Cost is what the units still held cost, first in first out, with stamp duty. XIRR counts every purchase, redemption (after STT) and IDCW payout, and the value on the statement’s date.

Sales matched to purchases, lot by lot
| Scheme | Units | Bought | Sold | Sale value | Cost used | Gain |

Earlier years (matched, not split by category)
Schemes
Check each scheme’s tax category: equity-oriented funds keep 65% or more in Indian shares (a fund of funds counts only if it keeps 90% or more in an ETF that does so); debt funds keep more than 65% in debt and money-market instruments. For equity-fund units bought before 1 February 2018, enter the NAV on 31 January 2018 from AMFI’s NAV history.
What a regular plan costs
A regular plan pays a distributor’s commission out of a higher expense ratio than the direct plan of the same scheme. Enter both expense ratios under Schemes (AMFI publishes them); the projection also needs a yearly return you assume.
No expense ratios entered yet.

About the Mutual Fund CAS Analyzer (India): XIRR, Capital Gains, Allocation
The Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) from CAMS or KFintech lists every purchase, SIP, switch and redemption in your mutual fund folios — but not your return, your capital gains or what a regular plan costs you. This tool reads the statement PDF in your browser (its password is typed here and used only to open the file) and works them out.
You get your holdings with the cost of the units still held, the XIRR of each scheme and of the whole portfolio, first-in, first-out capital gains for FY 2025-26 and Tax Year 2026-27 split the way the tax return asks — with the 31 January 2018 grandfathering for equity funds — the allocation by tax category, fund house and plan, and the yearly cost of regular plans against their direct plans.
Without a pass, the free preview shows the XIRR of your whole portfolio in full, with the first rows of each table; a Premium pass unlocks every figure and the allocation, and lets you download everything as an Excel workbook, or the gains lot by lot as CSV.
How to use it
- Request the detailed statement from CAMS or KFintech (either covers the funds of both registrars) for the period from your first investment, and choose a password. Open the PDF here and type that password.
- Check the tax category of each scheme under Schemes — equity-oriented, debt, or other (gold, international, most funds of funds). For equity-fund units bought before 1 February 2018, enter the NAV on 31 January 2018. Open Transactions read on a scheme to compare it line by line with your statement.
- Read the portfolio value and XIRR, the holdings, the allocation and the capital gains of the year you choose. For regular plans, enter the expense ratios of the plan and its direct plan to see the difference.
- Copy the summary, download the Excel workbook (holdings, transactions, gains by year, gains lot by lot, units held, allocation) or the gains CSV for your return — with a pass, or after unlocking this result.
Examples
500 units bought 10 Jan 2017 at ₹20 · 300 units redeemed 20 Jun 2025 for ₹12,000 · NAV on 31 Jan 2018: ₹30
Long-term: cost = higher of ₹6,000 and the lower of 300 × ₹30 and ₹12,000 = ₹9,000 · gain ₹3,000 (₹6,000 without the 31 January 2018 NAV)
20 units at ₹2,500 with ₹2.50 stamp duty · 10 units redeemed 15 Jul 2025 for ₹27,000
Cost ₹25,001.25 (half the stamp duty) · gain ₹1,998.75, short-term at your slab rates although held for two years
What the statement must be
Use the detailed CAS that CAMS or KFintech emails you as a PDF: it has every transaction. A summary statement has only holdings, so it gives no XIRR or gains. Ask for the period from your first investment: a statement that starts with units already held has no record of what they cost, and that scheme’s gains and XIRR cannot be worked out. The statement is protected with the password you chose when you requested it (KFintech, CAMS). A demat statement from NSDL or CDSL lists holdings only and is not read here; units held in a demat account are not in the registrars’ statement either.
How the capital gains are worked out
Units are matched first in, first out, folio by folio and scheme by scheme (section 67(7) of the Income-tax Act, 2025; section 45(2A) of the 1961 Act), with the lot engine of the FIFO capital gains calculator:
- Equity-oriented funds — 65% or more in Indian shares, aggressive hybrid funds included; a fund of funds only when it keeps 90% or more in an ETF that keeps 90% or more in Indian shares (section 198(8); section 112A of the 1961 Act): long-term after 12 months; short-term gains at 20% (section 196) and long-term gains at 12.5% on the year’s total above ₹1,25,000 (section 198). Units bought before 1 February 2018 take as cost the higher of what they cost and the lower of the NAV on 31 January 2018 and the sale value (section 90(7); section 55(2)(ac) of the 1961 Act).
- Debt funds (more than 65% in debt and money-market instruments, conservative hybrid funds included) bought on or after 1 April 2023: always short-term, at your slab rates (section 76; section 50AA). Bought before 1 April 2023: long-term after 24 months, at 12.5% without indexation (section 197).
- Other funds — gold, international, other funds of funds, hybrids that are neither: long-term after 24 months, at 12.5% (section 197).
Stamp duty on a purchase is part of its cost. The redemption amount on the statement is the sale value (an exit load is already taken off). STT is not deductible. A purchase the registrar reversed is taken out with its reversal, and units that move in a scheme merger keep their dates and cost: a merger is not a sale.
XIRR
XIRR is the yearly return of money that goes in and out on different dates — Excel’s XIRR, as in the XIRR calculator. Each purchase counts as money you put in (with its stamp duty), each redemption (after STT) and each IDCW payout as money you got back, and the value of the units on the statement’s date closes the account. A reinvested IDCW is not new money. Switches between your schemes count for each scheme but cancel out in the portfolio’s XIRR.
Regular and direct plans
Every scheme has a direct plan and a regular plan with the same portfolio; the regular plan’s higher total expense ratio pays the distributor whose ARN appears on your statement. Enter the expense ratio of your plan and of the direct plan (AMFI publishes them) to see the extra cost a year at today’s value and, with a return you assume, the difference over the years you choose. This is arithmetic on the figures you enter, not a recommendation to switch: a switch is a redemption, which may be taxed and may carry an exit load.
Limitations
- For residents. Units held in demat accounts, NPS, PMS and shares are not part of the registrars’ statement.
- The NAV on 31 January 2018, the expense ratios and the tax category are what you enter or confirm; the tool does not look them up.
- Sales before FY 2025-26 are matched (so later sales use the right units) and totalled by year, but not split by category: the holding periods and rates were different then.
- Segregated portfolios, gifts and transmissions are listed but their cost is not apportioned; check those schemes with the registrar’s capital gains statement.
- A scanned or printed copy of the statement has no text to read; download the emailed PDF.
- No buy, sell or switch suggestions: the figures are for your own records and your tax return.
Privacy
The statement is opened and read in your browser; its password is used only to open it here. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing is kept after you close the page.
Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Mutual Fund CAS Analyzer (India): XIRR, Capital Gains, Allocation shows the XIRR of your whole portfolio in full, with the first rows of each table (up to 3); the allocation and every other figure are hidden. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
Which CAS do I need?
The detailed Consolidated Account Statement from CAMS or KFintech, as a PDF by email, for the period from your first investment. Either registrar’s statement covers the funds of both. A summary statement or a demat statement from NSDL or CDSL has no transaction history.
Is my statement or its password uploaded?
No. Your browser opens the PDF with the password you type and reads it on your device; MySmartCoPilot never receives the file, the password or the figures.
Where do I find the NAV on 31 January 2018?
In AMFI’s NAV history: choose the scheme and 31 January 2018. Enter it per unit for the same plan and option (growth or IDCW) you hold. It only matters for equity-fund units bought before 1 February 2018 and sold long-term.
Why are my debt fund gains short-term after two years?
Units of a fund that keeps more than 65% in debt and money-market instruments, bought on or after 1 April 2023, are always short-term and taxed at your slab rates, however long you hold them (section 76 of the Income-tax Act, 2025; section 50AA of the 1961 Act).
Why is my XIRR different from the app’s return?
Apps often show the absolute return or the CAGR of today’s units. XIRR weighs every amount by how long it was invested, and here it includes units you already redeemed and the IDCW paid out. Statements that start after your first investment leave out the earlier money, so request one from the beginning.
Can I use the gains in my ITR?
With a pass, the lots CSV and the workbook have, lot by lot, the scheme, ISIN, units, dates, sale value, cost, the 31 January 2018 value where it applies, and the gain — what the capital gains schedules ask for. Compare the totals with the registrars’ own capital gains statement before you file.
