Compare two offers
Different shops, different prices? Enter each offer’s price and up to two discounts.
Results are estimates for general information and planning, not financial advice. Banks and institutions may calculate differently (rounding, fees, rate changes). Confirm figures with your lender or a qualified adviser before deciding.
About the Discount Calculator
Enter a price and a discount — as a percentage or a flat amount — to see the final price and exactly how much you save. Add more discounts to see what stacked offers are really worth: 20% off followed by an extra 10% off is a 28% discount, not 30%, because the second discount is taken from the already-reduced price.
You can also cap a percentage discount ("10% off up to ₹1,500", common with bank-card offers), add GST to the discounted price, work backwards from a sale price, and compare two offers side by side.
How to use it
- Enter the original price — the MRP or list price.
- Enter the discount and choose % off or ₹ off. For an offer with a limit, fill in Up to ₹.
- Use Add another discount for a coupon or bank offer applied on top. Discounts are applied in the order shown.
- Turn on GST if tax is added after the discount, or to see how much GST is inside a GST-inclusive price.
- Further down, find the discount percentage from two prices, the price before a discount, or compare two offers.
Examples
Final price ₹1,999.20 · You save ₹499.80
Final price ₹720 · Effective discount 28% (not 30%)
Discount capped at ₹1,500 · Final price ₹18,500 · Effective discount 7.5%
Discounted price ₹720 + GST ₹129.60 = ₹849.60 (instead of ₹1,180)
Common uses
- Checking what a sale price really is before you buy.
- Working out stacked offers: store discount + coupon + bank-card offer.
- Comparing a percentage discount at one shop with a flat discount at another.
- Quoting a discounted price to a customer with GST added.
How stacked discounts work
Successive discounts multiply rather than add. For discounts d₁, d₂ … (as decimals), the effective discount is 1 − (1 − d₁) × (1 − d₂) × …
- 20% + 10% → 1 − 0.8 × 0.9 = 0.28 → 28%
- 50% + 50% → 1 − 0.5 × 0.5 = 0.75 → 75%, not 100%
- 10% + 10% + 10% → 27.1%
The order of percentage discounts does not change the result. With a flat ₹ discount the order matters: on ₹1,000, ₹100 off and then 20% off gives ₹720, but 20% off and then ₹100 off gives ₹700.
GST and discounts
Under section 15(3)(a) of the CGST Act, 2017, a discount given before or at the time of sale and recorded on the invoice is not part of the value of the supply, so GST is charged on the discounted price (CGST Act, CBIC). For prices quoted before GST, the calculator adds GST after the discount.
Printed MRPs in India include all taxes. For those, choose Price includes GST to see how much of what you pay is GST. The main GST rates are 5%, 18% and 40%, with 0.25%, 1.5% and 3% for diamonds, precious stones, gold, silver and jewellery — see the GST calculator for what each covers.
"Buy 1 get 1 free" and similar offers
Buy 1 get 1 free works out to 50% off each item — but only if you wanted two. Buy 2 get 1 free is 33.33% off each of the three items, because you pay for two out of three. In general, buy X get Y free is a discount of Y ÷ (X + Y).
Limitations
- Amounts are rounded to the paisa at each step; a shop’s billing system may round a few paise differently.
- Cashback credited later is treated like an instant discount; real cashback offers often have conditions and arrive after the purchase.
- GST is calculated at one rate for the whole price. For bills with items at different rates, use the line items in the GST calculator.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a discount?
Multiply the price by the discount percentage and divide by 100 to get the saving, then subtract it from the price. 20% off ₹2,499: ₹2,499 × 20 ÷ 100 = ₹499.80, so you pay ₹1,999.20.
Is 20% + 10% off the same as 30% off?
No. The extra 10% is taken off the price that is left after the first 20%, so the total discount is 28%. On ₹1,000 you pay ₹720, not ₹700.
How do I find what percentage off a sale price is?
Divide the saving by the original price and multiply by 100. ₹2,999 reduced to ₹1,999 is ₹1,000 ÷ ₹2,999 × 100 = 33.34% off.
Is GST charged before or after a discount?
For a discount shown on the invoice at the time of sale, GST is charged on the price after the discount (section 15(3) of the CGST Act, 2017). Discounts given after the sale can also reduce the taxable value, but only under the conditions in the same section.
What does "10% off up to ₹1,500" mean?
The discount is 10% of the price but never more than ₹1,500. On ₹10,000 you save ₹1,000; on ₹20,000 the saving stops at ₹1,500, which is an effective 7.5%.
