A MealBox product manager says that only 0.4 % of customers have told support they have a disability, so accessibility work can wait behind the rest of the roadmap. How do you respond, and what do you propose instead?
- What it tests
- Questioning what a number measures, reframing disability as a mismatch across permanent, temporary and situational limits, and turning the case into a small, ordered plan with evidence.
- First step
- Ask what the 0.4 % counts and whom it leaves out. Then pick one flow that every customer must pass and list the demands its steps make, so that the conversation is about the flow rather than about a share of customers.
- Follow-ups
-
- The manager asks what the work is worth in revenue. What can you honestly estimate?
- Which three changes would you put first, and why those?
- How would you show progress after one quarter?

Ward Desk's team proposes a separate accessible version of its complaint form, linked from the footer, so that the main form can keep its drag-to-place map pin and its photo-only description step. What do you advise?
- What it tests
- Knowing when WCAG accepts an alternate version, weighing the cost of two forms drifting apart, and seeing who never looks for a footer link.
- First step
- Read the conditions WCAG sets for a conforming alternate version, then ask who would use the footer link and who would never know it is there. Compare that with what it would take to remove the two demands from the main form.
- Follow-ups
-
- The vendor says the main form cannot change before the city's deadline. What then?
- How would you find out whether residents use the alternate form?
- Is there ever a good reason for a separate version?
