In one week you apply to the same company for a backend role and a data role, each with its own tailored resume. How do you keep both honest and consistent, and what do you say when the recruiter notices both?
- What it tests
- Building versions from one source of true lines, keeping facts identical across versions, and explaining two applications to one employer without sounding unfocused.
- First step
- Build both versions from the same bullet bank, so that a line appearing in both is word for word the same and every number matches its record. Then decide, before any call, the one sentence that says why each role fits and which work each version draws on.
- Follow-ups
-
- The two versions show the same internship with different dates. What went wrong?
- Would you send the same resume to both roles instead?
- The recruiter asks which role you would choose. What do you say?

A keyword tool says your resume names 6 of a posting's 13 terms. A friend suggests pasting the posting's terms in white text at the bottom. What do you do instead, and how far can honest tailoring raise the count?
- What it tests
- Knowing what a keyword count measures and what extraction shows, and raising coverage only with true lines chosen and reworded from a bullet bank.
- First step
- Say why the white text fails: extracted text includes it, so every reader of the parsed text sees a list of words. Then go through the 7 missing terms one by one, asking for each whether a true bank line shows it under another name, shows it but was left out, or does not exist.
- Follow-ups
-
- Three of the missing terms have no bank line at all. Now what?
- The tool counts "Postgres" as missing. Is that a gap?
- Would you add the missing terms to your skills line?

Your campus form shows one backlog, cleared a semester later, and the interviewer asks about it. What do you say, and what does your resume show about it?
- What it tests
- Owning a weak point honestly, and knowing which document carries the record and which carries the evidence.
- First step
- Start with the record the interviewer is reading: check that the form states the backlog exactly as your college's records do, and when it was cleared. Then note what you can show from the semesters since, such as your grades or a project.
- Follow-ups
-
- The interviewer asks why you failed in the first place. How much do you say?
- Should the resume mention the backlog at all?
- What if the backlog is still active when you apply?

A company's cut-off is a CGPA of 8.0, yours is 7.9, and a senior tells you that everyone rounds up on the form. What do you enter, and how do you still compete for roles like this one?
- What it tests
- Honesty on records that are checked, judgement about where effort pays, and a plan to strengthen evidence instead of changing a number.
- First step
- Enter 7.9: the form asks for your record exactly as the college states it, and the placement cell can check it. Then look at the season as a whole, starting from the companies whose rules you do meet.
- Follow-ups
-
- The company's notice lets the cell enforce the cut-off and never reads it again. Does that change anything?
- How do you find roles that weigh projects more than marks?
- Would you mention the cut-off in an off-campus application to the same company?

A training company offers you a course with a "placement promise" if you pay a large fee before your final year. How do you judge the offer, and what would you use instead?
- What it tests
- Recognising misleading claims of selection and job security, checking written terms, and knowing the help that charges nothing.
- First step
- Ask for the promise in writing, with what happens to the fee if no job follows, and compare it with what India's 2024 coaching guidelines call misleading: false claims of selection or job security. Then list the no-fee alternatives: the placement cell, the National Career Service, GitHub Education and your own projects.
- Follow-ups
-
- The company shows a list of students it says it placed. What do you check?
- A senior recommends it. Does that change your answer?
- When is a paid course worth it at all?

After eight years as a test engineer you are moving into data analysis. The interviewer asks why they should hire you over a computer science graduate. How do you answer, using what your resume shows?
- What it tests
- Turning experience from another field into evidence for the new one, naming proofs with numbers, and being honest about what you still have to learn.
- First step
- Start from the two proofs your summary gives, each with its number, then name what your years in the old field add that a graduate lacks, told as outcomes rather than duties. End with the one gap you are still closing and how.
- Follow-ups
-
- The graduate knows more statistics than you do. What do you say?
- Why are you leaving engineering at all?
- Would you take a junior title?

Your resume shows a two-year career break for family care. The interviewer asks whether your skills are out of date. What do you say, and what on your resume backs it?
- What it tests
- Answering a concern about a gap with evidence rather than reassurance, and keeping the explanation short and finished.
- First step
- Acknowledge the question in one sentence, then point to what is current and checkable: a course finished during the break, a recent project or test suite with a link, the tools of the posting you have used since. Then ask what the team uses, so the conversation moves to the work.
- Follow-ups
-
- You did nothing technical during the break. Now what?
- Should the break line say why the family needed you?
- The gap was a layoff, not a choice. Does the answer change?

Senior to staff
You have 19 years of experience and a three-page resume of 46 bullets. Which roles do you cut or shorten to reach two pages, and how do you make the remaining bullets show seniority?
- What it tests
- Applying the 15-year rule and length limits with judgement, and writing bullets that show scope, decisions and their cost.
- First step
- Start from the dates: list each role with the year it ended, and mark those that ended more than 15 years ago, which Canada's Job Bank says to cut out or minimise. Then count the printed lines the remaining bullets take, so you know how far three pages are from two.
- Follow-ups
-
- Your best achievement is in the role you cut to one line. What now?
- Would you use a summary at this level?
- How do you show leadership if you never managed people?
