About the Crypto Funding Rate Calculator
A perpetual future has no expiry, so exchanges keep its price near the spot price with funding: at every funding time, one side pays the other a share of the position’s value. When the rate is positive, longs pay shorts; when it is negative, shorts pay longs. This calculator turns your position and a funding rate — or the list of past rates you copy from your own exchange — into the payment for one interval, a day and the time you hold, the annualised rate, the funding as a share of your margin, and the carry of holding the coin against a short perpetual after both legs’ fees.
It works for any exchange and any interval: 8 hours is the most common, and some contracts settle every 4 hours or every hour. Everything is worked out in your browser from the numbers you type; no market data is used.
How to use it
- Choose long or short, then give the position as its size and mark price, or as its value.
- Enter the funding rate per interval as a percentage (0.01 for 0.01%) and the interval, or switch to your own list and paste one rate per funding time, with its mark price after it if you have it.
- Set how long you hold the position: a number of funding times, hours or days.
- Add your leverage to see the funding against your margin, and your spot and perpetual fees to see the carry of a hedged position.
- Read the payment for one interval, the total and the annualised rate; copy the summary or download every payment as CSV — with a pass, or after unlocking this result.
Examples
Long 0.1 DEMO (a fictional coin) at a mark price of 30,000 USDT; 0.01% every 8 hours; held 30 days
You pay 0.30 a funding time, 0.90 a day, 27.00 over 30 days (90 funding times); the rate is 10.95% a year
Margin 600 USDT behind the 3,000 position
Funding of 10.95% a year of the position is 54.75% a year of your margin
3,000 of each leg; 0.1% fee per side on spot and 0.05% per side on the perpetual; 30 days at 0.01% per 8 h
Funding received +27.00 − fees 9.00 = +18.00; the fees take 10 days of funding to cover
Common uses
- See what holding a leveraged perpetual position for a week or a month costs in funding.
- Add up the funding you paid or received from the rates of your own trade history.
- Check how many days of funding it takes to cover the fees of a hedged carry position.
- Compare funding quoted per interval with a yearly rate.
The formulas
- Funding of one interval = position value × funding rate, where the position value is the mark price × the size, as in Binance’s funding rate guide. A positive rate: longs pay shorts; a negative rate: shorts pay longs. Funding is paid only by positions open at a funding time.
- A day = one interval × (24 ÷ hours per interval); over your holding time = the sum over the funding times it passes (whole intervals).
- Annualised rate = rate × (24 ÷ hours per interval) × 365, simple (not compounded): 0.01% every 8 hours is 0.01% × 3 × 365 = 10.95% a year.
- On your margin = the annualised rate × your leverage, because the margin is the position value ÷ the leverage.
- Carry of holding the coin and shorting the perpetual = funding received − (spot fee × 2 + perpetual fee × 2) × position value; days to cover the fees = the fees ÷ the funding a day.
- Your own list: each line is one funding time; with a mark price on the line and the size of the position, that payment uses that mark price.
Reading the results
- The headline is the payment at the first funding time, with a plus sign when you receive it and a minus sign when you pay it.
- The annualised rate is how the rate is quoted; for you turns it into what your side pays or receives a year.
- On your margin shows why funding matters with leverage: a small rate on the position is a large one on the money you put up.
- The carry assumes both legs stay the same size and the rates you entered hold; funding rates change at every funding time.
What it leaves out
Changes in the funding rate that you did not enter, the spread between the spot and perpetual prices (the basis) when you open and close, borrowing costs for a short of the coin, slippage, and taxes. Funding comes out of your margin, which moves your liquidation price: the crypto futures calculator shows where it is.
Limitations
- Funding rates change at every funding time: a single rate held for days is an assumption, not a forecast.
- Funding times passed in hours or days are counted as whole intervals; the first payment depends on when you open the position.
- The carry leaves out the basis between the spot and perpetual prices, borrowing costs and taxes.
- It calculates from your numbers and uses no market data: it says nothing about where any rate or price is going.

Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Crypto Funding Rate Calculator shows the funding for one interval in full, with the first rows of each table (up to 3) and a watermarked chart; every other figure is hidden. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
How is the funding fee worked out?
Multiply the position value — the mark price times the size — by the funding rate. A position of 0.1 coin at a mark price of 30,000 is worth 3,000; at 0.01% it pays or receives 0.30 at each funding time.
Who pays when the funding rate is positive?
Longs pay shorts when the rate is positive, and shorts pay longs when it is negative. Nothing goes to the exchange: the payment passes from one side to the other.
How do I annualise a funding rate?
Multiply the rate by the funding times a day and by 365: 0.01% every 8 hours is 0.01% × 3 × 365 = 10.95% a year. Every 4 hours it would be 21.9%, and every hour 87.6%. This is a simple rate: funding is not reinvested by itself.
Do I pay funding if I close before the funding time?
No. Funding is paid only by positions that are open at a funding time, so a position opened and closed between two funding times pays and receives nothing.
What is the carry of a funding trade?
Holding the coin and shorting the same amount of the perpetual leaves the price risk largely hedged while the short receives funding when the rate is positive. On 3,000 a leg, 30 days at 0.01% every 8 hours bring in 27.00; with 0.1% spot and 0.05% perpetual fees each way, the round trip costs 9.00, which takes 10 days of funding to cover.
Can I use my exchange’s funding history?
Yes. Copy the rate column from your funding history and paste it as your own list, one rate per line; if the mark price is next to it, paste both columns and give the size of the position, and each payment uses its own mark price. Percentages with a % sign and dates on the line are recognised.
