After pulling main, Asha's build fails because the theme submodule is still the old version, and Ravi, who cloned the project yesterday, has an empty theme folder. Explain both, fix them, and change the team's setup so it stops happening.
- What it tests
- Knowing that a pull updates the gitlink but not the submodule's checkout, that a plain clone leaves submodules uninitialised, and which commands and settings fix both.
- First step
- Run git submodule status in both clones. A leading + means the checked-out commit is not the one the parent pins (Asha); a leading - means the submodule was never initialised (Ravi).
- Follow-ups
-
- Asha has commits of her own inside the submodule.
- CI shows the same empty folder.
- The theme has a submodule of its own, and it is empty too.
