How this was calculated
Results are estimates for general information and planning, not financial advice. Banks and institutions may calculate differently (rounding, fees, rate changes). Confirm figures with your lender or a qualified adviser before deciding.
About the Poshmark, Mercari & Depop Fee Calculator (resellers)
The same second-hand item can leave you very different amounts depending on where it sells. Enter the sale price, who pays shipping, the label cost and what you paid for the item, and this calculator puts Poshmark, Mercari, Depop and eBay side by side for a US sale — or Depop, eBay and Vinted for a UK one — with each platform’s fees, payout and profit, the best-paying platform at that price, and a sourcing check: the most you can pay for the item and still make the profit you want.
The rates are transcribed from each platform’s published fee pages, shown with a preset version, and every one can be changed under Platform options if a platform revises its fees. Each platform has its own options too: Poshmark’s shipping discount and Texas fee tax, Mercari’s Instant Pay, Depop’s Boosted listings, eBay’s category and ad rate, a Vinted bump — plus a platform of your own with the rates you type.
How to use it
- Choose United States or United Kingdom, and enter the sale price, what you paid for the item and your packaging cost.
- Say whether the buyer pays shipping or you offer free shipping, and enter what the label costs. In the US, enter the buyer’s sales tax rate: eBay and Depop charge their fees on it.
- Tick the platforms to compare; open Platform options for shipping discounts, boosts, Instant Pay, the eBay category, or another platform’s rates.
- Enter the profit you want for the sourcing check, then read each platform’s payout and profit and the most to pay for the item. Copy the summary or download a CSV.
Examples
Poshmark profit $21.00 · Mercari $24.20 · Depop $26.86 · eBay $21.62 For $15 profit, pay at most $16.00 (Poshmark), $19.20 (Mercari), $21.86 (Depop), $16.62 (eBay)
Poshmark 20% = $8.00; Mercari 10% of $48 = $4.80; Depop 3.3% × $51.36 + $0.45 = $2.14; eBay 13.6% × $51.36 + $0.40 = $7.38.
Depop profit £18.37 (2.9% + 30p processing) · eBay £19.50 · Vinted £19.50
A $12 sale pays a flat $2.95 — almost a quarter of the price
Fees by platform
- Poshmark (US): $2.95 for sales under $15, 20% from $15 (Fee Policy). The buyer pays a flat $6.49 for Poshmark’s prepaid label; a shipping discount you offer comes out of your earnings. Texas sellers also pay Texas sales tax on 80% of the fee.
- Mercari (US): 10% of the item price and the shipping the buyer pays, with no payment processing fee; Instant Pay costs $3 a transfer (Fees on Mercari).
- Depop: no selling fee for US and UK sellers; payment processing of 3.3% + $0.45 (US) or 2.9% + £0.30 (UK) on the item, shipping and tax; Boosted listings 12% (Depop seller fees).
- eBay (US): the category’s final value fee on the item, shipping and sales tax — 13.6% for most categories — plus $0.30 or $0.40 an order (eBay selling fees). eBay (UK): private sellers based in the UK pay no final value fee (eBay UK).
- Vinted (UK): no selling fees; the buyer pays the postage and Vinted’s fee (how Vinted works).
Shipping changes the answer
When the buyer pays shipping, Mercari, eBay and Depop charge their fees on the shipping too, while Poshmark’s fee is on the item only. When you offer free shipping you pay the label out of the sale, but no fee is charged on shipping. Poshmark always uses its own $6.49 label, so the label cost you enter applies to the other platforms. Try both shipping choices: the best platform can change.
The sourcing check
Before you buy an item to resell, work back from its likely sale price: the most you can pay = the platform’s profit before the item cost − the profit you want. In the US example, for $15 of profit you can pay up to $21.86 for an item that sells for $40 on Depop, but only $16.00 if it sells on Poshmark.
Limitations
- One item per sale. Bundles, offers, Poshmark’s and Vinted’s buyer fees and the platforms’ promotions are not modelled.
- Poshmark and Mercari are US platforms here; Poshmark’s Canadian site and eBay’s business-seller fees in the UK are not covered — use “Another platform” for those.
- Sales tax rates vary by state; a platform may handle tax on shipping differently.
- Income tax on resale profit is not worked out. MySmartCoPilot is not affiliated with any of these platforms; check fees in each app before you list.

Frequently asked questions
Which pays more for a $40 item: Poshmark, Mercari, Depop or eBay?
With the buyer paying $8 shipping and 7% sales tax, the example above leaves $26.86 profit on Depop, $24.20 on Mercari, $21.62 on eBay and $21.00 on Poshmark. Depop has no selling fee for US sellers, only payment processing; Poshmark takes 20%.
How much does Poshmark take?
A flat $2.95 on sales under $15 and 20% on sales of $15 or more. The buyer pays the shipping label ($6.49 flat), unless you offer a shipping discount.
How much does Mercari take?
10% of the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays, with no separate payment processing fee. Direct deposit is free; Instant Pay costs $3 a transfer.
Does Depop charge selling fees?
Not for sellers in the US or the UK: they pay only payment processing — 3.3% + $0.45 in the US, 2.9% + £0.30 in the UK — on the item, shipping and tax, plus 12% on Boosted listings. Sellers outside the US, the UK and Australia pay a 10% selling fee.
How much should I pay for an item I want to resell?
Work back from where it will sell: the calculator shows, for each platform, the most you can pay and still make the profit you set. A $40 sale with $15 of target profit allows up to $21.86 on Depop but $16.00 on Poshmark.
