Exit code: what you dial in that country before another country’s code (on a mobile, + works instead). Trunk prefix: the digit(s) written in front of numbers inside that country, which you drop when calling from abroad (— means none). * = other carrier prefixes also work. Select a country to see how to call it.
No country matches. Try another spelling or a code such as 44.

About the International Calling Codes & How to Dial
Everything you need to call another country. Find a country code works both ways: type Germany to get +49, or +44 to see that it is the United Kingdom (and Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man, which share it). For +1 and +7, the area code picks the exact country, so +1 876 is Jamaica.
How to call then gives the exact digits for your route: the exit code to dial in your country (00 from India, 011 from the US, 0011 from Australia), the country code, and the number without its trunk prefix — usually the leading 0. Type the number you want to call and it is checked and shown in E.164, international and national format, ready to dial from a landline or a mobile. The current time in both places is shown too, so you do not ring someone at 3 a.m.
How to use it
- Type a country, city or code in Find a country code — or browse the full table below and select a country.
- In How to call, choose where you are calling from and the country you are calling. Pick a time zone if the country has several.
- Read the digits to dial at the top, with the steps and any special notes (dial-tone waits, carrier codes, keeping a leading 0).
- Optional: type their phone number to check it (mobile or landline, valid or not) and get the exact string to dial; Copy copies it.
- Check Time now before you call: it shows the time in both places and how far ahead or behind they are.
Examples
From India to United Kingdom · number 020 7946 0018
Dial 00 44 20 7946 0018 from a landline, or +44 20 7946 0018 from a mobile
00 is India’s exit code, 44 the UK’s country code, and the leading 0 (the UK trunk prefix) is dropped.
From United States to India · number 98765 43210
Dial 011 91 98765 43210 (or +91 98765 43210 from a mobile)
+1 876
Jamaica (area codes 658 and 876 share the US and Canada’s +1)
From United Kingdom to Italy · number 06 1234 5678
Dial 00 39 06 1234 5678 — Italian numbers keep their 0
Common uses
- Calling family abroad, or a hotel, airline or office in another country.
- Working out where a missed call or WhatsApp number is from (+971 → United Arab Emirates).
- Writing phone numbers on business cards, websites and forms in the international +44 format, or E.164 for apps and CRMs.
- Planning calls across time zones without waking anyone.
Exit code, country code, trunk prefix
An international call has three parts: the exit code (also called the international or IDD prefix) of the country you are calling from, the country code of the country you are calling, and the national number without its trunk prefix.
The ITU defines the trunk prefix as the digit or digits dialled before an area code for a call inside the country, and says it must not be dialled in an international call. In most countries it is 0 (UK 020 → +44 20), in the US and Canada it is 1, in Russia and Kazakhstan 8, and in Hungary 06. Some countries have none: in Italy, San Marino and Vatican City the leading 0 belongs to the number and stays (+39 06 …), as it does in Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon and the Republic of the Congo; Denmark, Norway and Singapore numbers are dialled as written.
On a mobile phone you can always press + instead of the exit code — the network turns it into the right prefix, which is why +44 20 7946 0018 works from anywhere.
Shared country codes
Some codes are shared. +1 is the North American Numbering Plan: the United States, Canada and 23 other countries and territories in the Caribbean, the Atlantic and the Pacific, told apart by their 3-digit area code (Jamaica 876 and 658, Bahamas 242 …). Between them you dial 1 + area code + number, like a long-distance call. +7 covers Russia and Kazakhstan, and +44 covers the UK, Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man; calls between places sharing a code are dialled like national calls. Curaçao and the Caribbean Netherlands share +599 but are separate countries, so from a mobile use the full +599 format.
Where the data comes from
- Calling codes, exit codes and trunk prefixes, and number checking: Google’s open-source libphonenumber metadata (via libphonenumber-js 1.13.14), which is updated as countries change their numbering plans. Some countries have several exit codes (one per carrier): Brazil puts a two-digit carrier code after 00, and Colombia, South Korea and Taiwan have a code per carrier.
- Codes and their meaning: the ITU’s List of Recommendation ITU-T E.164 assigned country codes and Dialling procedures (international prefix, national (trunk) prefix and national number). The ITU lists are older (2016 and 2011) than the metadata, so where they differ the newer metadata is used — except for Tanzania and Uganda, whose metadata mixes the short codes for calls between Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda (005, 006, 007) into the exit code; there the ITU’s 000 is shown, and for Ukraine 00 without the old wait for a second dial tone.
- Time zones: the IANA time zone database (zone.tab, release 2026c); the current offsets and daylight saving times come from your browser.
Limitations
- Number checking tells you whether a number fits the country’s numbering plan, not whether it is in service or who owns it.
- Some neighbouring countries have special short codes for calls between them, and some operators use their own prefixes; if a call fails, use the + format from a mobile.
- Satellite phones and global services (+800, +870, +881 …) are listed for reference; call charges for them are usually high.
- Time zones are by country (and region for large countries); a few places within a zone do not follow its daylight saving rules.
Privacy
Everything runs in your browser: the phone number you type is checked on your device and never sent anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Which country has the code +44?
The United Kingdom. Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man also use +44 as part of the UK numbering plan. Type any code in Find a country code to look it up.
How do I call the USA from India?
Dial 00 (India’s exit code), then 1 (the US country code), then the 10-digit number: 00 1 212 555 0100. From a mobile, +1 212 555 0100 works too.
Do I keep the 0 at the start of the number?
Usually not: a leading 0 is normally the trunk prefix, which is dropped after the country code (UK 07400 123456 → +44 7400 123456). Italy, San Marino and Vatican City are exceptions — their 0 stays (+39 06 …) — and so do Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon and the Republic of the Congo. How to call tells you for each country.
What is the E.164 format?
The international standard way to write a phone number: a +, the country code and the national number, with no spaces or trunk prefix — for example +442079460018. Apps, SMS services and CRMs usually want numbers in E.164.
What is the difference between ISD, IDD and STD codes?
In India, ISD (international subscriber dialling) means calling abroad, and the ISD code usually means a country code such as +91; IDD is the same idea elsewhere, and the exit code is the IDD prefix. STD codes are area codes for long-distance calls within India.
Why does the time difference change during the year?
Many countries move their clocks for daylight saving time in summer, on different dates. The times shown use your browser’s time zone database, so they include these changes.
