About Dots and Boxes
A browser version of the pencil-and-paper classic Dots and Boxes. Take turns claiming a line between two dots; completing the fourth side of a box scores it for you and gives you another turn.
Play a friend on the same device, or against a simple computer opponent that avoids handing you free boxes when it can.
How to play
- Click or tap a line between two dots to claim it.
- Completing the fourth side of a box scores that box for you and lets you move again.
- Watch out: claiming the third side of a box usually hands your opponent a free box next turn.
- When every box is claimed, whoever has more boxes wins; equal scores are a draw.
Controls
- Click or tap a line between two dots — claim it
- Tab and Enter — keyboard play
- Restart — start a fresh board
Frequently asked questions
Why did the computer let me complete a box?
When every remaining line would hand away a box, the computer picks one anyway — at that point every move is equally risky, so it just claims a line.
Can two people play on one device?
Yes — choose Two players and take turns tapping lines on the same board.
