How it helps
Sixty puzzles in three levels
Every puzzle has a page of its own, a theme of its own and a word list made for it. The 20 Easy puzzles hide their words across and down only, most of them in 12 by 12 grids with the biggest letters of the book. The 20 Medium puzzles add the diagonals but never run backwards. The 20 Hard puzzles use all eight directions, backwards too, so the whole family can start where it likes and work up.
Hidden messages and shaped grids
On every Hard puzzle, the letters that belong to no word spell a hidden message once all the words are found, read row by row from the top. Some are wishes for the season and some are facts, such as where Carols by Candlelight began. Twelve puzzles take the shapes of Christmas, from a tree with a gold star to a candle with its flame.
Christmas at home and around the world
The themes run from Christmas morning, cookies and cocoa to the Twelve Days of Christmas, the Nativity in the words of the World English Bible, The Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol, and on to Christmas in India, the sweets of Goa and Mangalore, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, Italy, Sweden and Australia. The words of these puzzles were checked against public sources, listed in the book with the day they were read.
Made for printing
The download holds the same book for A4 and for US Letter. Print one puzzle or all of them at actual size; every page works in colour and in black and white, and nothing is printed within 12 mm of the edge, so home printers print each page whole. Copies for your own household or your own class are part of the licence.
Every answer, checked twice
Each grid was made by our own program and then solved again by a second, separate program that reads the printed pages. It found every word exactly once, in a direction its level uses, read every hidden message from the leftover letters, and matched every loop on the answer pages. Every grid was also searched in all eight directions so that no rude word is spelled by accident.

Which file should I print?
The book for your paper: A4 or US Letter. Both hold the same 80 pages. Print at actual size (100 %).
How hard are the puzzles?
Easy puzzles hide words across and down only, Medium puzzles add diagonals, and Hard puzzles use all eight directions and hide a message in the leftover letters. Most Easy grids are 12 by 12, with the biggest letters in the book.
What is a hidden message?
On a Hard puzzle, every letter that is not part of a listed word belongs to a message. Find all the words, then read the letters left over row by row from the top left.
Are the answers included?
Yes. Every answer is at the back of the book, four to a page, with every word looped and every hidden message written out. Each puzzle page names the page of its answer.
Can I print copies for my family or my class?
Yes. The personal licence includes printing copies for your own household or your own class. It does not allow sharing, uploading or selling the files.
Can I solve the puzzles on a tablet?
Yes, in any PDF app that lets you draw or highlight on a page. The book is made to be printed, so most people print the pages they want.
What if I find a mistake?
