About the Prompt Library & Template Manager
A private home for the prompts you reuse with chat assistants and AI APIs. Sort them into folders and tags, write them as templates with {{variables}} and default values, and fill in a short form to get the final prompt, ready to copy into any assistant.
Every change is kept as a version, so you can compare two versions word by word, note which one worked, and go back to it. Search covers titles, tags and the prompt text; favourites stay at the top. Export the library as JSON or Markdown to share it with a team or move it to another device, and import theirs. Everything is stored in this browser and works offline; what you type into the variables is not saved unless you ask for it.
How to use it
- Click New prompt, or Load examples to start from five templates.
- Give the prompt a title, a folder (use
/for sub-folders, as inMarketing/Email) and tags, then write the text. Mark the parts that change with{{name}}, or{{name|default}}for a default value. - Under Fill in and copy, type a value for each variable: the final prompt updates as you type. Press Copy prompt and paste it into your assistant.
- Edits are saved as you type; a new version is kept a few seconds after you stop, or at once with Save version (Ctrl/⌘ + S). Under Versions, add a note, tick Worked well, compare any version with the current text, or restore it.
- Find prompts with Search, the folder and tag filters or Starred only.
- Use Export to download the library as JSON (for import here) or Markdown (to read or share), and Import to add a library; prompts already here keep the copy edited last.
Examples
Summarise the text below for {{audience|a busy manager}} in {{length|five}} bullet points.
{{text}}Fill in: audience (default “a busy manager”), length (default “five”), text
Leave a box empty to use its default; a variable with no value stays as {{text}} and the page warns you.
Return JSON like \{{"status": "ok"}}Return JSON like {{"status": "ok"}}A backslash before {{ keeps the braces as text instead of making a variable.
Export → JSON on your computer; a colleague opens the page and chooses Import
Their library gains your prompts; prompts both of you have keep the copy edited last, with both histories.
Common uses
- Keeping the prompts that work for support replies, code reviews or reports in one searchable place.
- Turning a good prompt into a template that colleagues fill in without breaking it.
- Tracking which wording of a prompt gave the best answers, with notes.
- Sharing a team prompt library as one JSON or Markdown file.
Variables
Write {{name}} wherever the prompt changes. Names can contain letters in any language, digits, spaces, hyphens, underscores and dots: {{customer name}}, {{language}}. A default after a bar, {{tone|friendly}}, is used when you leave the box empty; you can also set or change defaults and add a description for each variable in the Variables table. The values you type are kept only while the page is open, unless you tick Remember the values I type, which saves them with the prompt in this browser.
Versions
The library keeps a version of the title and text a few seconds after you stop typing, when you switch prompts, and whenever you press Save version. Each version can carry a note and a Worked well mark. Compare shows what changed between a version and the current text, word by word — added words highlighted, removed ones struck through — and Restore puts an old version back as the current text (which is then kept as a new version).
Files
JSON holds everything — folders, tags, variables, notes, stars and versions — and imports back here exactly. Markdown writes one section per prompt with its folder, tags and variables and the text in a code block, easy to read, review or keep in a repository; it imports back too. Import also reads a plain JSON array of prompts or {"title": …, "prompt": …} objects from other prompt collections.
Limitations
- The library lives in this browser on this device: clearing the site’s data deletes it, and private windows may forget it when closed. Export a backup now and then.
- There is no shared online library: share prompts by exporting and importing files.
- Two tabs editing the same prompt at the same moment keep the last save.
Privacy
Your prompts, notes and versions are stored only in this browser (IndexedDB) and never uploaded; values typed into variables are not stored unless you tick “Remember the values I type”.
Frequently asked questions
Where are my prompts stored?
In your browser’s own storage (IndexedDB) on this device, for this site only. Nothing is sent to a server, and the page works offline. Use Export to keep a copy or move the library to another device.
Can I use the prompts with any AI assistant?
Yes. Copy prompt puts the filled-in text on the clipboard; paste it into any chat assistant or API call. Nothing here is tied to one provider.
How do I share prompts with my team?
Export the library (or a filtered part of it) as JSON and send the file; your colleagues choose Import. Prompts that already exist are matched by their id and keep whichever copy was edited last, with the versions of both.
What happens to the values I type into the variables?
They stay in the page until you close it. Tick Remember the values I type to save them with each prompt in this browser; untick it to delete the saved values.
How many prompts can I keep?
As many as your browser’s storage allows for this site, which is far more than any prompt library needs. Very large libraries take a moment longer to search.
