Results are estimates for general information and planning, not financial advice. Banks and institutions may calculate differently (rounding, fees, rate changes). Confirm figures with your lender or a qualified adviser before deciding.

About the Shopify Fee Calculator: Plan, Payments & Transaction Fees

Shopify charges in three ways: the plan price, card fees on every order paid through Shopify Payments, and — if you use another payment provider — a third-party transaction fee of 2%, 1%, 0.6% or 0.2% depending on the plan, on top of that provider’s own fee. Which plan is cheapest depends on how much you sell. Enter your average order value and orders a month, and this calculator works out every plan’s monthly cost, the fees per order, the effective rate and the monthly sales at which each higher plan becomes cheaper.

Presets cover the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and India (where Shopify Payments is not offered, so every order pays a provider plus Shopify’s third-party fee). They come from Shopify’s pricing page for each country, carry a preset version, and every price and rate in the table can be changed — or choose another country and type yours.

    How to use it

    1. Choose your store country and billing: paying yearly lowers the price a month.
    2. Choose Shopify Payments or another provider, and for another provider enter its rate and fixed fee per order.
    3. Enter your average order value and orders a month, and any other monthly costs such as apps.
    4. With Shopify Payments, open Card mix to set the share of premium or American Express cards, international cards and in-person payments — each has its own rate.
    5. Read the cheapest plan, each plan’s cost a month and per order, and when a higher plan starts to pay off. Copy the summary or download the comparison as a CSV.

    Examples

US, yearly billing: 150 orders a month of $60 (15% premium cards, 5% international)
    Result
    Basic $347.60 · Grow $379.60 · Advanced $581.60 · Plus from $2,561.45 a month
Grow costs less than Basic above $25,000 of sales a month; Advanced less than Grow above $110,000

    Basic’s fees average $2.124 an order: 80% at 2.9% + 30¢, 15% at 3.5% + 30¢ and 5% at 3.9% + 30¢.

India, yearly billing: 100 orders of ₹1,000 through a provider charging 2%
    Result
    Basic ₹1,499 + ₹2,000 provider fees + ₹2,000 Shopify third-party fees = ₹5,499 a month
Grow costs less than Basic above ₹4,10,000 of sales a month

Grow’s third-party fee is 1% instead of 2%, which pays for its ₹4,100 higher price at ₹4,10,000 of sales.

    Card rates by plan

Online card rates with Shopify Payments, for Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus:

    • Canada: 2.8%, 2.6% and 2.4% + 30¢ (for Plus the page gives only a starting rate of 2.15% + 30¢, so type its rates to compare it); American Express and international cards 3.5%, 3.4% and 3.3% + 30¢; in person 2.6%, 2.5% and 2.4%.

    The third-party transaction fee

When orders are paid through a provider other than Shopify Payments, Shopify adds its own transaction fee: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, the same on all five pricing pages. You still pay the provider’s fee, so a provider at 2% on Basic costs 4% of every order in all. In India, where Shopify Payments is not available, that is the only way to take payments, so the higher plans’ lower transaction fees count for more.

When a higher plan pays off

With your order value fixed, each plan costs its price plus a share of your sales. A higher plan costs more each month but takes a smaller share, so it becomes cheaper once your sales pass

sales = (higher plan price − lower plan price) ÷ (lower plan’s fee share − higher plan’s fee share)

In the US example, Grow costs $50 more a month than Basic but takes 0.2% less of sales ($2.004 instead of $2.124 on each $60 order), so it pays off above $50 ÷ 0.2% = $25,000 of sales a month. The table of sales levels shows each plan’s cost around your own sales, the cheapest in bold.

    Limitations

    • Plus is priced “from” a starting price; real Plus contracts depend on sales and terms.
    • Taxes on Shopify’s charges (VAT, GST or sales tax), currency conversion, PayPal and other wallet rates, Shop Pay Installments, chargebacks, shipping labels and app fees are not included unless you add them as other monthly costs.
    • The card mix is an average: actual fees are charged order by order.
    • MySmartCoPilot is not affiliated with Shopify. Plans and rates change; the preset version tells you which table is used, and the rates can be edited.

    Frequently asked questions

How much does Shopify take per sale?

With Shopify Payments on the US Basic plan, 2.9% + 30¢ for an online card payment, so $2.04 on a $60 order — plus the plan price. With another provider there is no Shopify card fee, but Shopify adds a 2% transaction fee on Basic on top of the provider’s fee.

Which Shopify plan is cheapest for me?

It depends on your monthly sales. Enter your average order value and orders a month: the calculator costs every plan and shows the sales at which Grow, Advanced and Plus start to cost less than the plan below them. In the US example above, Grow pays off from $25,000 of sales a month.

What is Shopify’s third-party transaction fee?

A fee Shopify charges on orders paid through another payment provider instead of Shopify Payments: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, in addition to that provider’s own fees.

Is Shopify Payments available in India?

No. Stores in India use another payment provider, so each order pays the provider’s fee plus Shopify’s third-party transaction fee — 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced.

Should I pay yearly or monthly?

Paying yearly lowers the price a month — in the US, Basic is $29 a month billed yearly against $39 monthly, Grow $79 against $105 — but you pay the year up front. Switch the billing above to compare.
