About the Habit Tracker & Streak Calendar (private, printable)
Keep track of the small things you want to do every day or every week: yes/no habits (meditate, no sugar, sleep by 23:00) and habits with an amount (read 20 pages, drink 8 glasses, walk 30 minutes). Tick a day and the tracker counts your current and best streak, how much of the last 30 days you managed, and colours a year heat map — darker for days you reached the target, lighter for days you got part of the way.
Each habit can be due every day, on chosen weekdays (gym on Monday, Wednesday and Friday) or a number of days a week (“3 days a week”, whichever days they are). Start a 21, 30, 66 or 90-day challenge, strict or not, write a short note on any day, and print a monthly habit sheet for the fridge or a journal — blank to tick by hand, or filled in with what you have done. Everything is saved in this browser on this device; nothing is uploaded and you don’t need an account.
How to use it
- Press New habit, or pick one of the suggestions to start. Give it a name, choose Yes / no or An amount (with a daily target such as 20 pages), and choose when it is due.
- Each day, tick the habits you did under Today (or type the amount and press +). Use the arrows beside the date to log yesterday or an earlier day you missed.
- Open a habit to see its streaks, the month calendar (tap a day to tick or untick it), the year heat map and a note for the chosen day.
- Under Print, back up and remind, download the monthly sheet as a PDF, export every logged day as CSV, save a backup file, or download calendar reminders for your phone.
Examples
No sugar · ticked 1–3 and 5–7 October, today is 8 October
3-day streak (tick today to keep it) · best 3 days · last 30 days: 6 of 7
The missed 4 October ended the first run. Today does not count as missed until it is over.
Exercise, 3 days a week, weeks starting Monday · done Mon, Wed, Fri in each of the last two weeks and on Tuesday this week
2-week streak · 2 more days needed this week
Read, 20 pages a day · 12 pages logged today
Not done yet: 12 of 20 pages (the heat map shows a lighter square)
Started 1 October · missed 4 October
Restarted on 5 October · day 4 of 21 on 8 October
Common uses
- Building a morning routine: water, stretching, reading and journaling, ticked in one place.
- A 30-day or 90-day challenge with a clear count of the days done.
- Gym or practice sessions on set weekdays, or a few times a week on whatever days suit.
- A printed monthly sheet for children’s chores or a bullet journal.
How streaks are counted
- Every day: the streak is the number of days in a row the habit was done. Today counts once it is ticked; until the day is over, yesterday’s streak still stands (the page says it is at risk).
- Chosen weekdays: only those days are due. The days in between are skipped: they neither break the streak nor add to it, and a tick on a day that is not due is kept but not counted.
- Days a week: each week that reaches its number of days counts once, so the streak is in weeks. The week starts on the first day of the week in your country (you can change it), and the first week of a new habit needs only as many days as were left in it.
- Amounts: a day counts when the amount reaches the daily target. Less than the target is kept and shown, but does not count for the streak.
- Nothing before a habit’s start day counts. Change the start day to log earlier days.
Challenges
A challenge runs for a set number of days from the day you choose, with every day due, so it is for a habit due every day (a habit with rest days keeps its own streak instead). In a strict challenge a missed day starts it again on the next day, so only an unbroken run completes it; otherwise the page counts how many of the days you did. The habit’s card shows the day you are on, the days done and the days left.
Reminders
- Calendar reminders: give a habit a reminder time and download the calendar file (.ics). Your phone’s or computer’s calendar then rings at that time on the habit’s days, even when this page is closed. The file uses the standard iCalendar format (RFC 5545) with a repeating event and an alarm for each habit.
- Browser notifications: switch them on and allow them when the browser asks. They ring only while this page is open in a tab, and only for habits not yet done that day; a closed page cannot wake itself up without a server, which this tool does not use. Some browsers (on iPhone, for example, outside an installed web app) do not offer notifications to web pages at all.
Printing, exporting and moving to another device
- Monthly sheet (PDF): one landscape page for up to 16 habits, with a box for every due day (a dash marks days a habit is not due), weekends shaded, a total column and lines for notes. Choose a blank sheet or one filled in with what you have ticked.
- CSV: every logged day with the habit, the value, the target, whether it counted as done and the note, for a spreadsheet.
- Backup: one .json file with all habits, days and notes. Open it with Restore from backup on another device or browser to carry on there; restoring replaces what that browser has.
Limitations
- Your habits are kept only in this browser on this device. Clearing the browser’s site data deletes them, and they do not sync: use the backup file to keep a copy or to move them.
- Browser notifications work only while the page is open; use the calendar file for reminders at other times.
- Up to 30 active habits, and about ten years of days for each.
- The tracker records what you tick; it does not judge or rank habits, and it does not block apps or websites.
Privacy
Habits, ticks, amounts and notes are saved in this browser’s local storage on this device and never leave it: nothing is uploaded, and you don’t need an account. Backups, CSV files, the PDF and the calendar file are made in your browser and saved where you choose. Delete all data removes everything this page has saved.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to my streak if I forget to tick a day?
Tick it later: use the arrows beside the date (or tap the day in the month calendar) to log a past day, and the streak is counted again. Only a day that really was not done breaks a streak, and today is never counted as missed while it lasts.
Can I track a habit that is not every day?
Yes. Choose Chosen weekdays (for example Monday, Wednesday and Friday) or Days a week (for example 3), and the streak follows that schedule: days that are not due never break it, and weekly targets count in weeks.
How do I print a habit tracker?
Under Print, back up and remind, choose the month and the paper (A4 or US Letter), tick Fill in the days I have done if you want them filled, and download the PDF. A blank sheet is handy for ticking by hand on the fridge or in a planner.
Is a 21-day or 66-day challenge better?
Neither length is magic: habits settle at different speeds for different people and habits. Pick a length that feels like a real commitment, and use a strict challenge if you want a missed day to start you again.
Can I use it on my phone and computer?
Each browser keeps its own copy, because nothing is uploaded. Save a backup on one device and restore it on the other to move your habits; after that, they are separate until you do it again.
How is this different from the To-Do List’s habits?
The To-Do List has simple daily habits next to your tasks. This tracker adds amounts with targets, weekday and weekly schedules, challenges, notes, a year heat map, reminders and the printable monthly sheet.
