About the Floor Plan Maker (2D)
Draw a 2D floor plan of a flat, a house or an office in the browser. Drag out rectangular rooms or click the corners of any shape — an L-shaped living room, a bay window, a sloping wall — and the tool draws the walls round them, mitred at the corners, with the inside size of every side and the floor area of every room written on the plan. Add doors (with their swing), windows, open passages, free-standing walls and labels, and read the room list with the total area in m² and ft².
Everything snaps: to the grid, to the corners and walls of other rooms, and — when you drop one room next to another — one wall thickness away, so the two rooms share a single wall and a door between them cuts through it. Work in metres or in feet and inches, undo any step, and save the plan as a to-scale PDF on A4 or US Letter, a PNG picture, an SVG drawing or a room list in CSV. Plans are kept in this browser; nothing you draw is uploaded.
How to use it
- Pick Room in the toolbar and drag from one corner of a room to the opposite corner — or click once for a room of the default size. For other shapes, pick Shape and click each corner in turn, then click the first corner again (or press Enter).
- Drag a room to move it. Drop it next to another room and it snaps one wall thickness away, so they share the wall. Drag the round handles to move corners and the square ones to push or pull a side.
- Pick Door, Window or Passage and click on a wall to put one there; drag it along the wall afterwards. Under Selected, set its width, its distance from the corner, the side its hinges are on and which way it opens.
- Select a room to rename it, type its exact width and depth, choose a floor colour, and set the wall thickness of each side (0 for no wall, such as an open-plan edge).
- Add free-standing walls with Wall and notes such as “Balcony” or “Up” with Label.
- Use Export for a PDF at a true scale (print it at 100 %), a PNG, an SVG or the room list; save a backup file to move the plan to another device.
Examples
L-shaped living room 23.75 m² · kitchen 2.4 × 2.4 m = 5.76 m² · bedroom 3.5 × 3.2 m = 11.2 m² · bathroom 3.5 × 1.7 m = 5.95 m² → 46.66 m² (502.2 ft²) of floor, 3 doors, 5 windows and an open passage
A 4 × 3 m room, and a second room dragged next to it with 100 mm walls
The second room snaps 100 mm away: its wall and the first room’s wall are the same wall, drawn once. A door placed on it opens through both.

How areas and sizes are measured
A room’s outline is the inside face of its walls, so the side lengths and areas are the net (carpet) sizes you would measure with a tape inside the room. The area of any straight-sided shape is worked out with the shoelace formula, A = ½ |Σ (xᵢ yᵢ₊₁ − xᵢ₊₁ yᵢ)|: for an L-shaped room 6 m by 5 m with a 2.5 × 2.5 m corner taken out, 30 − 6.25 = 23.75 m². The total is the sum of the rooms; walls are not included (a built-up or gross area also counts the walls). The overall sizes drawn above and beside the plan run to the outside faces of the outer walls.
If two rooms overlap, the room list says so, because their total would count that floor twice.
Walls, doors and windows
- Each side of a room has its own wall thickness — for example 230 mm for brick outer walls and 100 mm for partitions, or 6 in and 4½ in. New rooms get the thickness set under This plan.
- Walls are drawn outside the room’s outline and mitred where they meet, so a room’s outline stays its inside size.
- A door is drawn open at 90° with its swing; a window as a frame with glass across the wall; an open passage as a gap. An opening cuts every wall drawn in that place, so a door between two rooms that share a wall goes through it.
- Free-standing walls are centred on the line you draw.
Exports and printing
- PDF: one A4 or US Letter page, landscape or portrait, at the largest standard scale that fits, with the scale and a scale bar: 1:20, 1:25, 1:50, 1:100, 1:200 … for a metric plan; for a plan in feet and inches an architect’s scale such as 1/4″ = 1′-0″ (1:48) or 1/8″ = 1′-0″ (1:96), which an architect’s scale rule reads directly. Print at 100 % (“actual size”) to keep the scale; “fit to page” changes it. The page is a 200 dpi image of the drawing.
- PNG: a 200 dpi picture of the drawing on white, sized to stay within 4000 pixels.
- SVG: a vector drawing you can open in a design program or a browser.
- Room list: a CSV with each room’s width, depth, area in m² and ft² and its doors and windows, or the same list copied as text.
Saving your plans
Plans are saved automatically in this browser — up to 20 of them, listed under Saved plans. Nothing is sent to a server, and you don’t need an account. Clearing the browser’s site data or using another browser or device starts afresh, so use Save a backup in the Export menu to keep a copy; Open a backup reads it back here.
Limitations
- One floor per plan, drawn from straight lines: curved walls, stairs, furniture and fixtures are not drawn (use a label for them).
- Areas are the inside floor areas of the outlines you draw; wall areas, built-up areas and volumes are not worked out.
- The PDF page is an image of the drawing (200 dpi): its text cannot be selected or edited in a PDF editor.
- It makes sketch plans for planning and discussion, not construction drawings: it has no structural, electrical or plumbing layers, and does not check building rules.

Frequently asked questions
How do I draw an L-shaped room?
Pick Shape and click its six corners in order, then click the first corner again. Or draw a rectangle, select it and use Add corner on a side, then drag the new corner’s handle into place.
How is the floor area worked out?
From the inside outline of each room with the shoelace formula, which works for any straight-sided shape; the total adds up the rooms. Sizes are inside sizes, so the area is the net (carpet) area. The room list shows both m² and ft².
How do two rooms share a wall?
Drag one room towards the other: it snaps so that the gap between them is one wall thickness, and the two walls become one. A door or passage placed on that wall opens through it.
Can I print the plan to scale?
Yes. Export → PDF puts the plan on one A4 or US Letter page at a standard scale — such as 1:50 or 1:100, or 1/4″ = 1′-0″ for a plan in feet and inches — with a scale bar. Print it at 100 % (actual size) and you can measure it with a ruler or a scale rule.
Can I use feet and inches?
Yes — choose US (ft, in) under This plan. Type sizes such as 12' 6" or 12.5; small sizes such as wall thickness are in inches. The room list always shows both ft² and m².
Is my plan uploaded anywhere?
No. Drawing, saving and exporting all happen in your browser; the plans are stored only in this browser. Save a backup file to keep a copy elsewhere.
Can I use it with a keyboard or a touch screen?
Yes. On a touch screen, drag with one finger and pinch to zoom. With a keyboard, add rooms, walls and labels from the panel, choose any item under Go to an item, type exact sizes and positions, and use the arrow keys to move the selection; the shortcuts are listed under Keyboard and mouse.
