    About the Font Previewer & Tester

    Type a sample — a headline, a paragraph, your brand name or a line in Hindi — and see it in many fonts side by side. Compare three kinds of fonts at once: the fonts installed on your computer (listed with the browser’s Local Font Access API in Chrome and Edge, or typed by name in any browser), font files you open (TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2, read from memory with the FontFace API), and a library of open-licence fonts served from this site, such as Inter, Poppins, Montserrat, Noto Sans and Archivo.

    Set the size, weight, upright or italic, letter spacing, line height and colours for every font together, switch between cards, a list and a waterfall of sizes, and pin your favourites to get a font-family stack with a fallback, ready to paste. The page tells you when a font has no real bold or italic and the browser fakes it.

    How to use it

    1. Type your text, or pick an example (pangram, paragraph, figures, accents, Hindi).
    2. Choose fonts: tick library fonts, select List my installed fonts (Chrome and Edge) or type names such as Georgia, and open font files.
    3. Set size, weight, style, spacing and colours; switch to List or Waterfall to compare differently.
    4. Pin the fonts you like (the pin button on each card). Pinned fonts move to the top in the order you pinned them.
    5. Choose a fallback and copy the font-family stack, or copy the CSS of a single card.

    Examples

    A stack for body text
    Input
    Pinned: Inter, then Georgia · Fallback: sans-serif
    Result
    font-family: "Inter", "Georgia", sans-serif;

    Visitors without Inter loaded see Georgia, then the system sans-serif.

    Spotting a fake bold
    Input
    Weight 700 with a Regular-only font file
    Result
    Not native: it has no weight 700; the browser thickens 400 to fake bold.
    One card’s CSS
    Input
    Montserrat, 24px, weight 600, letter spacing 0.02em, line height 1.4
    Result
    font-family: "Montserrat", sans-serif;
    font-size: 24px;
    font-weight: 600;
    letter-spacing: 0.02em;
    line-height: 1.4;

    Common uses

    • Choosing a font for a logo, a website or a presentation by seeing the real words in each candidate.
    • Checking which of your installed fonts support accents, symbols or Devanagari.
    • Comparing a font a designer sent you with the fonts you already have.
    • Building a font-family stack with sensible fallbacks.

    Installed fonts and privacy

    Web pages cannot normally see which fonts you have. Chrome and Edge offer the Local Font Access API, which lists them after you allow it; the list stays on this page and is not sent anywhere. In Firefox and Safari, type the names instead — the tool measures the text to tell whether the font was found. Safari only lets pages use the fonts that come with macOS or iOS, so fonts you installed yourself show as not found there.

    Weights, italics and faked styles

    When a font has no file for the weight or style you ask for, browsers follow the CSS font-matching rules (CSS Fonts Module Level 4): a nearby weight is used, and bold or italic may be synthesised by thickening or slanting the letters, which looks worse than a real bold or italic. Each card says when that happens for library fonts and font files; for installed fonts typed by name the browser does not tell.

    Using the fonts on your site

    A font-family stack only names fonts; the visitor’s device must have them or your site must load them. The library fonts are under the SIL Open Font License and can be self-hosted (for example with the Fontsource packages of the same name). For fonts you bought or that came with your computer, check the licence before using them on the web — desktop licences often do not allow it.

    Limitations

    • Listing installed fonts needs Chrome or Edge on a computer; other browsers need the names typed.
    • Font files and the installed-font list are kept only while the page is open; pinned library and installed fonts are remembered on this device.
    • Colour fonts and variable-font axes other than weight are shown with their default settings; open a file in the Font Viewer to explore its axes and features.
    • Without a connection, library fonts your browser has not loaded from this site before are drawn in a fallback font.

    Privacy

    Everything happens in your browser. What you enter or open here is not uploaded or stored by MySmartCoPilot.

    Frequently asked questions

    Are my font files uploaded?

    No. They are read in your browser and used from memory with the FontFace API. The page works offline once loaded.

    Why does a font I typed say “Not found here”?

    The browser drew the text in a fallback font, so the font is not installed under that name, or the browser hides it (Safari shows only its built-in fonts). Check the exact family name, for example “Segoe UI” rather than “SegoeUI”.

    What is a waterfall?

    The same text at a row of sizes (12 to 80px here), so you can see how a font reads small as body text and large as a headline.

    Can I see a font’s glyphs, licence or OpenType features?

    Open the file in the Font Viewer, which shows every glyph, the licence and embedding permissions, the features and the variable axes.
