. 121 declaration — only if the tax on your total income for the year is nil and, below 60, the payout itself is not more than the amount not chargeable to tax (₹4 lakh in the new regime, ₹2.5 lakh in the old; section 393(6)). A declaration without a PAN does not count (section 397(2)(f)). The Form 15G/15H (Form No. 121) checker tells you whether yours would be valid.
Limitations
- EPFO decides every claim. This calculator applies the Scheme’s rules to the figures you enter; interest for the current year is added by EPFO at settlement.
- The Scheme counts the 25% minimum balance on all contributions and interest credited. Enter earlier partial withdrawals to include them; the amount EPFO shows when you file the claim is the one that counts.
- The EPS wages are split month by month into the wage-ceiling periods, with the wage of earlier periods taken as the lower of your wage at exit and that ceiling. September 2026 is counted in the ₹25,000 period.
- Private PF trusts of exempted establishments, international workers (paragraph 51) and claims on a member’s death are not covered.
- The tax estimate is rough: the real tax is worked out year by year as if the fund had not been recognised. Use the income tax calculator for the year of the payout.

Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, EPF Withdrawal Calculator (India): Amount, Eligibility, Tax shows the PF amount you can withdraw in full, with the conditions you meet, the tax rules and the first rows of each table; every other figure is hidden. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
How much of my PF can I withdraw?
Up to the whole eligible balance — your PF less a minimum balance of 25% of the contributions and interest credited, so about 75% — for illness, education, marriage, housing or special circumstances, after 12 months of membership. The whole PF comes out only in a final settlement: at 55 or later, on incapacity, retrenchment, voluntary retirement or a move abroad, or 12 months after leaving a job.
Can I withdraw 100% of my PF while I am still working?
No. A partial withdrawal always leaves the 25% minimum balance in the account. The whole balance is paid only on one of the final-settlement grounds of paragraph 49.
How long after leaving a job can I withdraw my full PF?
Twelve months without work in any EPF-covered establishment. A woman who resigns to get married need not wait. In the meantime you can still take a partial withdrawal, and you can always transfer the balance to a new employer’s account.
Is TDS deducted on PF withdrawal?
Only on a final settlement that is taxable — when continuous service is under five years — and only when the payout is ₹50,000 or more: 10% with your PAN, 20% without. A partial withdrawal has no TDS. A valid Form No. 121 declaration stops the TDS when your tax for the year is nil; below 60 it covers a payout of at most ₹4 lakh (₹2.5 lakh in the old regime), and it never counts without a PAN.
What happens to my EPS pension money when I leave?
With less than 9½ years of EPS service you can take the withdrawal benefit from Table-IV — 36 months after your last contribution fell due, or at 58 — or keep a scheme certificate so that the service counts in your next job. With 9½ years or more you have earned a pension from 58 instead.
How many times can I withdraw for education or marriage?
Education up to 10 times and marriage up to 5 times during your membership; housing up to 5 times; special circumstances twice in a financial year. The counts start afresh under the 2026 Scheme.
