About the Assignment Cover Page & Title Page Generator
Fill in a short form and get the first page of your assignment laid out the way your style guide asks: the APA 7 student or professional title page, the MLA 9 heading at the top of page 1 (or a title page for a group project), the Chicago (Turabian) class-paper title page, or a front page for a school or college with the institution’s logo, the subject, who submitted it and to whom. The preview is laid out line for line like the PDF and updates as you type.
With a Pro pass you download it as a Word file (.docx) that is set up for the rest of the paper — 1-inch margins, your font and size, double spacing, and the page number in a real header (with APA’s running head, MLA’s surname, or no number on a Turabian title page) — or as a PDF to put in front of a finished paper or print. Everything happens in your browser: the logo and your details are never uploaded.
How to use it
- Pick the format: APA student, APA professional, MLA, Chicago / Turabian or School / college, and the paper size and font.
- Type the title (and subtitle, if there is one). Fix capitalization puts it in the style’s title case; check names and abbreviations afterwards.
- Add your name — or every author’s, for group work — and the details the format asks for: the affiliation, course and instructor for APA, the instructor, course and date for MLA, or the institution, subject and teacher for a school front page. Add a logo for a school page if you like.
- Read the Check notes under the preview: they point out what the style expects, such as APA’s 50-character limit for a running head. Click a note to go to its field.
- Press Download .docx to keep writing in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice, PDF for a page to print or attach, or Copy text for the lines in order — with a pass, or after unlocking this result. Without either, the page stays a marked free preview.
Examples
Title: Morning Light and Attention in Primary Classrooms · Asha Verma · Department of Education, Lakeside University · EDU 210: Child Development · Dr. Martin Okoye · due date
Page number 1 at the top right; three blank double-spaced lines; the title in bold, centred; one blank line; then the name, the affiliation, the course, the instructor and the date, each centred on its own double-spaced line.
Asha Verma (affiliation 1), Tomás Rivera (affiliation 2)
Asha Verma¹ and Tomás Rivera² ¹ Department of Education, Lakeside University ² School of Psychology, Hillcrest College
With one shared affiliation there are no numbers. The author note starts on the first line below the middle of the page.
Asha Verma · Dr. Martin Okoye · EDU 210: Child Development · date
Four double-spaced lines at the top left, the title centred on the next line in plain type, and “Verma 1” at the top right, half an inch from the edge.
Title with a subtitle, your name, the course and the date
The bold title about a third of the way down, ending in a colon with the subtitle on the next line; the name, course and date lower on the page; no page number. In the .docx the next page is numbered 2.
Common uses
- An APA 7 title page for a psychology, nursing, education or business assignment.
- The MLA heading and running head for an English essay, ready to keep writing in Word or Google Docs.
- A Turabian title page for a history or humanities paper, with page 2 numbered in the .docx.
- A front page with the school or college logo for an assignment, project report, lab record or practical file.
What each format puts on the page
- APA 7 student: the title three or four lines below the top margin, in bold and centred, with any subtitle on its own line; one blank line; then the author names (two joined by “and”, three or more with commas and “and”), the department and university, the course number and name, the instructor and the due date — all centred and double-spaced. Page number 1 sits at the top right; a student paper needs no running head unless the instructor asks for one. See APA Style on the title page and its Student Paper Setup Guide (PDF).
- APA 7 professional: the title and byline in the same places, the affiliations each on their own line (with superscript numbers when authors have different ones), the author note in the bottom half under a bold, centred “Author Note” label, and in the header a running head in capitals at the left — at most 50 characters, without the words “Running head” — across from the page number. See APA Style on the page header.
- MLA 9: no title page. Your name, the instructor’s name, the course and the date go on separate double-spaced lines at the top left of page 1, the title is centred on the next line with no bold, italics, quotation marks or capitals throughout, and your surname and the page number sit at the top right, half an inch from the top. A group project gets a title page that lists every author instead. See the MLA Handbook on the title and heading and the running head.
- Chicago / Turabian: the title begins about a third of the way down, in bold and headline-style capitals, with a colon after the main title and the subtitle on the next line; your name, the course and the date go lower down; the page shows no number but counts as page 1. See the University of Chicago Press’s Turabian student tip sheets.
- School / college: a plain front page of this tool’s own design — logo, institution, kind of work and title, subject, “Submitted by” with the student’s number and class, “Submitted to” with the teacher’s designation, the session and the date — with an optional border and lines for a signature and marks. Every label can be reworded.
What the Word file and the PDF contain
- Margins and spacing: 1 inch on every side; APA, MLA and Turabian pages are double-spaced with no extra space between paragraphs, and their blank lines are real empty lines you can delete or add to.
- Fonts: the .docx asks for the font you chose (Times New Roman, Calibri, Arial, Georgia or Aptos) at your size; for APA the size follows the font, as in APA’s setup guide (12 point for Times New Roman and Aptos, 11 for Calibri, Arial and Georgia). The PDF uses Times or Helvetica, the standard PDF fonts every reader has: Times stands in for the serif fonts and Helvetica, which has Arial’s proportions, for the sans-serif ones. Names in Polish, Greek, Cyrillic, Vietnamese or Hindi are set in Noto Sans in the PDF.
- Page numbers: a real header half an inch from the top with a page-number field, so the numbers stay right as the paper grows. For APA and Turabian the .docx can go on to the first page of the paper (APA repeats the title in bold at the top of it); after an MLA group title page the numbering starts again at 1.
- The PDF is the title page on its own, ready to put in front of a finished paper with PDF Merge.
Before you hand it in
- Your instructor’s or institution’s instructions come first: all three style guides say so, and many schools have a front-page format of their own.
- Check the capitals of names, places and abbreviations after Fix capitalization, and type the course and the instructor’s name exactly as your course materials write them.
- APA students use the student title page unless they are told to use the professional one.
- For the reference list, use the APA Citation Generator and the Reference List Checker.
Limitations
- The PDF uses Times or Helvetica in place of Calibri, Georgia or Aptos; the .docx uses the font you chose, which Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice show when it is installed.
- In the PDF, letters of scripts other than Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Vietnamese and Devanagari (for example Arabic, Bengali, Tamil or Chinese) print as “?”; the .docx keeps them, and the page warns you first.
- Word lays text out with the real font, so a long title may break at a slightly different word than in the preview.
- The school front page is a generic design. It does not reproduce any board’s, university’s or college’s official format; if yours prescribes one, follow it.
- Your details are kept only if you tick “Remember these details on this device” (the logo is never kept).

Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Assignment Cover Page & Title Page Generator shows every page of the document as images marked “MySmartCoPilot preview · not for use”. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro or Premium pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
Does an APA student paper need a running head?
No. APA 7 asks for a running head only on professional papers; a student title page shows just the page number at the top right — unless your instructor or institution asks for a running head.
Where does the title go on an APA title page?
Three or four lines below the top margin, centred and in bold, with the major words capitalized. Leave one blank double-spaced line between the title and the author names. The tool uses three blank lines.
Does an MLA paper need a title page?
Usually not: MLA puts the heading (your name, the instructor, the course and the date) at the top left of the first page. A group project gets a title page listing every author, and a teacher may ask for one — then the title page has no number and the page after it is page 1, as the MLA Style Center advises.
Which date format should I use?
APA asks for the date format of your country. MLA’s sample papers write the day before the month, with no comma; Turabian’s sample title page writes the month first. Pick the form under Written as, or “No date” if your page should not show one.
Is there a page number on a Chicago (Turabian) title page?
No. The title page counts as page 1 but shows no number, so the first page of text is numbered 2. The .docx is set up that way when it includes the start of the paper.
Which font and size should I use for APA?
APA accepts many legible fonts; its setup guide names 12-point Aptos, 11-point Calibri, 11-point Arial, 12-point Times New Roman and 11-point Georgia among them, and the default font of your word processor is fine. Use one font for the whole paper.
Is my school logo uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is read and resized in your browser and drawn into the PDF or the .docx on your device. It is not stored, even when you choose to remember your details.
How do I put the cover page in front of my paper?
With the .docx, paste your paper into it after the title page, or copy the title page into the start of your own document. With the PDF, combine it with your paper’s PDF in PDF Merge.
