About the Poultry Batch Register (broiler and layer: FCR, eggs, profit)

A register for a poultry farm that runs in your browser and keeps everything on your own device. Add each batch — broiler chicks, a laying flock or other birds — with its shed, breed, hatchery, the birds placed, the date and their age then. Every day, write the birds that died and those culled, the feed issued, the water drunk and its pH, and for layers the eggs collected by grade. Weigh a sample of birds when you like: each bird’s weight gives the average, the CV% and the uniformity.

From those entries the register keeps each batch’s birds alive, mortality and liveability, feed a bird, FCR and EPEF (estimated at the last weighing, final once the birds are sold), and for layers the hen-day and hen-housed production, eggs per hen and feed per dozen eggs. A vaccination and medicine log follows a schedule you can edit, with reminders for your calendar; expenses and sales — eggs by the tray, birds by the kg, culls and manure, at your own prices — give each batch’s profit, a contract batch’s growing charge by your contract’s terms, and buyers’ accounts with sale slips for a slip printer. In the free preview, reports, slips and statements show as marked page images; a Pro pass gives the clean documents.

How to use it

  1. Under Batches, add a batch: broilers or layers, the code, the shed, the birds placed, the date and their age then (0 for day-old chicks), the price of a chick, whether you grow for yourself or on contract, and the vaccination schedule it starts from.
  2. Every day, open Daily entry and fill in each batch’s card: dead, culled, feed issued, water and pH, and eggs by grade. Enter moves to the next box.
  3. Use Weigh birds each week for the average weight, CV% and uniformity; record each vaccine or medicine under Health as you give it — the product, its batch number, how it was given and the dose as written on the label.
  4. Record expenses and sales under Sales & costs: eggs by the tray, dozen or piece, birds by the kg, culls, manure and the company’s growing charge. Buyers who pay later keep an account; the slip shows their balance (without a pass, slips stay a free preview).
  5. Open a batch for its FCR, EPEF, egg production, week-by-week table, schedule and profit, and its Batch report; with a Pro pass you print or download the report as a PDF.

Examples

A broiler batch, sold at 36 and 37 days
Input
1,000 chicks · 20 dead and 10 culled · 970 birds sold weighing 1,987 kg · 3,850 kg of feed
Result
Liveability 97.00% · FCR 3,850 ÷ 1,987 = 1.938 · average 2.048 kg · EPEF 281 at the birds’ average age at sale (36.48 days)
Its profit
Input
Chicks 40,000 · feed 3,850 kg at 35 = 134,750 · medicines 5,000 · birds sold at 100 a kg
Result
Income 198,700 − costs 179,750 = profit 18,950 · cost 90.46 a kg sold
The same batch on contract
Input
Growing charge 6.00 a kg; standard FCR 1.90; 0.10 a kg added or taken off for each 0.01 of FCR; deaths allowed 5%
Result
FCR 1.938 is 3 whole steps worse: 5.70 a kg × 1,987 kg = 11,325.90; 30 birds lost, within the 50 allowed
A week of a laying flock
Input
1,000 hens housed · one died on day 3 and one on day 6 · 6,156 eggs · 770 kg of feed, every day entered
Result
Hen-days 6,995 · hen-day production 88.01% · hen-housed 87.94% · 110.1 g of feed a hen a day · 1.501 kg of feed per dozen
An egg sale on credit
Input
50 trays of 30 at 165 a tray to a shop that owed nothing; 5,000 paid now
Result
Slip: 1,500 eggs · 8,250 · paid 5,000 · balance due 3,250, carried to the shop’s account

Common uses

  • A broiler farmer who wants each batch’s FCR, EPEF and cost per kg before selling, and its profit after.
  • A contract grower checking the integrator’s growing charge against the contract’s own FCR and mortality terms.
  • A layer farm keeping daily eggs by grade, hen-day production, feed per dozen and the accounts of shops that buy on credit.
  • Keeping one vaccination and medicine log, with batch numbers and withdrawal dates, for the vet or a buyer who asks for it.

How the figures are worked out

  • Birds alive = birds placed − dead − culled − birds sold (culled birds you sell left the flock when you recorded them as culled). Mortality = dead ÷ birds placed; liveability = birds that did not die or get culled ÷ birds placed.
  • FCR = feed eaten ÷ live weight and EPEF = liveability (%) × average weight (kg) ÷ (age in days × FCR) × 100 (Ross Broiler Management Handbook, Appendix 4). While birds are in the shed they are estimated at the last weighing: the feed eaten to that day ÷ (birds alive that day × their average weight + the live weight sold by then). Once every bird is sold or the batch is closed they come from the live weight sold, at the birds’ average age at sale.
  • CV% = standard deviation ÷ average weight × 100 and uniformity = the share of birds within ±10% of the average (same handbook, section 3), when each bird is weighed.
  • Hen-day production = eggs ÷ the hens alive each day, added up, × 100; hen-housed production = eggs ÷ (hens housed × days) × 100, both counted over the days entered from the first day with eggs: a day not entered yet (this morning, before the eggs are counted) is left out rather than counted as a day without eggs (Poultry Hub Australia, poultry husbandry terms).
  • What buyers still owe for a batch’s sales counts their later payments too: a buyer’s payments settle the oldest of their debts first.

Vaccination schedules and the health log

  • Each batch keeps its own schedule — the items, the ages in days and how each is given — copied from the template you choose. The dates follow from the placement date and the birds’ age then; items whose ages had passed before the birds came are marked as the hatchery’s or the rearing farm’s.
  • Two templates come from the TNAU Agritech Portal (Tamil Nadu Agricultural University): its vaccination programme for broiler chicken, and its schedule for birds kept up to 40 weeks. New batches start from them on farms in India; elsewhere choose one under Settings, or make your own from your hatchery’s chick card or your veterinarian’s plan and name its source.
  • The log records what you gave as you write it: the product and its batch number, how it was given, the dose as written on the label or by your veterinarian, and the withdrawal date you were told. The register never suggests a product or a dose.
  • Reminders (.ics) puts everything still to give into Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook, with a reminder the evening before.

Feed, costs and profit

  • Feed issued each day is the feed eaten for FCR. Feed bought for one batch is its cost; feed bought for the whole farm (a store) is costed for a batch of your own that bought none at the average price of the store’s purchases (a contract batch’s feed comes from the company).
  • A batch’s profit = its sales and other income − its expenses (chicks or pullets, feed, vaccines and medicines, litter, power, labour, transport, repairs). Cost a kg = expenses ÷ live weight sold; for layers, cost per dozen eggs = expenses ÷ (eggs ÷ 12).
  • Every price is yours: the register has no market or company rates.

Contract batches and the growing charge

Type your contract’s terms in the batch: the base charge a kg of live weight, the standard FCR, what is added or taken off a kg for each whole step of FCR better or worse (0.01 unless you say otherwise), the deaths allowed and the charge for each bird beyond them, and any lowest or highest rate. Record the birds the company lifts with their live weight; the register works out the growing charge line by line and shows it beside what the company has paid. Contracts differ: where yours counts something else, record the company’s statement as it is.

Sale slips, buyers and slip printers

  • Each egg or bird sale gets a numbered slip: the eggs (trays and loose eggs) or birds and live weight, the rate and amount, what was paid now and, for a buyer with an account, the balance before and after. Slips can carry their headings in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Telugu or Kannada beside the English.
  • Print dialog: the slip is drawn at the roll’s own size (58 or 80 mm). Straight to the printer: in Chrome or Edge the register sends it to most 58 and 80 mm receipt printers that understand ESC/POS, over Bluetooth Low Energy or, on a computer, a serial port. Print a test slip first.
  • A buyer’s page shows every sale and payment with the running balance, a statement, and — with their phone number — a reminder that opens WhatsApp or your SMS app, one buyer at a time, for you to send.

Your data stays on this device

  • Batches, entries, weighings, the health log, sales, expenses and buyers are kept in this browser on this device (IndexedDB). Nothing is uploaded, and you don’t need an account.
  • Set a passcode under Data & backup to keep the register encrypted (AES-256) and locked when you step away.
  • Clearing the browser’s site data deletes the register: make an encrypted backup regularly (the register reminds you) and restore it on another device to move the farm there. Your own data also comes out as CSV files, and daily entries and buyers can be brought in from a spreadsheet.

A privacy notice for buyers (India)

Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 a farm that keeps its buyers’ names and phone numbers is the Data Fiduciary for them, and section 5 asks for a notice when consent is requested: the personal data and the purpose, how to withdraw consent and use the grievance process, and how to complain to the Data Protection Board, in English or a language of the Eighth Schedule. Rule 3 of the DPDP Rules, 2025 asks for an itemised description in clear and plain language. The template under Settings → Privacy notice for buyers is filled in with your farm and contact. It is a starting point, not legal advice: have a lawyer review it.

Limitations

  • One device: the register does not sync between devices. Two tabs on the same device share it safely; to move to another device, restore an encrypted backup there.
  • Weights, feed and eggs are typed in: it does not read scales, feeders or egg counters.
  • No market, feed or company prices: every rate is the one you type.
  • It records vaccines and medicines as you write them and does not suggest or check any product, dose or withdrawal period.
  • Screens are in English; reports and slips can add headings in six Indian languages.
  • Direct printing needs Chrome or Edge and a printer that understands ESC/POS; others print through the print dialog.

Privacy

Batches, entries, sales, buyers and the health log are kept in this browser on this device and never uploaded. Slips and reports go only to the printer you choose, and reminders to buyers are sent from your own phone.

Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, Poultry Batch Register (broiler and layer: FCR, eggs, profit) shows the whole register on this device, with batch reports, sale slips and statements as page images marked “MySmartCoPilot preview · not for use”. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded, copied, printed or shared. A Pro or Premium pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes, once the page has been opened with a connection: the register and every entry are on this device. The PDF engine and its fonts download the first time a document is made.

Why is the FCR marked “estimated”?

While birds are still in the shed, their live weight is not known exactly: the register multiplies the birds alive on the day of the last weighing by its average weight, adds the live weight already sold, and divides the feed eaten to that day by it. Weigh a good sample from several places in the shed for a close estimate; once every bird is sold, the FCR comes from the live weight sold.

How do I record birds the company lifts on a contract batch?

Open the batch and press Birds lifted: the number of birds and their live weight, with no rate. The register then works out the growing charge from your contract’s terms. When the company pays, record it under Sales & costs → Other sale → Growing charge received.

Can I use my hatchery’s vaccination schedule?

Yes. Under Health → Schedule templates, copy a template or make a new one with your hatchery’s items and ages, name its source, and choose it under Settings for new batches. Each batch keeps its own copy, which you can edit from the batch.

How are eggs in hand counted?

Saleable eggs collected (by the grades you mark as sold) less the eggs sold. Cracked and broken eggs are recorded but not counted as saleable.

Can I bring in my records from Excel?

Yes, for daily entries and buyers: save the sheet as CSV with the columns of the template under Data & backup → Import, and the rows go into the batches with those codes. Every record can also leave the register as a CSV file.
