EPUB Reader (Read E-books Online)
Open an e-book and read it here — pages or scroll, night mode, nothing uploaded.
Opening…
Turn pages with the arrow keys, Page Up/Down or Space, by clicking or tapping near the left or right edge, or by swiping. Your place is remembered on this device.
About the EPUB Reader (Read E-books Online)
Read e-books right in your browser: EPUB (2 and 3), Kindle MOBI and AZW3 (KF8), FB2 (FictionBook, also zipped) and CBZ comic books — as long as they are DRM-free. The book opens with its own fonts, pictures and styles, and you choose how it reads: pages you turn (two side by side on a wide screen) or one scrolling column, the text size, font and line spacing, and a light, sepia or dark page.
The table of contents, a search across the whole book and the book’s details are one click away, a slider jumps anywhere in the book, and your place is remembered on this device, so the same book opens where you stopped. Books are opened on your device and never uploaded; anything in a book that could run — scripts, event handlers, embedded frames — is removed before it is shown.
How to use it
- Press Choose an e-book (or drop it on the box). EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, FB2 and CBZ files open; the format is recognised from the file itself.
- Turn pages with ← and →, Page Up / Page Down or Space, by clicking or tapping near the left or right edge of the page, by swiping on a phone, or with the arrow buttons above the book. Drag the slider under the book to jump.
- Press Contents to open the table of contents, or Search to find a word or phrase anywhere in the book; select a result to go to it, highlighted.
- Open Display to change the text size, theme (light, sepia, dark), layout (pages or scroll), font and line spacing.
- Close the tab when you like: opening the same book again on this device continues where you stopped.
Examples
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, EPUB 3 with pictures
Opens at the cover with the contents listing the twelve chapters; searching “Cheshire” lists every match with the chapter it is in.
A DRM-free AZW3 file (for example from an author or a public-domain library)
Its chapters, pictures, styles, fonts and contents are rebuilt from the Kindle format and read like an EPUB.
A CBZ archive with page images
One page at a time, fitted to the screen, in the natural order of the file names (page 2 before page 10); manga marked right-to-left reads right to left.
Common uses
- Reading a downloaded e-book on a computer that has no e-book app.
- Checking an EPUB you made — how it looks, whether its contents and links work — before you publish it.
- Reading public-domain books from Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks or Wikisource in comfortable night colours.
- Searching a long book for every mention of a name or term.
Formats and what is supported
- EPUB 2 and EPUB 3 (W3C EPUB 3.3): reading order, navigation document or NCX contents, the book’s CSS, embedded fonts (also obfuscated ones), SVG and MathML, pictures, footnote links, right-to-left books and fixed-layout pages (picture books), which are scaled to fit the screen.
- MOBI and AZW3: the Kindle formats are unpacked here — text decompressed, pictures and fonts taken from the file, the AZW3 chapters and styles rebuilt, and the Kindle table of contents read.
- FB2: FictionBook XML in any character set it declares (also Cyrillic Windows-1251), with chapters, poems, epigraphs, notes and its pictures; .fb2.zip files open too.
- CBZ: comic books as ZIP archives of pictures, with the title and reading direction from ComicInfo.xml when it is there.
DRM-protected books
Books sold with DRM — Adobe Digital Editions (ADEPT), Readium LCP, Apple Books (FairPlay) or Kindle DRM — are encrypted, and only the apps they were bought for can open them. The reader recognises them and says so; it doesn’t try to remove DRM. DRM-free books — public-domain libraries, many independent publishers and authors, books you made yourself — open fine.
Your privacy
The book is read from your device and shown in this page; nothing about it is sent anywhere. Scripts and other active content in a book are removed before it is shown, and the page’s security policy would stop them anyway, and nothing is loaded from the web — a book can’t track that you are reading it. Your display settings and, for each book, the part and place you reached are stored in this browser under a fingerprint of the file (a hash of its name, size and first bytes, not its title or contents).
Limitations
- DRM-protected books can’t be opened (see above), and neither can KFX files, Amazon’s newest Kindle format.
- CBR comics (RAR archives) aren’t supported: unpack and re-zip them as CBZ.
- Interactive EPUBs don’t run their scripts, and audio or video in a book isn’t played. Read-aloud media overlays aren’t used.
- Fixed-layout books and comics are shown one page at a time, not as two-page spreads.
- Books written vertically (some Japanese and Chinese books) are shown in scroll layout.
- Highlights and notes can’t be added; only the reading position is remembered.
- Very large illustrated books need plenty of memory; on a phone, close other tabs first.

Frequently asked questions
Is my book uploaded?
No. The file is read by your browser and shown on this device. Nothing about the book or your reading is sent to MySmartCoPilot or anyone else.
Why can’t I open a book I bought?
Most shops sell books with DRM, which only their own app or device can open. If the shop offers a DRM-free download (some do, often marked “DRM-free”), use that file. The reader tells you when a book has DRM rather than showing garbled pages.
Can I open Kindle books?
DRM-free MOBI and AZW3 files, yes — for example Project Gutenberg’s Kindle editions or books an author sent you. Books bought in the Kindle Store are protected with DRM (and often in KFX format), so they can’t be opened outside Amazon’s apps.
Does it remember where I stopped?
Yes, on this device and in this browser: open the same file again and it continues at the same place. Press Start from the beginning in the message that appears to read from the start instead.
Can I change the font or make the text bigger?
Open Display: the text size goes from 70 % to 200 %, and you can switch to a serif or sans-serif font and set the line spacing. Books that fix their text size in pixels may not get bigger — choose a different font size there, or the scroll layout.
