How it helps
Start a song in the key you need
Every one of the 144 progressions is in all 12 keys, so you never transpose by hand: pick a mood, open the progression's folder and drag the file for your key onto an instrument track. The file names say the key, the tempo and the version, and the index lets you sort the whole pack by mood, key, tempo or numerals in a spreadsheet.
Written for pop and R&B
The Pop moods run from bright add9 and sus choruses to bittersweet borrowed chords, euphoric builds, dreamy major sevenths, melancholic minor ballads and tense harmonic-minor turns. The R&B moods bring ninths, elevenths and thirteenths: silky two-five-ones, after-hours minor vamps, slow jams, gospel walk-ups and passing diminished chords, heartbroken minor cadences and sunny Dorian grooves. Every progression was written for this pack and checked against all the others, so no two are the same loop, in any key or mode.
Voicings that move like a player's hands
Each chord has a bass note and four notes above it, chosen so that every voice moves as little as it can from chord to chord, 1.3 semitones on average, with the top voice the smoothest line of all. The loop is closed too: the last chord leads back into the first. Each key is voiced on its own inside the same range, so no key sits too high or too low.
Chords and Groove, for every key
Chords holds every chord for its full length: the cleanest start for your own rhythm, a pad, strings or an arpeggiator. Groove plays the same notes in one of 14 rhythms made for the progression, from a pushed pop chorus to slow-jam triplets and swung sixteenths. The chord names are in the files as markers, for the apps that show them.
Hear it, then read it
Each progression has an audio preview in its home key, so you can hear all 144 before you choose. The chart shows each one as numerals, a piano roll and its chords in all 12 keys, in a light edition for printing and a dark one for your screen. The guide explains the numerals, the folders and how to bring the files into eight music apps.
Yours to use in your music
The commercial licence covers what producers do: use the progressions as they are or changed in your own songs, beats, remixes and live sets and in music for clients; record, release, sell, stream and broadcast that music, and put it in videos, podcasts, games and apps, with no royalty to pay and no credit needed. What you may not do is pass on the files themselves, as they are or changed, as MIDI files, loops or a pack for others.

Questions
Which music apps does it work with?
Any app that opens Standard MIDI Files (.mid). We made the files for FL Studio, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, GarageBand, Cubase, REAPER, BandLab and MuseScore, and the guide gives the steps for each, taken from each app's own manual.
Can I use these progressions in songs I release and sell?
Yes. Under the commercial licence you may use them, as they are or changed, in your own music and in music for clients, and release, sell, stream and broadcast that music with no royalty to pay.
Do I have to credit MySmartCoPilot?
No. No credit is needed in the music you make.
Can I share or sell the MIDI files themselves?
No. The files, the audio previews, the chart and the index may not be passed on, as they are or changed, as MIDI files, loops, a sample or MIDI pack, a template or a kit for others.
What is the difference between Chords and Groove?
Chords holds every chord for its full length; Groove plays the same notes in a rhythm made for the progression. Both are in every key.
Are the audio previews in every key?
Each progression has one preview, in its home key, so you can hear it before you choose. The MIDI files are in all 12 keys.
Do the files hold sounds?
No. A MIDI file holds notes, not sound: put it on a track with an instrument, such as a piano, keys, a pad or a synth, and change the sound as you like.
Will a file change my project's tempo?
Each file carries its tempo, and its name says it, but a MIDI file counts its notes in beats, so the notes follow whatever tempo your project plays at. If your app asks whether to take the file's tempo, keep your own.
What if a file does not open?
Write to us at support@mysmartcopilot.com and we will help or send you a corrected file. Fixes of this edition are free from your order page.
